The good ending is playing the game belonging to a covenant indefinitely.

    Doesn't really matter.
You're not the only chosen undead to get that far. If you don't link the flames someone else will.
If you do link the flame then you're just burning another piece of the dark soul.

      >You're not the only chosen undead to get that far. If you don't link the flames someone else will
No they won't. Reaching the flame is an extremely hard task. And if you reach it and not link it you become a Dark Lord. Someone would have to defeat you and all your minions before the flame fades to continue the age of fire

Anon the game has the fricked up time and space as a game mechanic. You can see ghosts of other players right outside of the kiln.
If you save solaire from chaos bugs he makes it to the end.

It's subjective. But not linking the flame makes you a dark lord.

        Depends how you see it.
On one hand you're breaking the world out of the stasis forced on it by gwyn and the people who have lord souls, but you're also tearing down everything that system created.

it doesnt have to be, its up to you. "humanity" can be gathered in different ways
ultimately though you would be forming some sort of akira with all of humanities collective soul and it would absolutely require killing others who are trying to hold on to their humanity / do the same thing to become dark lord

Depends on who gets the power in the Age of Dark. Not really good or bad but inevitable. Ending it sooner is arguably the right choice as less people have to suffer losing their humanity to the Flame through the Darksign

If you keep the cycle of fire going you're just posponing the current regime of "gods" making up stories about "brave heroes" in order to fool travelers (or keeping people from becoming hollow) so they can keep the in-universe way of getting "energy" going by kindling the fire, so you keep the status quo of the world. If you choose not to, you just begin a new age without "fire", you make a revolution to the unkown

    >in one ending you have a nice day (or what's worse, become a lord of Cynder destined to suffer from eternity as a slave of the flame) after the gods trick you into doing all kinds of excruciating tasks for them. All to perpetuate their own decadent age
    >in the other ending you stay alive, gain an army of serpents and start the age of humans (the age of the Dark Souls™ the descendants of pygmy™) as their king
Geeeez, I wonder what ending I'd have chosen if I was the chosen undead!

why do games have multiple endings? its always been so stupid to me

In this case its the illusion of agency. For the whole game you're on some ill defined quest and are being guided by cryptic bullshit. Once you finally get through it you're presented with a choice, both of which ultimately serve the primordial serpents.

it's dark souls. both endings leads to something but i don't remember what the dark ending ever was about beyond a superficial level. but considering the franchise went to make 3 souls games. igniting the fire i guess

  18. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

Depends on how you look at it. Linking the fire only prolongs the inevitable for another 1000 years, at which point you're pretty much out of options, and becoming the dark lord is simply accepting the course of nature and the fact that all things end

  19. 1 year ago
    Anonymous

There is no good ending, and you really don't have any choice, only the illusion of choice.

The Primordial Serpents represents FromSoftware, they present themselves as different entities giving different choices, but really they're one and the same, and the ending you get really doesn't change anything in the long run. The die was already cast from the start.

the way they did darkstalker kaathe was pretty bullshit. It's the most important story element in the game and it hinges completely on you doing a sequence break with no particular significance attached to it.

I don't know about that. On a second playthrough (ng+ or a new character) you might be tempted to bumrush the lordvessel as soon as you can which throws a curveball when you see that creepy Black person hanging from the void.

I hate the cycle retcon so much, it's so fricking stupid. There was zero indication of a cycle in the first game

Neither one. Linking the flame means you sacrifice your life to extend the status quo Age of Fire. Letting the fire go out means you become Lord of Men in a new Age of Men.

The real consequences of either decision are never defined. You're never given more than vague hints what the "Age of Fire" even means, and almost none at all about the hypothetical Age of Dark (presumably because it's not known what will happen if the fire goes out).
