You kinda have to grind to complete the game from what I remember. I haven't played the OG BN in like a decade but from what I remember I had a good time.
It just suffers from First Game Syndrome and the sequels ('cept 4) are better. Though having replayed with the Collection I can at least say it's not as bad as I remembered and it even has some neat little things the later games don't have.
If you've played first gen Pokemon games, same thing. Although personally I'd say start with 1 anyway. It's an introduction to everything and you can move on to 2 if you're finding it that lacking. Going back after the others would be rough.
play 2 then 3 first
then 6
after that make a decision if you really want to play 5
if you got this far then you might as well play 4 and 1 because theyre by far the weakest
Battle Network 1 is under 10 hours long and its the only BN game that doesn't make you do tedious backtracking. I'd say its worth a shot even though the combat is slower. I'd rather play 1 than 4 any day
unironically one of the best RPGs out there. the first game sucks because it's so experimental and has to deal with the baggage that comes with being unrefined in its purest state.
genuinely, fuck this boss. even bubblewoman trapped in a man's body without electric chips is more bearable. to get desertman v4 i had to keep battling until i got plantman v4 first turn and the chips for bodyguard next turn
>playing BN6 >trying to get Area Steal * chips >didn't know that the Legacy Collection version port is based in Japanese BN6 which doesn't have Area Steal * in the Aster Land chip trader pool and that it can only be found in the Super Chip Traders until after I dumped all my excess chips
god fucking damnit you can't EVEN BUY IT RRRREEEEEEEEEEEEE
You get the special event chips and e-Reader card functionality that you would otherwise have to hack in. They restored the stuff that was cut from the English version of BN6.
I've already moved on to the SF series. I'm currently at SF3 post game and now I can see why people shilled this game so much, SF3 post game is just insane it might be on par with BN3 or even better
People keep saying Black Ace is a better version and I can see why, Black Ace's abilities and mobility are definitely far more useful for multiplayer and Gemini Noise has meta stunlock for easy S rank but I'm a simple man, I want raw powers and Red Joker satisfied me that. Rouge Noise is overrated, Wolf Noise is the best
worth getting into
It's good, the first game is pretty rough though.
Just do yourself a favor and skip the first game completely. No one will fault you for starting at the third game
why it not liked

If you want to start with 1...Then just play the DS version
It's the weakest entry, but it's not bad, I'd still play it, just do yourself a favor and do not try to 100% it, you'll want to have a nice day.

Worth it for the writing.
1 is clunky
2 and 3 are god tier
4 is shit
5 is okay
6 is back to 2/3 levels of good
They're fun
Pretty fun. Just don’t cheese everything with a guide. People shit on 1 but after playing it you’ll appreciate 2 and 3 so much more.
It's like 50% great and 50% shit
It's fucking shit play a real MegaMan like MMZ3
3 > 2 = 6 > 5 >> 4 >>> 1
Series as a whole is great. Even the worst entries are pretty good games.
my wife
It’s definitely a Mega Man series.

Don't you have to grind chips to fill out the library midway through the game? Most of which require you to trounce the net which all looks the same?
From the little I played, the battle system is really great. Going back to this series has been my longest backlog item

Absolutely GOATed in terms of GBA games.
Each battle is a puzzle. And then you solve the same damn puzzle every 3 steps over and over and over...
worth it for Lan

Pretty cool if you love card games and have autism.
Yeah, when it's good it's better than sex. Star Force is worth checking out too if you like it.
The collection offer anything that just emulating doesn't?
achievements
So no?

JACK IN
Very nice and unlike any other vidya due to the gimmicky battle system.
it'd really mean a lot to me if (You) took a moment to admire these complete and utter badasses
