Being fricking 7-8 feet tall and wide like a mountain is aspirational in its own way. For a character like Thor, this design seems reasonable enough
Kratos (being Greek) is closer to that ideal whereas Thor embodies the concept of strength for a northern people

Why are you projecting contemporary ideals on ancient mythology? Ancient Greeks idolized small dicks, up until the Late Middle Ages being fat was a symbol of status. A great warrior back then looked more like a truck driver than Chris Hemsworth. You're making the mistake of falling for blonde hair, blue eyed Jesus.

Thor has red hair more often than not in the myths. He was sometimes referred to as "red beard." Marvel's Thor has little to do with mythology: comic book artists don't (generally) read their sources, they just grab what looks cool.

Cory/Corey Barlog was the director and one of the main writers for GOW 2018. GOW 2018's depictions of the gods and its vision for Ragnarok varies wildly from what the sequel ends up doing, which subverts or outright ignores much of the setup of the prior game. What makes this interesting is that Cory Barlog isn't credited as a writer for GOW: Ragnarok. But there's a lot of new writers there that weren't there for the prior game.

Odin was brought up a lot in 2018. Made him seem significantly more of a c**t than he actually ended up being in Ragnarok, although I despise how they made him into some american sitcom tier character.

Idk where you revisionists are getting your info but Ragnarok doubles down on showing just how depraved Odin is. He wasn't just a prick who stole magic and betrayed people, he enslaved the dwarves, magic creatures, genocided entire nations. Odin was literally Hitler. And Thor isn't just a ravenous warrior, he's more like a psychotic serial killer who kills anything within reach and goes out of his way to murder indiscriminately.

The story does even feel like it's missing a beat. Are you even playing the game or just echoing what you hear in Ganker?

    >Gets killed immediately after the very first time he shows rebellion to Odin

Read Proclus. Even as far back as late antiquity there were Greeks that understood that the anthropomorphic representations of what are otherwise supposed to be the noetic principles underpinning reality were always meant for the rubes.

Try the Pre-Socratics and the disdain some held for the Hesiod. Try the mystery religions. Dionysus was also a bringer of civilization, a representation of primordial chaos, he wasn't some bro daddy god. Thales and co. wanted nothing to do with anthropomorphic principles. Even before Plato the exoteric/esoteric tension was very much present. Read a book you drooling Black person.

Nobody is saying they were exactly like how Ragnarok portrays them. Ragnarok's writing is shit. But they weren't perfect and there's plenty of writing in Norse myth of the gods doing dumb, petty and often evil shit, Thor included.

Yeah I'm so sick of these armchair Norse experts all of a sudden. Read Carlyle, for frick's sake. These were entities who had mastered themselves and the universe, not warmongering drunkards and sadists. Do these clowns really think the Nordic people went around dunking on the guardians of the cosmos like it was fricking proto-Twitter or something? I hate Whedon so much.

I don't think it's actually much of a stretch to think that. Which Fertile Crescent civilization was it again? One of our biggest insights on it was a shopping ledger from somebody who kept meticulous track of everybody he'd swindled. I want to say Sumeria but don't recall.
