I have caught a shiny Mew from Faraway Island on my copy of Emerald (American) using ACE. If I were to transfer this to Pokemon Bank and Home would I count as a legal mon, or would it be unable to get past the hack check? It's shiny if that matters.

It's illegal. It would be flagged. The only way to have a Faraway island Mew legally is if it's Japanese. The only way to have a shiny English Mew legally is through Pokemon Go, or glitching gen 1 in the 3ds VC.

I think you can still transfer it though right?

the glitched mew is illegal also, no legal mew has a DV combination that allows for it to be shiny.

I think you can still transfer it though right?

You can transfer both and probably be fine though, bank/home hack checks aren't that great.

The glitched Mew is legal. Or at least you can transfer it to Home provided you do all the required glitches. It's likely banned in official tournaments.

Official tournaments ban Mythicals in the first place regardless of legality

        >the glitched mew is illegal also
Depends on how your using it. I have a glitched/ACE Shiny Mew that I was able to transfer over into HOME and have been able to send into every compatible game to date with no issues; using it in an official tournament may be problematic, but OP only cares about getting the Shiny registered in their 'Dex and not using it competitively, so I don't imagine they'd be dumb enough to bring it into anything that'll get them banned.
tldr; yes, you can trade a Shiny ACE Mew over into HOME with no issues, and can use it in any game you want - just don't go online with it.

OP don't listen to these dogs. I did the same thing about 2 years ago and it is fine.

      >or glitching gen 1 in the 3ds VC.
But glitching in Gen 3 Pokemon Emerald is apparently not legal?
      Shut up homosexual.

If Mew itself is allowed in the tournament, it will be able to be used dumb homosexual.

There was a shiny Mew mystery gift for gen 6. I think that's the only legal way to get an English shiny Mew outside of Go. Feel free to inject.

      have a nice day

Ok, nice. I was mostly wondering since the Mew itself is not generated in any wacky way but was legitimately unavailable outside of Japan and Taiwan.

GF needs to make a proper shiny mew distribution
The fact that they made people pay to have a shiny mew through GO is pretty scummy

There was never a shiny Mew distribution other than in Japanese Emerald in 2005 and in Pokémon Go from what I can tell
I just looked now and couldn't find any distribution like that, and I don't see other people talking about it... source?

I tried to look for it but can't find it either. Guess I may have dreamt it or jumped universes.

happens, especially because events for shiny mew shouldn't be so scarce in the first place

It would not be flagged by the game, but it's still illegal. If you did the same thing on a Japanese copy of the game it'd be legal though

If a human arbitrator looked at your Pokemon they'd immediately be able to tell it isn't legitimate, I mean. And if the game's hack check were to (hypothetically) ever improve in a future game the Mew would get flagged anyway

Wrong. I did not cheat to obtain this Mew. I did certain actions that were coded into the game itself. Devs fault for missing it.

You can also use ACE glitches to make a wonder guard sableye or something and it'd also be the devs' fault for putting out buggy shovelware, would you consider that legal as well

It will not get flagged until Gen 6, it's actually a legitimate problem if you try to play the wifi tower on altwfc today

You could also ACE in a Celebi or Shiny Jirachi or something without the event OT and they still wouldn't get flagged any game

Easy to bypass that shit with fire fang since it never had a check on if it could go through wonder guard, since Shedinja was already weak to fire, so getting a spiritomb or sableye with wonderguard just means you have to run fire fang.

Really? In Emerald? I thought the OT was part of the check in bank.

You can put spore and sheer cold and shit on random mons with ACE and it'll literally never get flagged

try it yourself anon, you just can't use it in ranked battles without wiping its moves first (this applies to all pokemon from past generations)
don't have my 3DS with me but I used a no guard sheer cold machamp for all the battle facilities up until gen 7

Illegal Pokemon in Home is the only thing they are cracking down on you can find a recent article through Merrikus site about how they banned a ton of people with illegal shinys.
There is also the new method of your Nintendo account is now tied to home so if you do get banned it could frick your entire Nintendo account.
They can always see what Pokemon data is but they wont do anything cause..... they just wont okay?

If you were to use ACE to alter the language origin of the pokemon, wouldn't that make it completely indistinguishable from a legit one?

        Anonymous

Yes, though I haven't heard of anyone actually doing that so I don't know if there's a method. But if you can it'd be completely legal yeah

I've tried it, you'd still get flagged by pkhex as illegitimate because PID correlates to your trainer name. And you can't get English characters on Jap games or vise versa.

Do you think the devs would ever care to ban someone for that?

No. I've read that the games don't even take PID into consideration when hack checking mons

dunno, latin alphabet in jap versions always have a pretty distintive font but dunno if this was implemented way back in gen 3
