I am completely out of the loop with Games Workshop. Are there any plans of this shit show getting miniatures?

Not from GW, would have to come from Amazon or some partnership they have.

GW signed a televised media deal with Amazon so its not unlikely that they might have some RoP licenses in the contract.

        they didn't sign it yet.

Probably gonna happen, lets be real. Amazon is desperate for 'content' no matter what it is. With Henry backing it up then a lot of excitement is being thrown towards the show without any money being spent on it yet. Honestly GW is trying to milk amazon for as much as they can and Amazon probably isn't happy that GW has as much say in this matter.

hopefully, it was an excellent show if you ignore the writing, acting, special effects and music.

What does that leave? Costumes? Sets? Camera work? Editing?

Costumes were shit too. Sets were okay but the shit camera work and editing made it hard to appreciate.

This is 2023, pal. The only thing you need to derive satisfaction from in a modern show is the knowledge that it's making "the chuds" angry online. Anything else is a bonus.

You can bet your collection gw wants to do it- most normies loved rings of power and releasing a new line will only create more pay pigs.
That said, it's not part of the Tolkien estate, whereas GW has exclusive rights to produce miniatures for said estate. They'd need a contract involving all three parties- gw, Tolkien, and amazon. Unlikely to happen/too expensive, although given the upcoming cavill/40k project there may be more scope and interest for amazon and gw to work together.

A lot of the extras in the both the battle in the epilogue and the battle before the black gates were actual soldiers, both those battles were filmed on land that belongs to the New Zealand Defence Force. Somehow Peter Jackson managed to convince the powers that be here to allow that.

I think some other manufacturer is going to do some shitty boardgame and/or pre-prepainted clix type game for RoP.

Maybe GW should have anticipated new interest in the 2nd Age and people circling back to the Jackson movies though, and did a Last Alliance starter with new plastic Gil-Galad, Sauron, Numenor, and elves. Osgiliath set feels underwhelming, basically the evil half of Pelennor Fields vs Faramir.

GW's rights to make a Tolkien miniature wargame are licensed from what is now called Middle-earth Enterprises, owned by Embracer Group and formerly owned by Saul Zaentz. This bundle of rights, which are basically to LotR and The Hobbit, were sold off cheap by JRR himself in the 60s to United Pictures. The Tolkien Estate ran by his family has no real control over them. This is the same "bundle of rights" used by Warner Brothers and New Line to make the films.

Separately GW must have some license or agreement with New Line to use their designs in miniature form, hence why a lot (not sure if all) of miniatures are ©NLP on the tabs.

Anyway, Amazon's license to use the appendices from LotR (and some Silmarillion stuff on a case-by-case basis) is from the Tolkien Estate directly, and there's a reason they're so byzantine. Basically in JRR's 60s sale, there's an agreement that the LotR/Hobbit film rights holder gets first option if the film rights to any other Tolkien works are up for sale. So the Tolkien Estate has to be very careful with the span of their licences, or they'd have to sell away even more rights to this Middle-earth Enterprises lot.

Didn't actually include my point lel. So GW might have unofficial agreements with the Tolkien Estate but their rights aren't from them anyway. They'd have to get a license there.

It’s still gonna get a second season though. Namely cause they did that thing where they started work on the second season before the first was even out.

It honestly depends how far along they were with season 2 when season 1 came out. If they were like less than halfway done filming then I can see them just cutting their losses, but if they were most of the way done or had some contractual crap in play then they’re likely to drop a total rushjob for season 2 just to recoup some losses

And they're pretty much rebooting the whole thing because it did so badly.

I hope it's good, I want a decent fantasy to watch so I'm not just endlessly watching the LoTR trilogy, Excalibur and Conan.
I don't have high hopes though.

did they even bother explaining the black valyrian? Was he at least from the summer isles, or was it just "these pale inbred people are black now, deal chud"?

              Anonymous

No, the explanation I received from Ganker was that the characters were still white the actors are only black or because driftmark is close to the equator and the summer isles they would be black. This is all retarded for multiple reasons and came down to "deal with it chud!"

I dunno about this but I think GW is going to go hard on the Lord of the Rings shit this year and not RoP crap either.

Lego is releasing Lord of the Rings sets from the movies again this year, Magic the Gathering is releasing a special Lord of the Rings edition card set.

I've noticed a big uptick at my local stores of people playing the LOTR tabletop in the past few month so people might be swapping because it's a bit cheaper than 40k and much easier to play.
