Japanese games outside of Nintendo and Namco are seriously autistic and I don't get why people obsess over them.

Don't you mean Nintendo, Capcom, and Konami? Because anything outside those struggles a bit with the "get to the bloody point" part.

Not at all. Konami has many autistic, obtuse games like this. I do agree Capcom games are usually pretty direct.

It happened to be that way historically.

Japs started with making those shitty cryptic games out of lack of knowledge on how to make games in general. Then they started making it in such way so they could sell guides.
And then it simply became a natural way of developing them, since gamers were already used to bullshit and formed that mentality when they were dedicated to beat game, no matter how shitty it is.

They've basically embraced the jank and learned to like it since it was all they've had.

Lurk moar then. These days on this board ANYTHING that isn't Mario or Zelda is "jank", "shovelware" "insert-new-trendy-word", and actually even 8-bit Mario and Zelda are called that

I also did. So did all of my close friends whom I still maintain contact with today. We all live on different continents though, lol. That's the talented generation for you. I doubt you'll ever have friends you'll remember longer than the time it takes for your phone screen to turn off, and I doubt you'll ever be able to have fun playing a video game. Just a sad little husk-boy, born without a soul.

I loved games like this as a kid and I didn't mind that I rarely progressed in them. Just actually finding a new block to hit was exciting and gave me something to tell the other kids at school so they could try it too and then come back and tell me what they found after that. That was how we played video games, and it was enough.

But you're trying to play this game as a lonely, bitter, 30-year old virgin manchild and losing hair off the top of your head because it isn't satisfying the giant aching hole in your life.

I played this as a kid and kinda liked it. But I never got anywhere in it so it didn't stick with me as anything but a small, intriguing mystery.

This would have been a great OP for this thread. Why are the actual OPs we get irredeemable, bitter, malding trash? They don't understand that merely *playing* a game and exploring and learning were fun in and of themselves, even if you didn't beat the game immediately.. or even eventually.
      >it gets (You)s!
Not many, and not high-quality ones.

Sad how Mike's dumbass couldn't figure out how to push a discolored block, and all these impressionable drones took his word as gospel.

This bullshit was deliberate because it was a pretty early CNROM game with only 64k of ROM so they had to artificially pad out the game length.

You don't know anything. Even without the puzzle elements this game is long and has tons of content for the platform/genre/style. They didn't "need" to pad out anything, that's just modern revionism from people who expect all games to last 8-10 hours at the minimum.

The puzzles elements were a thing of their time. Players actually LOVED that stuff back then. It all comes from the success of Tower of Druaga.

Hudson did a total of 42 NES/FC games but we only got eleven of them.

AVGN was way too hard on this one. He clearly never saw some of the jank Hudson put out that stayed in Japan.
