I hear this game is incredible, but also that it's a once and done kind of game, which seems like a turnoff. Did you like it and would you replay it?

I did love it and would recommend it.
It's true that, due to the nature and design of the game, it basically can't be replayed at all.
I would probably replay it after some time has passed but I think the fun comes from experiencing everything for the first time, solving the puzzles and piecing the secrets of the world together. That can make replaying it immediately less enjoyable.
Loved it, I occasionally dick around in VR mod and I might eventually do a complete playthrough but once you solve the mystery it's not as engaging.
It's great, and it only being playable once is a necessary consequence of its design
Soul sometimes requires sacrifices
The game world is basically one big puzzle box you put together to solve the final puzzle. If you already know the solution to the final puzzle you can complete the game in 20 minutes. That's the reason you can't really play it twice.
>Did you like it
It was great
>would you replay it?
Nope. It's like a metroidvania that opens up as you learn how the solar system you explore works. Once you know, you know.
Boring gameplay, never know where to go and all you do is read and fly and walk, dropped it because I'm also not interested in whatever story I got while playing
this is my experience as well
but if the story and character interactions are up your alley, you'll probably like the game, OP.
I'll add that the jetpack was decently fun too.
No, there is no point replaying it once you realise you need to stand on the teleporter stone on Ash Twin while the sand passes above it to get to the core.
The game is kino, the less you know about it going in the better. I do not mind that it's a one time kind of game
It's good. Leave this thread so you don't get too spoiled.
This. If it not being replayable is an issue, get it on sale. Definitely worth checking out and the less you know the better.
Just buy it on sale dumbfuck. Are you poor or gay or something?

Not much of a spoiler since the player wouldn't know the significance of what they find there, what to do with it, or what they're trying to achieve by doing so.
Still, anyone who hasn't played it should abandon thread. In general asking Ganker about spoiler-sensitive games is a terrible idea. I actively avoid the board whenever there's a new game with a story I care about.
I fucking hate the idea that everything needs replayability.
no replayability but I can always listen to the traveler's song and remember how much i enjoyed it
are they even planning to make more games?
>come out of nowhere with a small team
>develop one of the games of all time
>leave silently
I am unironically mindbroken by the fact that I cant enjoy games anymore after Outer Wilds and there won't be any more gems like this
give case of the golden idol a try.
on top of that, there's only really 1 programmer on the team, (the other programmer is a technical artists so he only writes shaders) so unless they do some hires the next game will be decades away.
I mean this game came from a college final project plus 10 years of polish
The Forgotten City and Myst are very much like Outer Wilds.
>the player's dead body no longer trigger ship log entries
>it's a once and done kind of game, which seems like a turnoff
what causes this type of brain damage?
It's a 10/10 game. But either play it or don't. It really is a game like other people say where being told anything about it will detract from your experience of it. Most games that you can have the plot spoiled it doesn't really matter if you do get spoiled, you'll still enjoy the game just about as well, but Outer Wilds isn't not a game like that. So either commit to playing it, only knowing that it is a very good space exploration game, or commit to not playing it.
It's a game about discovery and knowledge, so it doesn't really work on repeat playthroughs
>Muh replayability
Why does everything need to be replayed? Do you also watch movies 10 times each?
It's a wonderful filter. Those who lack direction and a love of discovery will find themselves quitting after 10 minutes crying on Ganker that it's a walking sim and you don't do anything. Those capable of exploring for the sake of exploring will find something incredible in it. The game doesn't tell you where to go, and that rightly removes unwanted people.
You forgot the third group.
People that explore for hours but find the writing to be mediocre.
I guess a random student project could pass for a storytelling masterpiece on Ganker, the troglodyte central.
This is the case with any video game that receives high praise in terms of storytelling.

>it's a once and done kind of gam
That's the vast majority of single player games.
I don't see myself replaying Outer Wilds because I have a pretty good memory for game details, so a new playthrough for me would be just a checklist of things to do rather than a proper exploratory experience.
Yeah, it's really quite good. Also very comfy, if you mod it a bit to speed up and to make the loop longer. Don't forget to talk to the guy on Giant's deep to learn meditation.
You can't replay it, it's entirely knowledge based.
It's a fucking awesome game, either way.
>Did you like it
Yeah, it was legitimately 10/10
>and would you replay it?
No, your knowledge is all the progress in the game. Unless you can force yourself to forget somehow, you can't really replay it.
There's no way to replay it. The game can be completed very quickly once you know what to do. The magic lies in figuring it out and taking in all the sights and character development as you do so
The less you know about it the better, BUT many people get frustrated because there's a few gatekeeping moments depending on what you do. Sometimes lines of dialogue that are CRUCIAL to the overall puzzle can be easily missed, leaving you in the dark because you just go somewhere else
Yep, its great, though i personally didnt like the dlc and never completed it, the spooky sections were a complete turn off.
Is it worth it to get the bundle with the DLC or nah?
yep it's worth it, DLC is as good as the main game for most people. First beat the main game then go and do the DLC on the same save file and then complete the ending of the main game
Probably not if you don’t know if you’ll like it. Honestly I would play the base game without even having the DLC installed because if you stumble into the DLC stuff too early (really any time before beating the base game) you’re going to have no appreciation of its plot because you won’t have any idea what is happening. And you could definitely stumble into the DLC too early and not even know you’re playing it.
The only reason I would get the bundle is for significant savings, but I would make sure the dlc was literally uninstalled until you beat the game.
just don't follow the plot thread in the radio tower on your starting planet and that's it, it's extremely unlikely he'll bump into the DLC by accident
It's different. I really, truly loved the base game and quit DLC after the first time you cross a certain boundary, it felt like wasting time. Some people really like it however, it depends.
Can you give a slight hint of what the boundary was? I’m struggling to come up with what you mean
It's a slightly different kind of gameplay, and some parts you need to access didn't feel enjoyable to explore like the base game does. I also didn't like the story in general from what I saw. But that's just me.
You play hide and seek in the dark at one point
>outer reddit
It is quite literally my favorite game of all time and the DLC is like a 9.5/10. I’ll replay it the instant I forget enough about it that i can’t just remember how to do everything, maybe like 5 years.
As a follow up, replaying it won’t give anywhere near the same value, but it would just be fun to experience the stuff again because I liked the first time so much
Why the fuck do you have to replay every game? Most of the assholes here don't even finish games once
You can't replay it: game progress is dependent on what you know, and there's minimal distinction between the player and the player character for that. Best you can do is have a wander about reminiscing.
>but also that it's a once and done kind of game, which seems like a turnoff
why? you're not 9 anymore, you don't have to get the most hours per dollar out of a game anymore. instead focus on great and unique experience.
this is a 15h game for like 13 bucks when it's on sale. totally worth it for how inspiring it feels.
>but also that it's a once and done kind of game
Most adventure games with puzzle elements are like this. You play through Riven once, and there's no reason to play it again since you already know the solution to all of the puzzles.
you’re a turn off
I already forgot most of it after 2 years and I haven't played the DLC yet. I can't wait to go back
I waited a few months before getting and trying the DLC, it was too early and I still remember too much. I might wait for the Deckard to come out and try it in VR.
boo
People keep talking about puzzles in relation to Outer Wilds. I disagree strongly with this. OW is not a puzzle game and there are not puzzles. OW is a mystery/detective game.
You can compare it to reading a detective novel. There isn't much point in re-reading it once you figure out the mystery.
It's an incredible game however. Easily top 5 of the last decade.
the entire fucking game is about replaying the whole fucking thing again every 5 fucking seconds you fucking retard
