The PS3 remaster has extra dress spheres and a whole fricking roguelike game inside it. This game had the best iteration of ATB in the whole franchise, but FF fans tend to shit on it because they don't want to play as cute girls and act like the story is worse than FFX when in actuality, both stories are shit, but this game doesn't take itself that seriously.

It's like the difference between Kamen Rider and Super Sentai. Both are stupid low budget tokusatsu franchises, but Kamen Rider takes itself 100% serious and Sentai leans into the stupidity for a more fun time.

No, he's 100% wrong. Junctioning is equipping your resources to your stats to raise them. Sphere grid is just leveling up with extra steps. Much like his water theme comparison, it's completely hollow and moronic.

The naming convention in VIII has nothing to do with some overarching narrative theme in the game. You're grasping at straws.

When you said that both games have water/meteorological themes, I assumed you meant something more substantial than "three names are water puns." X has a very obvious theme in that regard, so one would think you meant that they are equal in that respect. Turns out your post was just braindead drivel.

He's right though, and your argument is very poor. A Halloween party isn't comparable to a work of fiction, which is the context in which you used the term "theme". You specifically said FF8 has a water theme, and when asked for details you came up with the names of three characters. That's not a narrative theme, and FF10 is not 'like FF8 but good' as you're trying to argue.

        >Cope. X is great and the game VIII should have been
It's 1997 you turn on the TV, suddenly you see an Ad for the new videogame called Final Fantasy VII.

You think it's the coolest shit you've ever seen, on the next days you see this game everywhere, TV, magazines, even your schoolmates are talking about it.

You ask mom to buy the game for you, you're ready to play it not before thinking ''wow never knew there were 6 games before this uh'' now you turn on your PS1, you're about to witness your first JRPG ever.

Weeks go on and you've finished the game, it's the best gaming experience you ever had.

Now Final Fantasy 8 gets announced and your heart is beating so fast, you want it.

It's 9/9/99 and your mom again gets you the game you boot it up and WTF!?

Where's Cloud? Where's Tifa? Midgar? Gaia?
What happened? You don't get it.

Yep that's FF8, it's a wonderful game but not being FF7-2 was it's biggest sin, that's why FF7 babies despise it.

Any game that came up after FF7 would've been received the same way as FF8 did.

Swap 9 for 8 and you get the same, 10 for 8 and the same and so on.

Squall and Laguna story was released at the wrong place and at wrong time.

Garden's flotation ring had an effect on their physiology. Laguna didn't go to Garden, but got a mega dose of the same effect while he was at what became Lunatic Pandora. Ward actually lost his voice because of Lunatic Pandora stretching his neck too much.

It's a moot point anyway because 10/10-2/12 are worse than 7/8/9. The best RPGs Square made that gen are the Kingdom Hearts games and an MMO. Atlus and Namco were making better traditional RPGs that gen.

The story is just too shit for a full length JRPG. It's fun for a bit until you realize you have zero investment in whatever's happening on screen, then you just turn it off and never play it again. It's not about the fact that it's silly or girly, it's just not interesting as a story

  5. 10 months ago

I love X very much so I can't stomach this slop. All the production values are there but the story is godawful, it's like they went out of their way to shit on everyone that liked X. The combat system is indeed pretty fun but that's about it, the game also has the worst 100% completion quest I've ever seen, to the point I believe no one has ever done it without a guide.

I just want to be 100% sure on this: you can go for 100% story over multiple playthroughs right?
And on a related note is there any difference between loading a post-game save and clicking NG+ on the main menu? I've never tried either for the record, I have to assume there is and that a post-game save just takes you back to the last save point or something.

      Anonymous

      >I just want to be 100% sure on this: you can go for 100% story over multiple playthroughs right?
Yes, you can. Don't try to 100% on a single playthrough, you'll end up tearing your hair out. You're not really going to miss any side content by not getting 100%, but getting it requires talking to seemingly innocuous random characters for extra 0.1% progress who only have a bit of filler text to share

        Anonymous

Cool thanks, I just wanted to be sure so I can take it easy and get it after a few more goes through and not feel like I have to use a guide for it. I tried to get everything I could on my first playthrough and only got about 70% I think it was.
        >talking to seemingly innocuous random characters
        I always do that anyway.

        Anonymous

I'm fairly certain you can get over 100%.
For every choice if you take option A in the first playthrough and B in the second, you should have more than 100%.

          Anonymous

Yeah, you can easily go over 100% with new game+
Doing 100% in a single playthrough is absurdly annoying to do even with a guide. I checked a bunch of guides against each other and they all miss one tiny detail that leaves you 0.1% short. Then you get stuff like the commsphere scenes in chapter 4 where you have to watch one of them 14 different times just to get 0.1%, or where one of the commsphere scenes that counts towards 100% has a 50% chance of bugging out and not working, forcing you to reload a save because the scene won't be counted.

    I've been preaching X2's virtue's for years.
It's exploring a world after the final battle. A world at peace. That alone is worth the price of admission.
The story is pretty engaging too. Seeing Tidus locked in the cage in the begining is a damn good hook.
    The battle system is 10/10.
There were a few 'god I hope my family doesn't see me playing this' scenes. The massage comes to mind. But that's every Final Fantasy.

    Overall a solid 9.95 / 10.

To be fair FF 7 through 10 are all bad. They are fine when playing them first time, but when you try replaying them you'll find out the cutscenes can't be skipped and you are forces to watch hours of the same story you already watched, will minutes of gameplay here and there.
The 2d games' cutscenes were also unskippable, but they weren't nearly as continuous
