When I went back to world for a bit while waiting for SB TU1, I noticed the Barnos in Elders recess were actively coded to start harrassing you when you are fighting a monster in the area. Those frickers are relentless and can give you defense down, copped a cart more than once because one spat at me at the wrong time, and had openings ruined many times.

It's based on the position of your hunter and has nothing to do with which direction you're aiming. The back 50% is valid at least and some people were saying it's even more.
From my limited testing it works on like a 25% of monster's rear part of the hitbox

At least for Monster Hunter Rise the FPS barely makes a difference because of the way animations work and also the game's native motion blur.
You can but the game still has a native motion blur... I don't know how to explain... It just looks off, there's this grainy blurry filter thatn CAN'T be turned off...

Do you mean Dereliction + Bloodrite? I tried that out with a pierce gunning set and it didn't work very well at all because Bloodrite has a brief cooldown on it, meaning that even if you're doing tons of DPS you only heal off of the first hit each time you shoot which is basically nothing.

I honestly thought gunlance was getting too slow to keep up with endgame until I stopped ignoring reverse blast dash. Like most morons I thought it was just blast dash but backwards but never considered the super armor, the synergy with hellfire cloak, the extra damage and KO from using yourself as a human missile and the zero wind up time. It just goes to show the best switch skills are the unassuming ones instead of the big moronic super moves.

I personally think it's cool because it has neat potential but I've yet to get anything more interesting than maybe 1 or 2 extra slots/slot levels at best.
I think the one biggest issue with it though is that your whole motivation to do it is to get god gear, but if you actually work your way towards getting an amazing set everyone will just think you cheated it in.
Is it just me or do monsters run away a lot less? All the fights I've done the monster has moved maybe one before death where before the update missed seemed to switch zones 3 or 4 times a hunt.

As someone who dabbles a bit in Bowguns, it honestly depends on the Ammo and Weapon type. Playing Spread on LBG or HBG without Shield is a bit more engaging since you have a chance of getting hit and you can jump around while unloading a shotgun with Silkbinds. Pierce HBG in Solo is fun too since it turns the game into an arcade shooter where you can slide for cover, but it's pretty braindead in MP. Pierce LBG is basically Cookie Clicker but with Monsters and I don't understand why anyone plays it besides to cheese. Same with Shield HBG.
Just joined a hunt where the host was a bow user but was just playing the weapon as a hbg. Funny as shit watching him get charged down by Barroth the entire hunt.
I 100% play MonHun while listening to podcasts. Started with World, only nee monsters or fights like Alatreon / Fatalis have been hard enough to require my full attention

Anything you can get Guard 3-5 and Offensive Guard 3 on otherwise. Mixing a bunch of the Elgado knights sets, Guild Palace, Bazel gloves, etc or just anything with a lot of slots and the damage skills you want. Offensive Guard is definitely the biggest pain to fit in.
If I make Rathalos armor and use a layered set to make it look like something else and then also use Qurio crafting to change the skills, slots, defense and resistances am I even really wearing Rathalos armor anymore?
the important thing here is that you willingly hunted rathalos to wear that armor and are therefore a lesser being regardless of what has become of its base.

Even after a day my gear is at a point where any potential upgrades would be a minute incremental increase considering how restrictive the system actually is.
Sanity checks don't 100% lineup with what's actually rollable, like hoe you can cheat in a 4-1-1 slot charm and the game won't delete it

People are severely overestimating this augment system and only speedtrannies care about it anyway. I only got a 10% dps increase which would make a speedrun go from 60 to 50 seconds and cause massive butthurt to speedtrannies but the average person still doesn't give a shit. I get people sending me guild cards almost every hunt.

Blood Rite and just about anything else that's unique to a specific monster's armour isn't possible. Furthermore, rarity 9/10 armour is so point starved that getting stuff like CB/WEX is always going to come at a cost.
Best I've gotten is some random extra points of Guard that freed up a bunch of space

the metal pants I have access to all have a duller texture for metal so it doesn't work, besides the pants are from the same set as the chest and waist so good enough for me, if you look closely you see there's chain mail beneath the fabric

The i frames are pretty small. It's either the same as the base roll or slightly more. This is me talking out of my ass, but it's probably 4 frames at 60 FPS, so you need to treat it with the same amount of precision as dodging something with a base roll

You do have "some" leeway if you frick up since the invincibility on the switch skill dodge is pretty big. There's just a big window between the redirection i frames when swapping and activating the switch dodge
i love using it but its actuvation window takes some getting used too. its pretty narrow but comes out very fast. some weapons prefer redirection a bit more and combos with some skills. for example, shield weapons can spam swaps by holding down their block as it resets the cooldown with the block animation. its not very effective to block something with redirection by spamming swaps, but does allow for another seperate benefit in abusing dango shifter, which allows you to heal with each swap. EE also works with the evade after a swap, so if you flub the timing on your reidrection, you at least still have a chance to evade really fricking far away after the swap.
additionally, some weapons might actually only want a single point of redirection rather than the full 2 points. gunlance and lance are some cause they rather want to eat the redirection damage for the wirebug cooldown benefits without repositioning themselves either.
I strongly dislike using Redirection, but I play guard reload gunlance and would rather reverse blast for evasion in situations I can't just reload block moves.

Speak for yourself. Sunbreak's iteration is the least egregious so far because even if you disregard that there's an option to ignore it entirely, it's usually only going to happen once on the target monster regardless unless your hunts are taking really long. It's a far cry from the bullshit you could pull in 4U with something like 4x Tigerstripe Zamtrios IGs.

Sure, but it annoys me less than than getting an impromptu glorified "turf war" cutscene that loses its wow factor after the first viewing. I think part of the problem is 3 monsters on the map doesn't really work as well as Capcom thinks since it ups the likelihood of interruptions, the third spot really should be only there for invaders.
Does anyone here know if Bladscale Hone activates the various sharpening skills eg. Grinder S, Protective Polish etc? Would test myself but I can’t rn and I’m curious

Ibushi weapons would be the most obvious pick, I'm sure there is at least a couple other weapons that have less than 20 hits of white sharpness but the closer to 20 that number is the more precise you'll have to be
That weapon has the issue of too much purple. It'll take forever to drop to blue and when you sharpen you'll max out purple again. Grinder won't be active enough to justify it over another attack skill.
Does it have to be in one go? It'd still be difficult especially if you're trying to keep up adrenaline rush too and not perfect dodging to get back to blue

It seems like an extremely tight line to walk, and probably wouldn't work in multiplayer
but a set with enough purple to just barely last the duration of adrenaline rush and then top itself back up with a wirestep for a big boost seems like it could be pretty solid
Reminder that traps still work against Afflicted monsters even if you can't capture them. They're still very useful for locking down the monster, especially online.

I think it's interesting that as level increases and monster HP climbs higher and higher, it feels more and more important to hit the red zones. Getting an explosion in multiplayer for ~2.3k feels enormous and has me targeting that zone no matter what. When the explosions were only ~500-750 damage I'd sometimes ignore red shitzones to keep hitting the head.

The changes to HH have attracted special people, but it's not that different from the past where some HH players would stay outside of melee range just to play songs. I don't have expectations for any weapon now except SnS, which for some reason seems to played by a lot of vets.
as an sns player since FU, yeah I rarely see other sns players die. Wish I could say the same for me, but I'm a stubborn frick who refuses to properly let go of older habits and playstyles which just aren't condusive. The new block animaiton sunbreak gave sns is also the worst thing to ever be done to the weapon, ever, worse than Tri's non-wiimote controls [which fricking broke the item-use-while-guarding to be much slower as you had to complete the whole guard animation first], as it really fricks with queueing a guard direction out of something else, it works SOMETIMES I think but for the most part you're stuck doing a slow waddle on the spot to reangle when trying to do it. Basically I'm just bad now but yes most other sns players I encounter are solid
I don't get why people act like you absolutely have to have minmaxed augments and charms. There's no content hard enough to warrant it and limitations are what make set building fun. Trying to fine-tune that line between damage and comfy is the best part

How the shit do I save scum these Qurious armors? I've tried doing it the same way as talismans, I've tried going into Qurious weapon crafting, I've tried crafting lesser/greater tiers than the one I'm on, yet I still get the same pool of results. What am I doing wrong?
Armors are seeded the moment you unlock augmenting for them. You need to stockpile mats, save, unlock, and then pray to god you get a decent augment before you run out of stuff. If you've already saved after unlocking augments, you need to either deal with it or make another piece of that armor.
I've seen Japs on youtube savescumming though. I just can't follow along because the gays speed through the menus and speak some incomprehensible babble.

I can't believe I forgot about no pc cross progression/play. That was honestly the biggest hype killer for me. I'd love to play it on pc instead but if I can't even be assed to play Sunbreak as is there's no way I'll grind through base Rise.
The graphics are downgraded pretty severely. It barely looks better on pc.
It seems you can get literally any skill on any armor piece regardless of rarity. Rarity does come into play though.
Each armor piece has 7 augment slots that each roll randomly whenever you augment, old augments don't affect it and don't build up or whatever. Those 7 rolls combined are what determines the final stats. Rolls are def, res, slots and skills. All can be a gain or a loss, except slots which can only be gained. Skills can potentially gain 1-3 of any skill (each skill point being one of the rolls) but it'll almost never be 3 unless they're utility skills, and 2 skills is still hyper rare in general (assuming one high tier meta damage skill). Below will explain how things are limited.
Each armor piece has a total augment point limit. Rarity determines the base limit. R10s have ~10 points, R9 have ~14. Kamura Legacy R8 has 20.
Beneficial rolls cost augment points, and detrimental rolls give augment points. Higher benefit = higher cost, greater detriment = more points gained.
Amount of def, res, slots, and skills are in tiers of point cost, in multiples of 3, from 3 point cost up to 15 depending on tier. All the meta damage boosting skills cost 15. You can essentially probably guess the skill cost based on how useful the skill is and sometimes based on its slot cost/ economy. Def tiers also get somewhat better as the armor rarity drops. Kamura Legacy highest def on one augment roll is +40 at a cost of 20 points, whereas R10s get about 10 for 10.
Any skill subtraction is a 10 point gain despite skill tier. Any armor can lose one and only one native skill point (2 exceptions: armor with no innate skills, and Narwa/Ib who can't roll skill+- slots).
So having armor with any skill you don't care for or don't mind losing 1 point is something to consider for augmenting. Could also consider armor with nice slots and all/ mostly meh skills.
Frick forgot to mention. There seem to be a lot of empty roll possibilities, which is probably obvious to people who've been augmenting already. Unfortunately can't really speak on percentages but from playing with mods it looked like there were about 150 total values on a single augment dice, 30 of which actually do anything, one for each tier of gain/ loss of def/res/slot/skill. And there's like 125ish skills. So those are your odds.

In a similar vein, how can I maximize the efficacy of the Ninja Sword? It was done dirty in Sunbreak, but I still want to use it purely for fashion's sake.

honest to goodness you get reasonable damage with just attack boost and crit boost, you may as well build comfy skills on top of that. I've got a set with that, guard, guard up, evade extender, speed eater, recovery up. Good times

my fricking brother, same. I have some sweaty sns sets I try once in a while but I have trouble leaving speed eater off a set ever.
My favourite set I ever made though was freedom unite, in g rank I had black gravios for everything except a rathalos chest piece, and the colours somehow worked too so I looked like a bulky rathalos megaman-proportioned thing. The set gave me:
Defense +40
Health +50
Element atk UP
simple, clean, extremely cozy for that game. God I miss how good element felt in FU, the huge boss-like monsters and siege fights always had ridiculously good elemental hitzones so it could make soloing them a cinch
Dereliction and Mail of Hellfire are actually completely manageable, especially if you only go to one or two levels of MoH. Not only that, but Dereliction constantly activates Resentment on top of it's innate huge Raw/KO boost and when paired with Bloodrite you can just heal back all HP drain for the last 2/3rd's of the fight.
If their armour pieces have skills you want, definitely don't be afraid to use them.
Bloodlust too is not hard to upkeep even with Dereliction, but half the time you'll have the Affinity boost which is obviously pointless for 100% affinity. I would avoid anyway.
Other things to look out for, >Coalescence since abnormal status effects are common and ignorable >Sneak Attack since apparently it's good >Agitator

This is a damn good idea. I've got a talisman with maxed Bubbly Dance built in, among other things. I use it along with Quick Breath for fast and easy heals. Coalescence will fit right into this.

Your net health OVER TIME doesn't go down as fast while the fish is active. It doesn't prevent the health drain, but it does counteract it to a degree.
It's mainly there to cancel DoTs; fire, poison, venom, etc. The extra healing is just a welcome side effect.

I had coalescence 3 and quick breathe gemmed into my bloodlust set dereliction set and that was fun, get poisoned or on fire and it’s basically a free heal that also lowers the frenzy gauge

You don't have to, infact I have never even taken a fish out of my item box, like I said Bloodrite will counter it's effects for the majority of the fight and before then you can simply instantly drink a potion when it gets a bit dicey because you're SnS. >focus on head at the start >probably get knock down and break early >now the Monster's biggest weakpoint (usually) is a free potion when you need it >can focus on breaking other parts >in the event of an emergency you can just drink a potion like always, otherwise you just get massive raw boost

If you wanted to be a true mad lad, I just realized that Quick Breath paired with Bubbly Dance actually lets you stay permanently Frenzied if you are liberal with the Scroll changes.
Although I guess the HP drain builds require you to be confident that you can avoid pretty much all attacks somewhat consistently.

yeah slot gains are from 1-4 (maybe 3) but the points are distributed in assume particular way i forget, if I'm not mistaken they distribute 1 point at a time and target the lowest slot first. So you'll open any empty slots into level 1s before other slots are targeted. And if you've got 3 level 1s (1-1-1) and get slot+3, you don't get 4-1-1 or 3-2-1 but 2-2-2.
The Lucent narga SA is p good for raw, with its slots you can put in a free sub skill like PP, then augment its rampage slot to 2 for whatever type monster you're hunting. Scorned is good too.
Will also try that. Might try some Gold rathian pieces too and see how spicy I can get the poison procs. Could make a Foray mix set with some Lucent Nargacuga pieces too for adrenaline rush.
Does an A1 monster give prime essence if you level it enough or is it just you get more of the low level? Also does the essence you add matter the game made it sound like it did

Not anon, but with how many drop chances you get each hunt you eventually just get a stockpile even if you never specifically farm. I have like 14 Large Beast Gems, 8 Large Elder Dragons, 6 of each Magnamalo rare drop, like 1-4 of most rare drops and I've spent a bunch fo all of these too.

In what sense? They'll still kill every monster easily. Armour Augments are for refining your existing sets, not building from the ground up. That's reserved for genuine no life autists and cheaters who'll skip it entirely with a half assed justification no one asked for.
It's easy to get CE4 and AB7. Sets with Bloodlust, MoH, and Coal will easily reach 100 affinity.
So I would personally aim for attack boost to lower your need for the israeliteels and maxing out coal since bloodlust and mail apparently can't be rolled on pieces (so they say).
Different max amounts of shit depending on the rarity of the piece, def/resistance ups count too.
Rarity 8 armor = 20 points
Rarity 9 armor = 15 points
Rarity 10 armor = 10 points
Anything negative on the armor can add to your POTENTIAL point total but you can still get a garbage roll overall and lose two skills and not gain 40 points worth of shit.
Is that the points they have to "spend" so to speak. So for example, does this mean Rarity 10 Equipment can only ever roll things that cost less than 10 (assuming no negatives like losing a skill)?

It's not that hard bro, just go down the set pages and mark each piece that shows up multiple times. You can make it even easier and just check one weapon at a time. After a few hours your shit will be sorted if you really wanna minmax that hard.
Just roll them until they get extra deco slots or upgrade existing ones. That way you don't have to bother aiming for a specific thing and then just change up your equips with the armor set searcher. That's what I've done for my 14 weapons + multiple element sets
With the nature of RNG, pretty much just take what you can get, though I guess you could save-scum if you want to. All I've done is a couple of augments for most of my overlapping pieces (Rath Coil, Archfiend set, Kaiser Crown / Arms, Goldian Arms, Ingot Greaves, Malzeno head / waist I think were the most common for me), usually to get them a 1 slot or a 2 into a 3 slot upgrade. and now I'm in the process of getting more decos with Rath mats before I go back to try and get more augments. Usually I find upgrading 3s to 4s were actually the most bang for my buck because of the new decos but I'd say getting a 1 slot to a 2 slot is equally as good. 3 slots are also nice for Hard Element decos and Ironwall+

It's just that Small Monster agression was dramatically toned down in general, Bnahabra and Bullfango are pretty much the only things that will have a go at you, and not very often.
When I went back to world for a bit while waiting for SB TU1, I noticed the Barnos in Elders recess were actively coded to start harrassing you when you are fighting a monster in the area. Those frickers are relentless and can give you defense down, copped a cart more than once because one spat at me at the wrong time, and had openings ruined many times.

From my limited testing it works on like a 25% of monster's rear part of the hitbox

It's based on the position of your hunter and has nothing to do with which direction you're aiming. The back 50% is valid at least and some people were saying it's even more.
I think it might be the direction in which you attack. I was testing it with my spread LBG last night and I was attacking Bagel's head but from basically 'behind' him and I was getting the boost. Same with Steve's legs.
It's hard to do with blademaster obviously and it might have different criteria for it, but it might actually work the same way. Would definitely be easier for Gunlance.

Its strong but the health drain is an extra headache I'd rather not bother with unless I'm just cheesing a fight with the full morb mode setup on a gun
If you can do the usual max AB/CE/CB/WEX, it's basically just slightly better than that with the caveat you also run Resentment.
Horn is probably the only weapon that can feasibly use it without worrying about dying. Even heal (s) works well since it offsets the drain.
IG can self heal with recall kinsect that’s what I do

Do you mean Dereliction + Bloodrite? I tried that out with a pierce gunning set and it didn't work very well at all because Bloodrite has a brief cooldown on it, meaning that even if you're doing tons of DPS you only heal off of the first hit each time you shoot which is basically nothing.

I honestly thought gunlance was getting too slow to keep up with endgame until I stopped ignoring reverse blast dash. Like most morons I thought it was just blast dash but backwards but never considered the super armor, the synergy with hellfire cloak, the extra damage and KO from using yourself as a human missile and the zero wind up time. It just goes to show the best switch skills are the unassuming ones instead of the big moronic super moves.

I personally think it's cool because it has neat potential but I've yet to get anything more interesting than maybe 1 or 2 extra slots/slot levels at best.
I think the one biggest issue with it though is that your whole motivation to do it is to get god gear, but if you actually work your way towards getting an amazing set everyone will just think you cheated it in.
Is it just me or do monsters run away a lot less? All the fights I've done the monster has moved maybe one before death where before the update missed seemed to switch zones 3 or 4 times a hunt.

As someone who dabbles a bit in Bowguns, it honestly depends on the Ammo and Weapon type. Playing Spread on LBG or HBG without Shield is a bit more engaging since you have a chance of getting hit and you can jump around while unloading a shotgun with Silkbinds. Pierce HBG in Solo is fun too since it turns the game into an arcade shooter where you can slide for cover, but it's pretty braindead in MP. Pierce LBG is basically Cookie Clicker but with Monsters and I don't understand why anyone plays it besides to cheese. Same with Shield HBG.

Anything you can get Guard 3-5 and Offensive Guard 3 on otherwise. Mixing a bunch of the Elgado knights sets, Guild Palace, Bazel gloves, etc or just anything with a lot of slots and the damage skills you want. Offensive Guard is definitely the biggest pain to fit in.
If I make Rathalos armor and use a layered set to make it look like something else and then also use Qurio crafting to change the skills, slots, defense and resistances am I even really wearing Rathalos armor anymore?
the important thing here is that you willingly hunted rathalos to wear that armor and are therefore a lesser being regardless of what has become of its base.

People are severely overestimating this augment system and only speedtrannies care about it anyway. I only got a 10% dps increase which would make a speedrun go from 60 to 50 seconds and cause massive butthurt to speedtrannies but the average person still doesn't give a shit. I get people sending me guild cards almost every hunt.
My issue with it is you get absolutely jack shit 99% of the time and you have no way of controlling it.

Blood Rite and just about anything else that's unique to a specific monster's armour isn't possible. Furthermore, rarity 9/10 armour is so point starved that getting stuff like CB/WEX is always going to come at a cost.

The i frames are pretty small. It's either the same as the base roll or slightly more. This is me talking out of my ass, but it's probably 4 frames at 60 FPS, so you need to treat it with the same amount of precision as dodging something with a base roll

You do have "some" leeway if you frick up since the invincibility on the switch skill dodge is pretty big. There's just a big window between the redirection i frames when swapping and activating the switch dodge
i love using it but its actuvation window takes some getting used too. its pretty narrow but comes out very fast. some weapons prefer redirection a bit more and combos with some skills. for example, shield weapons can spam swaps by holding down their block as it resets the cooldown with the block animation. its not very effective to block something with redirection by spamming swaps, but does allow for another seperate benefit in abusing dango shifter, which allows you to heal with each swap. EE also works with the evade after a swap, so if you flub the timing on your reidrection, you at least still have a chance to evade really fricking far away after the swap.
additionally, some weapons might actually only want a single point of redirection rather than the full 2 points. gunlance and lance are some cause they rather want to eat the redirection damage for the wirebug cooldown benefits without repositioning themselves either.
I strongly dislike using Redirection, but I play guard reload gunlance and would rather reverse blast for evasion in situations I can't just reload block moves.
Huh? It basically just increases the chance for the monster to target you. Nice on Lance, LS, Hammer, or GS in multi so the monster becomes more predictable towards you, otherwise kinda whatever

Sunbreak's iteration is the least egregious so far because even if you disregard that there's an option to ignore it entirely, it's usually only going to happen once on the target monster regardless unless your hunts are taking really long. It's a far cry from the bullshit you could pull in 4U with something like 4x Tigerstripe Zamtrios IGs.

Sure, but it annoys me less than than getting an impromptu glorified "turf war" cutscene that loses its wow factor after the first viewing. I think part of the problem is 3 monsters on the map doesn't really work as well as Capcom thinks since it ups the likelihood of interruptions, the third spot really should be only there for invaders.

Ibushi weapons would be the most obvious pick, I'm sure there is at least a couple other weapons that have less than 20 hits of white sharpness but the closer to 20 that number is the more precise you'll have to be
That weapon has the issue of too much purple. It'll take forever to drop to blue and when you sharpen you'll max out purple again. Grinder won't be active enough to justify it over another attack skill.

It's only level 1, wait until TU3 or so for +15% affinity. For now raw, sharpness, and rampage slot are the best upgrades.

I think it's interesting that as level increases and monster HP climbs higher and higher, it feels more and more important to hit the red zones. Getting an explosion in multiplayer for ~2.3k feels enormous and has me targeting that zone no matter what. When the explosions were only ~500-750 damage I'd sometimes ignore red shitzones to keep hitting the head.
Yeah, it also makes other percentage based damage more impactful too. Those geysers in Lava Caverns hit fricking HARD at 80+.

The changes to HH have attracted special people, but it's not that different from the past where some HH players would stay outside of melee range just to play songs. I don't have expectations for any weapon now except SnS, which for some reason seems to played by a lot of vets.
as an sns player since FU, yeah I rarely see other sns players die. Wish I could say the same for me, but I'm a stubborn frick who refuses to properly let go of older habits and playstyles which just aren't condusive. The new block animaiton sunbreak gave sns is also the worst thing to ever be done to the weapon, ever, worse than Tri's non-wiimote controls [which fricking broke the item-use-while-guarding to be much slower as you had to complete the whole guard animation first], as it really fricks with queueing a guard direction out of something else, it works SOMETIMES I think but for the most part you're stuck doing a slow waddle on the spot to reangle when trying to do it. Basically I'm just bad now but yes most other sns players I encounter are solid

I don't get why people act like you absolutely have to have minmaxed augments and charms. There's no content hard enough to warrant it and limitations are what make set building fun. Trying to fine-tune that line between damage and comfy is the best part

Yep. Good luck actually hitting it though. Also, it only comes off in phase 2. You can get it down to 1HP before being cut in phase 1, but it'll stop at that.
It's really easy to cut his tail off in my experience. It seems to have a very low threshold for cutting compared to most other monsters.

How the shit do I save scum these Qurious armors? I've tried doing it the same way as talismans, I've tried going into Qurious weapon crafting, I've tried crafting lesser/greater tiers than the one I'm on, yet I still get the same pool of results. What am I doing wrong?
Armors are seeded the moment you unlock augmenting for them. You need to stockpile mats, save, unlock, and then pray to god you get a decent augment before you run out of stuff. If you've already saved after unlocking augments, you need to either deal with it or make another piece of that armor.
I've seen Japs on youtube savescumming though. I just can't follow along because the gays speed through the menus and speak some incomprehensible babble.

there's some weird rng manipulation you have to do with opening and closing the weapon augment menu, there are steps floating around on how to do it
Actually even easier than Charms and you don't even need to use even a tiny bit of resources to for it to reset, but like charms it will still take you time to get the "godly" armor.

Yes that's the whole point. The backstab detection is also fairly generous so it's probably at least a 10% total damage increase during hunts
Yes. Lucent Narga's Sneak Attack works on Shelling and increases it by 20% at Lv. 3. IIRC that's almost as big of a jump from Shelling 7 to Shelling 8

It seems you can get literally any skill on any armor piece regardless of rarity. Rarity does come into play though.
Each armor piece has 7 augment slots that each roll randomly whenever you augment, old augments don't affect it and don't build up or whatever. Those 7 rolls combined are what determines the final stats. Rolls are def, res, slots and skills. All can be a gain or a loss, except slots which can only be gained. Skills can potentially gain 1-3 of any skill (each skill point being one of the rolls) but it'll almost never be 3 unless they're utility skills, and 2 skills is still hyper rare in general (assuming one high tier meta damage skill). Below will explain how things are limited.
Each armor piece has a total augment point limit. Rarity determines the base limit. R10s have ~10 points, R9 have ~14. Kamura Legacy R8 has 20.
Beneficial rolls cost augment points, and detrimental rolls give augment points. Higher benefit = higher cost, greater detriment = more points gained.
Amount of def, res, slots, and skills are in tiers of point cost, in multiples of 3, from 3 point cost up to 15 depending on tier. All the meta damage boosting skills cost 15. You can essentially probably guess the skill cost based on how useful the skill is and sometimes based on its slot cost/ economy. Def tiers also get somewhat better as the armor rarity drops. Kamura Legacy highest def on one augment roll is +40 at a cost of 20 points, whereas R10s get about 10 for 10.
Any skill subtraction is a 10 point gain despite skill tier. Any armor can lose one and only one native skill point (2 exceptions: armor with no innate skills, and Narwa/Ib who can't roll skill+- slots).
So having armor with any skill you don't care for or don't mind losing 1 point is something to consider for augmenting. Could also consider armor with nice slots and all/ mostly meh skills.
Frick forgot to mention. There seem to be a lot of empty roll possibilities, which is probably obvious to people who've been augmenting already. Unfortunately can't really speak on percentages but from playing with mods it looked like there were about 150 total values on a single augment dice, 30 of which actually do anything, one for each tier of gain/ loss of def/res/slot/skill. And there's like 125ish skills. So those are your odds.

honest to goodness you get reasonable damage with just attack boost and crit boost, you may as well build comfy skills on top of that. I've got a set with that, guard, guard up, evade extender, speed eater, recovery up. Good times

my fricking brother, same. I have some sweaty sns sets I try once in a while but I have trouble leaving speed eater off a set ever.
My favourite set I ever made though was freedom unite, in g rank I had black gravios for everything except a rathalos chest piece, and the colours somehow worked too so I looked like a bulky rathalos megaman-proportioned thing. The set gave me:
Defense +40
Health +50
Element atk UP
simple, clean, extremely cozy for that game. God I miss how good element felt in FU, the huge boss-like monsters and siege fights always had ridiculously good elemental hitzones so it could make soloing them a cinch

Dereliction and Mail of Hellfire are actually completely manageable, especially if you only go to one or two levels of MoH. Not only that, but Dereliction constantly activates Resentment on top of it's innate huge Raw/KO boost and when paired with Bloodrite you can just heal back all HP drain for the last 2/3rd's of the fight.
If their armour pieces have skills you want, definitely don't be afraid to use them.
Bloodlust too is not hard to upkeep even with Dereliction, but half the time you'll have the Affinity boost which is obviously pointless for 100% affinity. I would avoid anyway.
Other things to look out for,
>Coalescence since abnormal status effects are common and ignorable
>Sneak Attack since apparently it's good
>Agitator

This is a damn good idea. I've got a talisman with maxed Bubbly Dance built in, among other things. I use it along with Quick Breath for fast and easy heals. Coalescence will fit right into this.

Your net health OVER TIME doesn't go down as fast while the fish is active. It doesn't prevent the health drain, but it does counteract it to a degree.
i dont bother with quick breath, i just use dango shifter shield cancel spam
It's mainly there to cancel DoTs; fire, poison, venom, etc. The extra healing is just a welcome side effect.
I had coalescence 3 and quick breathe gemmed into my bloodlust set dereliction set and that was fun, get poisoned or on fire and it’s basically a free heal that also lowers the frenzy gauge

You don't have to, infact I have never even taken a fish out of my item box, like I said Bloodrite will counter it's effects for the majority of the fight and before then you can simply instantly drink a potion when it gets a bit dicey because you're SnS.

If you wanted to be a true mad lad, I just realized that Quick Breath paired with Bubbly Dance actually lets you stay permanently Frenzied if you are liberal with the Scroll changes.
Although I guess the HP drain builds require you to be confident that you can avoid pretty much all attacks somewhat consistently.

I've seen lv2 slots become lv3, and empty spots become lv1 slots. Can lv1's become lv2's? I'd assume so but I have yet to see it.
yeah slot gains are from 1-4 (maybe 3) but the points are distributed in assume particular way i forget, if I'm not mistaken they distribute 1 point at a time and target the lowest slot first. So you'll open any empty slots into level 1s before other slots are targeted. And if you've got 3 level 1s (1-1-1) and get slot+3, you don't get 4-1-1 or 3-2-1 but 2-2-2.
So 1-1-1's can turn into 2-2-2's. Holy shit, Kaiser Crown here I come

The Lucent narga SA is p good for raw, with its slots you can put in a free sub skill like PP, then augment its rampage slot to 2 for whatever type monster you're hunting. Scorned is good too.
Will also try that. Might try some Gold rathian pieces too and see how spicy I can get the poison procs. Could make a Foray mix set with some Lucent Nargacuga pieces too for adrenaline rush.

My level 84 A2 Daimyo Hermitaur gives Prime, but my level 84 A1 Izuchi gives Essence+. I'm not sure if Izuchi will upgrade again as I approach 100.

Not anon, but with how many drop chances you get each hunt you eventually just get a stockpile even if you never specifically farm. I have like 14 Large Beast Gems, 8 Large Elder Dragons, 6 of each Magnamalo rare drop, like 1-4 of most rare drops and I've spent a bunch fo all of these too.

In what sense? They'll still kill every monster easily. Armour Augments are for refining your existing sets, not building from the ground up. That's reserved for genuine no life autists and cheaters who'll skip it entirely with a half assed justification no one asked for.

It's easy to get CE4 and AB7. Sets with Bloodlust, MoH, and Coal will easily reach 100 affinity.
So I would personally aim for attack boost to lower your need for the israeliteels and maxing out coal since bloodlust and mail apparently can't be rolled on pieces (so they say).
This is everything that can be rolled apparently
So it seems to me the only real improvements I could make on offense is just more coal, attack and agitator.
How does cost work?
Different max amounts of shit depending on the rarity of the piece, def/resistance ups count too.
Rarity 8 armor = 20 points
Rarity 9 armor = 15 points
Rarity 10 armor = 10 points
Anything negative on the armor can add to your POTENTIAL point total but you can still get a garbage roll overall and lose two skills and not gain 40 points worth of shit.

It's not that hard bro, just go down the set pages and mark each piece that shows up multiple times. You can make it even easier and just check one weapon at a time. After a few hours your shit will be sorted if you really wanna minmax that hard.
Just roll them until they get extra deco slots or upgrade existing ones. That way you don't have to bother aiming for a specific thing and then just change up your equips with the armor set searcher. That's what I've done for my 14 weapons + multiple element sets

With the nature of RNG, pretty much just take what you can get, though I guess you could save-scum if you want to. All I've done is a couple of augments for most of my overlapping pieces (Rath Coil, Archfiend set, Kaiser Crown / Arms, Goldian Arms, Ingot Greaves, Malzeno head / waist I think were the most common for me), usually to get them a 1 slot or a 2 into a 3 slot upgrade. and now I'm in the process of getting more decos with Rath mats before I go back to try and get more augments. Usually I find upgrading 3s to 4s were actually the most bang for my buck because of the new decos but I'd say getting a 1 slot to a 2 slot is equally as good. 3 slots are also nice for Hard Element decos and Ironwall+
