I know its flaws and i know them well. I know the durability was sketch.

I know its flaws and i know them well. I know the durability was sketch. I know it scrapped its original story about the Throne, artificial dragons and time travel because bamco said it needed to be "REMEMBER DARK SOULS 1 THO" and this was its detriment. I know SotFS is a badly balanced memester quest version.

I know it all. But i don't care. This is still my favourite Dark Souls game and it always will be.

1 is complete dogshit after Anor Londo and 3 is a recycle of ideas and so utterly reliant on REMEMBER DARK SOULS 1 THO???? that its own original concepts like "the coming age of deep sea" are cast aside in favour of soulless, ironically i guess, nostalgia bait.

Meanwhile for its flaws DS2 is actually the successor to Kings Field. In particular the final kings field game was made by the same people that made DS2 and from themes to ideas one is a clear inheritor of the other that had DS1 nostalgiabait bolted on but did not manage to erase its own identity completely like what happened to DS3.

My opinion is because i'm a free thinker. Yours is because a youtube essayist told you it. We are not the same.

The hate for the second half of DS1 is so overblown IMO.
        Duke's Archive was fine
        So was New Londo
Tomb of Giants was a miss, but the game gives you several tools to deal with the darkness.
Lost Izalith was rushed, but the area itself looked quite good in some places.

They literally took a massive area and said "lets literally copy paste the undead dragon ass from the painted world all over this area like a kid planting trees in minecraft in creative mode". I have never seen something so lazy in a game made outside rpg maker post 20th century.

Same with the Capra and Taurus demons earlier on.
Then we get 1 reskin boss, one meh boss, and the shittiest boss of the trilogy. Not even Dragon God was as bad.
Sucks, because i could tell they had some interesting ideas for the place with their weird bug and lovecraftian monster themes. Shame some investors pulled out, causing FROM to rush out the last parts of the game,

I don't think a single Fromsoftgame outside of Armoured Core VI has ever been a final release that matched their original intentions.

I think Miyazaki said Bloodborne was his favourite project because he pretty much got to do all that he planned for that game.

Theres still a shocking amount of content cut for time. Originally we were meant to descend the chalice dungeons to find the origins of the nightmare at the bottom called "the lake of mud" where we fight the real Moon Presence and the idea is Yharnam isn't built on a bunch of different civilisations but the other way round and the real yharnam is the ruin all the other civilisations were built on, implying people never learn and despite what you do people with ambition and no morals will make this all start again over and over.

What we got wasn't bad but the inverse reveal that this is anti dark souls and this IS the origin story all along was ludokino.

3's nostalgiabait is worse than 2's because its invasive on a meta level. The Dragonslayers armour used by dragoons in Anor Londo took on a life of its own after being drenched in dragon blood or some shit and you just happen to run into one in Heid as it chased some half mistaken misrememberings of Gwynnevere? bit odd but fine. You ran into some leftovers that got lost. Thats Dark Souls to a T.

Now compare to Dark Souls 3 where Solaires Sword is found in a chest in the middle of a random room in the capital of the worlds castle multiple millennia and total societal collapses and reinventions. Didn't you clap at the reference to le sunny D man??

One uses existing assetts as a lazy recycle. The other takes you out of the game to wink at you like a fricking MCU after credits teaser. One is intended to pad content, the other exists just to make people that played DS1 soiface like a 35 year old reacting to a star wars trailer on tiktok.

As with other souls games, the only people who dislike DS2 simply suck at the game, never learned its quirks, never tried different builds, never played multiplayer, etc. Basically, if you are stupid and suck at video games, this game will make you angry, and you will blame the game for your skill issues -- and that's a GOOD thing!

      >never played multiplayer
probably because soul memory fricked everyone over

Back in the day you could always find PvP at the bridge or PvE in on-level areas. Soul memory was a failed experiment, but it's ultimately a red herring that didn't impact anyone's ability to find other players at peak player count

DS2 isn't a bad game compared to 95% of the rest of the market but it is a shit souls game simply because of the fact that it misses the point and goes all in on "le hard game" in the worst way possible by being intentionally annoying instead of actually challenging, this is on top of its crippled potential graphically and gameplay-wise considering its shit development

      Anonymous

what? DS2 is by far the easiest game of the series, it gives you endless tools to power through everything to the point there's no wrong route with builds unlike other entries

        Anonymous

But you assume these idiots understand how those tools work.

Remember these are people that shit on Sekiro because they see a tutorial for how posture works and go "yeahyeahyeahgot it" and close it without reading it and think its a game about dodging and doing damage to a health bar like dark souls and spend the whole gaming playing it wrong then act like thats the games fault.

Are there any enemies in Elden Ring with unique behaviors beyond just making a beeline for your location and attacking?

Pretty sure they reused the snow wolf AI at the very least. Their was some others that I have vague memories of, maybe the giants?

DS2 has some neat things in it but the movement feels like such shit that I just can't enjoy it. I don't mean Agility and its effects on animations/dodge rolls, I mean the actual movement. It's animated like garbage and there's a tendency to slide off surfaces, it just feels like shit to actually play.
Still, the game has a lot of ideas I wish they'd follow up on, and I definitely prefer the wild ideas and crazy weapons and spells over the dark souls 3 approach of trying to make everything balanced but just ending up boring and samey instead.

I've always found discussion around 2 to be funny. Especially when all the try hard "you didn't beat x souls game if you used y item or weapon" people show up. Like DS2 was the only one that had not only one but two different challenges built into the game with its own rewards but no one here ever talks about that fact.

I'll always remember watching a two best friends play video where Pat shows Woolie DS2 and he pulls the big ogre in the tutorial area into a position where it cant hit him and he just kills it safely and says "why play fair when you can just fricking cheat" and these idiots who think beating DS1 makes you a navy seal with 2 gorillion confirmed kills so salty.

I like it very much too, it’s one of the last games that just has an “old fromsoft” feel to it, there’s just some King’s Field-esque feel trough out the game

      Anonymous

Thats because its the team that made Kings Field IV: The Ancient City. It is the actual spiritual successor but built as a soulslike the same way Demons Souls was basically a pre SotN Castlevania Successor.

Basically if you like DS2 go play Kings Field 4. Its the same team, same vibes and a true classic people give a bad rep because it was a reboot and not part of the original trilogys world and lore.
