I give up.

I give up.

Not possible to make a videogame without combat, or some kind of rival or enemy you need to defeat using violence or some kind of racing competition.

I wasted a couple years trying to make a game without combat, only to find something that while interesting is not fun.

I give up on this silly quest.

Anon there are thousands of games like train simulator that you don't need to fight against an opponent at all. Those have existed and there are thousands of examples of them.

You simply don't have the intellect or world experiences to do it. If you were closer to zach barth in knowledge you could pull it off.

        >sims don't count
        >citybuilding is just a type of sim
        >or puzzle games like Fez
        >uh, in celeste you're against the mountain, duhh
        >survival is just PvEnviroment so they don't count either
        >shut up, nothing counts! Just let people be sad
You should be ashamed of yourself for making this thread. If you left this site you would be a happier person, some people turn into hyper-ironic losers that let it affect their normal lives, for your own good: just leave

Make a game where instead of combat, you have interactive sex scenes. And whoever cums first loses.

Platformers don't need combat. They often have some form of it, but it's not remotely necessary.

Not necessarily. Wonder boy III (maybe the others I don't know) isn't just a platformer so you can get hit and killed by monsters. But when it comes to the actual platforming there are no bottomless pits or spikes. If you fail a jump you just fall down to a lower section and have to work your way back up. You could definitely make a pure platformer that worked like this. And in fact that's pretty much what getting over it is.

No, I mean a game without any type of conflict againts another force or object.

But even while I got some interesting results.

Like using a timer as gameover state, and then having objectives that fill a progress bar as win state.

I eventually realize, while It would make a cool original tetris puzzle type of games.

It simply lacks the pull and trill that combat produces.

Traversing an environment (platforming) isn't really a conflict. You're not even really fighting gravity, since uncontrollably flying upwards wouldn't be especially helpful and so gravity is actually helping you get where you want to go. Although the other anon is right, you could just do a game in space or the ocean.

            >I mean a game without any type of conflict
Well, all games are about problem solving. The challenge of solving a problem can be considered conflict, but that doesn't make it combat. There are lots of video games where you don't "fight" anything, you just jump around or sneak past combat or progress dialogue trees or collect stuff or build stuff and watch your ratings go up.
            >It simply lacks the pull and trill that combat produces
Obviously that's just your opinion. Punching someone is just the simplest way of solving a problem, making it satisfying for everyone. But that doesn't have to be the case. It rarely is in real life. You could make a game all about trying to get through the day solving as many problems as you can without resorting to violence, as it causes a chain reaction of bigger problems. If we were all super geniuses, we'd never resort to violence, as we'd be able to foresee a better alternative - it'd just require more work.

              I actually got alternative systems.

The issue is that they feel more like the bread and veggies ot a hamburger, than a proper hamburger.

I still think I'm on the right path, I'm just running out of ideas that aren't actually to put some combat to spice it up.

I even got an alternative to a game without a win or game over screen.
But I just need to explore more this land.

It feels like exploring atonality in music.

There are a lot of non-violent games, puzzle games are almost entirely non-violent.
If you're looking for non-violent games that also have no set timed/forced objective then yeah of course you'll struggle, thats a very hard balance to strike.
