Why do companies want everything to be some kind of esport?
They want a very clean, universal experience so nothing gets in the way of their highly currated experience meant to optimize player engagement, driving player retention up. If you create a varying degree of fun within you game it means some experiences are less fun than others, which is a big no no. Everything needs to be as clean and mediocre as possible.

Gaming communities are universally trash, it's nice to companies finally acknowledging that, even if it's taken decades. Pity it's just words though and not actual moderation because that would cost money

You played the game you wanted to play with the people you wanted to play with for the sake of playing the game.
Having each game be its own "community" is a mistake, just make games and let different communities play it together with who they want to.
I'm disappointed the server browser is gone entirely from BF 2042, which means this problem is just going to get worse, and what little server community there was previously will now be entirely killed off. I don't understand why devs are so allergic to the server browser model
I dont mind that matchmaking exists but there is no reason not to also have some kind of server browser for the community to frick around with.
I think it all has to do with image, with how much games are being streamed if someone was broadcasting their game from a "no no" community's server that would reflect on them. I am tired of this shit.
They even stripped pings out of the beta, so you can't tell if you're connected to a local server, or one thousands of miles away. The dumbing down of gaming continues
