oh wow the boss instantly retaliates if you dare do more than 1 combo?
guessing about an arbitrary meter that you can't see is moronic, worse than stance in elden ring.

Most noteworthy action games have revenge values, otherwise you would either be able to stunlock them to death or they would break out of your combos arbitrarily. Even A Link to the Past had revenge values.
The problem in KH2 is not revenge values but how boss attacks work. Most of the time you have to play by the boss's rules and take turns, which I'm not a fan of. In KH1 guarding/parrying was a lot more powerful and could interrupt a lot of attacks. There were also more ways you could outright avoid the boss's attacks by moving to the right place (for example jumping on Cerberus's back), which was kinda janky in practice but the concept was sound.
That's one thing I really like about DMC, you almost never have to play by the boss's rules. You can fly all over the place and avoid or mitigate boss attacks in a bunch of different ways.

I like it because it clearly defines when your turn is. In other action games, bosses will just act through all your damage and you have to rely on reactions to cancel out of whatever you are doing to do some sort of evasive maneuver. Stuff like that obfuscate when you should be attacking because in theory it makes you want to think "i should always be attacking then".

Oh, that's really interesting, it seems to be one of the best action RPG, even more advanced than FF7RE, which I found really simple.

I'm only missing Sephiroth, the Ice Giant now and the timed Olympus, besides the final stage. I think I'll beat the game before trying to defeat them.

The Ice Giant seems to be really trick, there's something I didn't get about him, probably Stop + Fire. I don't know.

I can't wait to start 2, I'm very hyped for this one. I'll play it while I finish CoM.

The ice giant was the only one I beat, on normal idk what difficulty you're on.
I had to watch a video to learn how to deflect projectiles since I went through the entire game without blocking.

I tried to deflect, but it didn't work. Maybe the timing was wrong, I'm on proud.I'm sure I've hit the spikes though.

Why are you attacking the spikes and not using guard?

            Anonymous

Because it deflects/parry everything. Guard is slower too because the enemy can deflect the guard.

So the secret is to use guard? Aero didn't deflect the spikes either, like the fireballs.

Stop being moronic. I'm not even arguing. I'm just saying that using guard instead of attacking the projectles is bad design because you can pretty much deflect everything by timing well with a sword. I didn't even ask for your help, nosy butthole.

Nice, I'll do it like this. That's what I was going for. I didm't really tryed against him though, just gave two half-hearted attemps. I knew it would work, it sidn't make sense when you can counter everything with the keyblade. I find it very fun to perfect time stuff, I'll use a longer sword.

It's either this or you get either effortless gameplay or most Osaka Team projects where enemies and bosses can break out of combos any time they want. And, depending on the difficulty, instantly kill you for it, meaning you have to spam cheesy attacks or die. Revenge value is more of a reflex you gain to know when you stop risking assaults and back off before the inevitable breakaway.

I liked how NEO TWEWY did it because not only do the enemies have color-coded tells to inform about the breaking point at which they’re about to counter, but you also have wide variety of ways to reset that counter.
    >Trip Wire
    >Poltergeist
    >entombing
    >freezing
    >confusing/stunning
    >Time Stop
    >Gravity mashup
    >Black Hole
    >Snare Trap
The trick is that if you run a status effect-centric build, status effects prevent the revenge value from increasing and allow it to naturally decay, so if you keep chaining status effects with surprisingly tight timing you can still stunlock an enemy, it's just way trickier than most games and requires you to specifically build your kit around it. Status effect proccing attacks also tend to leave you more vulnerable than others, meaning it's a very high-risk high-reward gimmick. If you combo enemies just enough times, they’ll go straight into the counterattack without the yellow telegraph first and enemies become far more frequent to breaking out in counters with each new round in a chain. Not to mention that large enemies like rexes and mammoths don’t have them and bosses such as Shiba and Sho don’t have colors to telegraph their visuals and instead rely on a visual and audio cue, so there’s a good balance. Plus you can use revenge values against enemies to lead them into traps you’ve set-up beforehand.

Literally every single hack n slash that you can combo the boss in has a fricking revenge mechanic, you fricking mongoloid. Go have a nice day. Would you rather be stunlocking the boss for the entire duration of the fight or be able to only get in one hit on the boss before he rapes you in your tight little tourist secondary butthole?

Are you sure you're actually seeing stutter? I'm on a GTX 1060 and the PC ports run at a flawless 60fps. If you're seeing the framerate jump down to 30 in cutscenes, that's intentional.

            60 is stutter too

I think your "stutter" is the feeling of the fps dropping to native everytime you jump or do an attack. The game runs at high fps but everytime you want to do something it's gonna drop HARD for a second. Which is bullshit but patchable.

Revenge Value is a cool idea but the utter lack of conveyance makes it moronic. NEO TWEWY does it way better because the game actually hints at the current state of an enemy's revenge value (they briefly shine yellow at 60 full and flash red right before activating their revenge attack)

  12. 3 months ago

Don't have it on PC but it could be that you're also seeing animation stutter due to the interpolation not playing nice or something

it's a guess initially but by the time you get to midgame i thought it was pretty intuitive when the boss' revenge value was ready to blow. it's really not hard to intuit. like 2 and a half combos.
