Just crouchwalk, it can't touch you.

When I was a kid I somehow forgot about crouchwalking, probably because it's never really necessary at any other point in the game. I ended up having to do suicide runs when I got to the tunnel of spikes and cursed the developers for putting what seemed like a RNG death machine right before the disappearing bridge (which actually *is* an RNG death machine).

I eventually crouchwalked by accident and realized I was making it 100 times harder than it needed to be. But I had to replay this level so many times when I was still doing it the moronicly difficult way that to this day I can't stand it. I hate everything about this fricking stage

the combat's easier but they made up for it with the platforming. also if you think that's bad then just wait until you reach the end of that level. hope you like heat man's stage without item 2.

This level is ass, especially the crushers, because their timing depends on when they appear on the screen rather than being pre-set, which lead to it being more difficult than it should depending on how the player approaches the area (this isn't the only trap in the game that is objectively badly designed) when there are several in a row.

You can jump on them though.

Starts easy but gets harder on the last stages. I'd say games like Belmont's Revenge are easier though.

    Rondo is easier.

The castle is when the game finally decides to ramp up the difficulty to typical Classicvania levels. I've been meaning to try a second loop run one day.

Love that game to death but the farthest I ever made it was me and the bros had it hooked up in the shed and taking turns every death, at a certain point I ended up carrying the run cause the homies aren't as autistic about platformers and I was in the zone - that fricking roullette bridge just before Frankenstein broke me. My least favorite obstacle in a nearly perfect game, absolutely killed the momentum and because there is no pattern or at least one recognizable to humans, that's as far as I've ever made it. I would kill for a mod that fixed just that one single element and nothing else. I want it to be difficult, but not bullshit diceroll garbage, it feels so fricking arbitrary dumping continues due to RNG. It isn't that it ruins the game, but it ruined the run of that evening and I'm still salty about it.
(Beat Rondo and Dracula X on the PSP and neither game had anything like that, just sayin)

embarrassing post. just crouchwalk. same thing with the seemingly erratic moving spikes on the ceiling later in the level. there's no time, just go the whole way crouchwalking

moron, there is a pattern, it's not random at all. just take a moment to study the timing

Because the game is great at giving the illusion that you're good at it. It's both why the game was so well received and why in the modern era of everyone wanting to be "hardcore" people love to point out it's the easiest Castlevania.
Reality is that it's not really easier than Rondo or Bloodlines, or 1 for that matter. The later half of IV is pretty though and even if you know the game by memory, executing all the action without errors is hard. I could 1cc CV1 and Rondo much easier than I did IV. But the extremely responsive controls and the unlimited continues let people tank through the game. But we all know these people claiming it's such an easy game got their ass handed to them by Stage 8, especially if they insist that "sub weapons are useless", that level is brutal without the Cross.
It's a well known fact IV is probably the hardest CV game to speedrun, precisely because the controls are so responsive, the skill ceiling is very tall, and if you want perfect execution you need real skills. Games like 1 and Rondo are much easier to play on autopilot once you know them.

iv is a cakewalk until you get into the janky platforming in the last couple levels t. only castlevania I was able to 1cc.

I thought the clock tower level with the autoscrolling and traps that would appear and knock you to your death was harder than the level the OP is stuck on but overall SCIV was easier than Castlevania 3 for me due to air control on jumps and not so many pixel perfect jumps.

I dunno, I thought the difficulty of those fights were spot on and enjoyable. The only part of the game I found annoying was the jank spinning wheel stair climb at the end. It’s hard because no matter what you do you go through the stairs sometimes.
