As is common in the genre, the game exhibits reverse difficulty scaling: endgame tends to be easier than early game. Now, this is partly contingent on you making *good* build decisions (you get more mileage out of levelups than the game "expects"), but I would say that any common-sense good builds are good enough to exhibit this phenomenon, not only min/max ones (in that case you may scale hard enough to one-round kill bosses, which is something you can't do at the start of the game).

And of course, the difficulty setting. As a newbie you'd likely have significant trouble on Core difficulty or higher at the beginning of the game (and continue to having significant although perhaps slightly lesser difficulty in endgame), but there's also a faceroll difficulty setting in which case you can faceroll the game with deliberately bad build choices and tactics, or you can individually toggle various settings on and off (e.g. allowing knocked out party members to get up after the combat without needing a resurrection spell, but at the same time toggling an option for increased number of enemies).

Core difficulty will whip your ass if you don't know what you're doing, lower it down if you want to go blind and still pick things that sounds cool or else you'll have a terrible time with the game

Sounds like you are both pussies and gay.

Depends on your difficulty. Up to Daring you'll be fine. On Core you may run into some trouble, but will be able to push through with some preparation or lucky rolls. On Hard or Unfair you're fricked.

      Which class did you pick?

I'm playing a chaotic neutral tiefling, on normal difficulty and picked Slayer. So far only in the part of the game going around the destroyed Kanabres but its not bad so far. My only problem is that it feels like Wenduag is the only one who does actual damage to enemies, while everyone is just a meatshield for her

Archers are amazing. It's simple action economy, archers get to full attack every round while melee homosexuals generally have to move + attack. Mounts supposedly help with this, I wouldn't know because I just use one melee as a blocker.

Until your melee gets higher attack rolls that will happen. But maybe im wrong i still have no idea what im doing and starting act 2 right now. Like in trying to read what that claw toggle ability is for shifter is have no fricking clue what it means, so i just keep it toggled and hope its benefitial.
I did find turning on turn based mode helpped me understand what was happening, but then shit like "death from above" ulbrig charge just didnt work, ir even my healer just wouldnt heal if he had to move a all, then the spell would just be queued even after combat and i couldnt cast it. Weird shit

          Anonymous

          >even my healer just wouldnt heal if he had to move a all,
Daeran starts every combat staggered, so he only has 1 action in the surprise round + first round. If you move (other than a 5-foot step), that eats your action.

            Anonymous

It wasnt the first action, it just glitched out, maybe because he had to move too far and i didnt notice but it shouldnt let me try and cast the spell i cant even do that turn, especially if its going to glitch him out. I have the extended range on heals in his mythic patch so maybe it wont happen much more.
But that ulbrig shit is so gay, i go to do death from above, but for some reason instead of use it he walked 5 ft to the left then does nothing, but the game gave no indication that using it would make him move.

Yeah that also happens, it's not too common in my experience but sometimes the game seems to think you've double-moved when that's not the case.

Basically despite having both RTwP and TB combat is the same time, after 100+ hours you will notice giant flaws. Both modes are barebones. WotR designed around RTwP with bare minimum efforts unlike PoE. You have non stop trash fights everyone because RTwPgays want to play their Diablo. You have bloated stats because game has no functioning AI, tactic and this is the only way to add challenge. Because of all this TB mod suffers. Enemies are not even using advantages of TB system, they have no AI (just compare it to Kingmaker's AI mod). It's serviceable of course but if you played OS2 or BG3, solasta, chalice you're forced to cope. Really hope they will get rid of RTwP shit in the next pathfinder game.

Switched to turn based mode and didnt get hit ever but fights took 10x as long. May as well just play this on lower difficulty and treat it like an autobattler you can slightly influence and play for the role play.

You're fine, it's impossible to frick that up. And you are on normal.

Wenduag/Lann are supposed to be your damage dealers early game, yes. Pure magic characters generally need Ascendant Element to do damage because everything in this game has energy resistance. Or, focus on saves instead, with the holy trinity of grease/glitterdust/color spray solving entire encounters. Ember/Camilla are very helpful early on for closing the gap on AC for martials or saves for magic. Note that their Evil Eye versions stack.

        How stacks work is

        >Did you move?
You only get one Attack per round
        >Stay Still?
See that (hopefully big) list of attacks under your character portrait? That’s the number of attacks you get per round. At first they’ll have an increasing penalty as they go, but they’re still very powerful.

So archers become amazing because they’re always full attacking. Melee can make up for this later with Vital Strike, which is effectively a full attack you can do on the go. Charge also helps, but takes an action.

That’s absolutely not true for either Kingmaker or WotR. Both games start off really simple with pretty basic encounters (especially if you start melee), but the final areas are downright brutal. The Wild Hunt in Kingmaker are a nightmare and fights like K in WotR are actually ridiculous (it should be an optional fight, it’s silly how much stronger he is than Areelu and Deskari).

Actually on that note, the first Deskari fight is absolutely brutal too depending on your Mythic Path. Some of the paths only really start to scale up after that fight meaning you have to really, really work to get him down.

That's not my experience at all. I've played with a number of somewhat memey setups like longsword and shield human male base fighter as Azata which I judged to be the weakest mythic path for the archetype, while sticking to base classes of companions and not using Nenio or Sosiel, which perhaps isn't complete nonsense (it's not like fighter or Lann 20 zen archer or Seelah 20 paladin are horrible classes), but on Core difficulty the toughest fight was water elemental, second toughest playfull darkness, and no other was really a challenge. With "actually good" builds like mutt warrior archer, well, I one-round kill Deskari on Core, and "meta builds" I one-round kill Deskari on Unfair, while Shield Maze in Act 1 or Gargoyle Fight or Plagued Smilodons in Act 2 for instance might catch me off guard and take some reloading.

          Anonymous

Played a Mut Warrior Azata, Water Elemental went down easy and Playful Darkness was just one improved Vital Strike from dying.

Deskari was a huge pain (even more if you want to not just kill him, but kill him AND get the shard) and K took a good half hour of attempts.

Just stick to a single class. Multiclassing is generally only for min maxing and there are so many classes and archetypes that any single class can handle almost any character concept. Set your companions to level automatically. Feats can be a bit tricky but just focus on whatever your main method of damage is with occasional defensive feats that make sense. Take whatever skills correspond to your highest stats. Don't worry about messing up because you can respec completely for gold. The respec is actually kind of crazy because you can effectively remake yourself from scratch, even changing race.

You should have plenty of space to frick up playing on the default difficulty setting, just stick to a single class, don't pick feats that don't suit your character and pay attention to your character screen. Also, teamwork feats are great. Always have in your party that can detect stuff, and disarm traps and open locks.

you're probably going to restart after playing for a few hours, which is not necessarily a bad thing, everyone fricking did at some point in fallout or baldur's gate etc... if those were their first CRPGs, the bottom line is that these kinds of PnP based or adjacent systems are absolutely fricking opaque to first timers or blind runs and builds are incredibly important, and you need a vague understanding of how the system works in general as well as what kinds of companions you will be getting to know what kind of build will even be functionally viable (from a can you beat the game on easy) let alone optimal or 'fitting your playstyle', just give it a shot, play until you feel like you have your bearings, and then roll a new character with the knowledge gained

As a general rule good builds are achieved by maximizing a desirable ability while minimizing everything else (that is, min/maxing): specialization resources (class levels, stat picks, gear, actions during combat, whatever) doing whatever your character isn't hyperfocused for, is bad. For example, if your main character can deal 200 damage per round, and you have a companion that can do 50 damage per round, it's better for the companion to cast a healing spell. Similarly, if you can pick a feat to do some more healing, and a feat to do some more damage, you wouldn't pick the healing feat on the character that is capable of doing more damage. This is how character-building works in basically all games: jack of all trades is almost always bad, and Pathfinder isn't an exception. Your reasoning for needing healing is sound, but the """correct""" way to do it would be to use a companion. Daeran for instance is a great healer once you get access to him.

On similar note, it's expected that Wendu is doing the bulk of the damage since fighters get a head start thanks to their bonus feats, but there are only so many high-priority feats and other classes catch up later and can have their own strong bonuses while fighters are left picking the lower value extra feats (that being said, fighter is a pretty good class, Mutation Warrior archetype, which Wendu unfortunately is not, in particular is S-tier).

Of course, if "it's not too bad so far", then there's no particular reason to deviate from what you are doing if that's how you want to play.

You’ll be fine, just pay attention when it tries to teach you things and don’t play on Core or Hard difficulty.

Pathfinder is a legitimate challenge, play on Normal and you’ll be fine. If you go above that it assumes you know the systems and builds enough to really push it to the limit. However, the difficulty is also very modular, so if you’re struggling, consider turning off things like Death’s Door and just having your companions revive after combat or something similar. You don’t need to, but there’s various tweaks you can use if you do start struggling.

Pathfinder is also a really great entry into CRPGs, because while it’s perfectly fine and often optimal to dip, you don’t NEED to. Every class is perfectly viable with just 20 levels pure, some classes it’s even best. So you can play around with giving people different specs, or just keep everyone pure, you’ll be fine either way.

      Agreed with

      Crusader

      - Crusader is the way to go

is this made by an ai?

What makes you think that? I don't think GPT-3 or other publicly available LLMs even have specific knowledge about WotR.

Don't be a rogue that's all I can say. Rogues fricking suck in this game until late game and even then you're rarely gonna get the chance to backstab and enemies will detect you 100% of the time even with max stealth.
    Be something more fun

anon.. all you need to do to get sneak attack is stand beside a companion, you do not need to cast invisibility or sneak to get it

You don't need to be in stealth for sneak attack in pathfinder.

        moron

Rogues suck because for some reason Owlcat can't fathom people want to steal, pickpocket, or do roguery shit. If its not fighting, you don't really do much of anything else.

Let me go over my experience then
        >Play rouge thinking I can bluff my way out of situations and use charisma
        >End up not being able to do that
        >Think I can manage by sneak attacks and shit
        >Don't do enough damage to actually kill anything and am too squishy to take a hit
        >Take on a paladin companion
        >Paladin companion alerts everyone to his presence and somehow mine
        Rogues suck in that game.

          >>Play rouge thinking I can bluff my way out of situations and use charisma
Rogues don't have Cha and social skills as their main focus, it's usually at best a "if you have points to spare" thing for them, if you wanted to be a social butterfly that can skip fights and stuff you should have picked an actual dedicated Cha class, specially Bard. Or carried Linzi around and let her do the talking for you.
          >>Don't do enough damage to actually kill anything and am too squishy to take a hit
You should be top or near top damage dealer in your party if you're sneak attacking consistently, all you need to do is simply not go in first and let your frontliners tank. You shouldn't even be that squishy past a certain point because Dex builds get AC through the roof.
companion alerts everyone to his presence and somehow mine
God please don't tell me you've been sneaking around while dragging your entire party around with you instead of leaving them behind at a prudent distance.

Problem is there's no way to really talk your way out of fights. Your enemies are all monsters. There's no real option to use charisma checks or anything like that. In fact skill checks in general are disappointingly low in that game.
And early on, no. Your top damage dealing skills suck but even if they didn't, you're almost always dealing with multiple enemies at a time and your entire arsenal is limited to single target attacks which means that even if you have the luxury of finishing off an enemy you've alerted the three to four others in the room of your presence and you're squishy as frick so good luck!
And no. I'd usually put him towards the back of the room and drag him out when I actually got into combat so he could help tank some hits while I hid behind him. but somehow if he was even in the same room as me half the time enemies automatically knew where he was which also revealed me.

Spellcasters get the majority of the AOE shit in that game even early on. Grease and pit traps completely break entire groups of enemies with ease

There are instances where you can use skill checks to avoid encounters or make them easier though

There’s some Rogue subclasses that do the charisma talking stuff, but otherwise you’re better with Bard, Paladin or Sorcerer there. Swashbuckler type Rogues are probably where you want to be looking though.

Rogues do absolutely frick tonnes of damage and should be one of if not your parties biggest staple. Most fights have a main, key enemy and the Rogue will be the one to blow them up.

Your other party members probably don’t Stealth well and move slowly even trying. Put greater invisibility on them or leave them behind when you’re scouting.

Pickpocketing and such in CRPGs is always a quickloading nightmare

yep. game is easy as hell once you figure out your class and build, most of the companions are also nice and have bloated stats for multiclassing unlike kingmaker

there's a certain way you have to engage fights in this game. it will probably be very difficult if you don't know what you're doing.

At 0:00 you get refreshed movement, events, etc. So travel/rest/whatever, then swap over to move your troops. Try to avoid any losses, you can get some back via first aid after combat if your losses don't fill up the bar. Save before you move your troops to fight, you will need to learn what kind of fights you can win.

Why does OwlCat keep picking the worst PF APs to adapt? Frick kingdom management, frick army management, all I want to do is build characters and progress through a story I can actually give a shit about.

Once you understand it, crusade mode is kind of a neat diversion from the dungeon routine. It also fits pretty well with the story. Not saying there isn't room for improvement.

Yeah. I get what they were trying to do though. There's a lot of small decisions and quests and they wanted them to actually affect something. But instead of some story progress or different game states, they simply end up giving you additional units or shit like that for the army.

I didn't like how the majority of buildings were utterly pointless, unless they increased the success rate of advisor tasks.
        >A flat, one time bonus to security kingdom stat, whoa!

I find unfathomable to prefer kingdom management to crusade mode, but most of the buildings in crusade mode are also not that useful in my experience. You need to get a critical level of Material Point income and recruitment, but beyond that you just want to fill up slots with any cheap thing in order to max out logistics.

Anyone know if there's a way to keep Death from Above on Ulbrig's hotbar? It's a pain in the ass to have to replace it after every transformation.

Feels more like a Kingmaker pet, massive stats, way more attacks than anyone else, and fairly easy access to Pounce. Manticore is the same, but a machine gun instead.

a mage character should be using their spells for support at the beginning anyway. Just play support until you can unlock ascended element at rank 2
