I love megaman so much. It must be my favorite franchise.
I love how they tried different things. I love the music and how it complements the action packed gameplay. I love all the songs that were created for the animated openings. I love how the gameplay is always the focus. And when the stories are told, i love their character moments and philosophical implications that are brought up. I love all the things that fans have created over the years.
I only had one friend that was remotely interested in the series. In the internet, it was funny to find out that out of all places, Ganker was the only place i could have a good discussion about it. Somehow whatever shit Ganker was doing at the time, was it console wars, politics or trans shit nowdays, megaman threads were decent. (aside from porn posting, wich is just whatever at this point)

What series is your favorite? Mine is Star Force.
It must be the X series. I played those games most as kid and have most memories with them.
I remember already getting into megamsn, and then a new megaman spinoff star force was revealed. It was super exciting, just seeing the art and main theme playing at their site. We did not even know that it was related to battle network.
Legends here
Legends gameplay is not my favorite, but everything else is pretty superb. The characters, music, setting and story. It is fun to speculate how the zx would end up to legends after thousands of years.
Legends did have a big focus for the story. Pretty much every megaman game aftet X4 had lot of story telling but legends and bn relly focused on it.
Zero series
Seconding Star Force. Wish we got a 4th game but 3 was a great note to end on.
Mega Man i think perfectly encapsulates what video games should be. there's no fat to any of them, and even the worst in the series have something about them that's all their own. No mega man game is ever made obsolete by its successor and all of them are timeless. It's as fun today as it was (probably, I wasn't alive in the early 90's) 30 years ago, and it'll still be just as fun 30 years into the future. It's as close to perfect as a game series can feasibly be.
Yeah that is the big thing. They are pretty timeless. I know they were pumped out fast but they ended up with many quality games. Only something like X6 and X7 i can see as "bad" but even they have a lot of qualities people like, and they are not insulting or anything.
Pretty much all of the games hold up today. Platforming games have not done many major advancements other than maybe how lives and continues are handled. And i do like how there is kind of rosk and reward with megaman lives. Do you use your lifes or do you use e/sub tank to clutch the boss?

4 is a good game but I can't stand it. The level gimmicks I just found so annoying in a way the other games never were.
Gimmicks? 5 was the one with gravity, train and motorcycle stage.
the one that really sticks out to me from 4 is the level where everything goes dark periodically, oh god. But it was all the levels, not jsut that one.
Yeah that might be bright mans stage. I don't know how you got this mentality tough, there are no big gimmicks in other stages. Stage elements like dissappearing platforms and quicksand come every now and then in the other games too and they are smaller stage elements. Game like 5 is more "gimmicky" and X6 or X8 is worse example.
another one I remember is a stage where there are these grashopper robots and you have to ride them like platforms to get across this bed of spikes, that one also drove me nuts. But you're right, I don't know what it is about 4's stage elements specifically that drives me up the wall but all I can say is that they did.
4 is a bit too plain, the levels and bosses suck and the only thing it brought to the table is charge shot which isn't even worked into the level design smartly. Also, 4 fans seem obsessed with arguing over which game is the best like they have a massive chip on their shoulder, which is pretty annoying.
I've always seen it as 1-3chads vs 4-6zoomers. The former is genuine, the latter just goes 'O-OVERRATED!!! MUH BEUBEAM TRAP THAT LITERALLY NO ONE HAD TROUBLE WITH!!! MUH DOC ROBOTS GIVING YOU 16 BOSSES FOR THE PRICE OF ONE GAME BUT IT HATE IT ANYWAY!!!" I can't take them seriously.

I don't really know about "bosses sucking". Over all 5 and 6 are a lot easier games. I like 4 and 6 becauce they have at least some challenge and utilize things like slide, charge and rush adapter. I like their music, designs and weapons somewhat.
9 is superb game but i can not put it on top just becauce the gameplay was ripped from slide and charge. Protoman dpes mot change the design philosophy of stages and bosses.9 had pretty much bedt weapons in entire franchice, x2 coming close.
2 would be my favorite if not some moronic things like was it wily 2 with the crashbomb ceiling things? And metal blade was broken and othet weapons were not useful. I like 3 but doc and wily stages and bosses suck.

I can only quantify 4 and 6 as being significantly worse than its predecessor in every way that counts. 5 is not significantly worse than 4 at least which I why I hate it the least.

100% to even one of those games is nightmare. So maybe i'm not a real fan.
I think 11 was pretty fine. It is not the best but i like it more than 5 or 8. Gameplay was goid but only thing that bothered me really was the music. Some tracks were great but overall i did not like the design and instruments, too blurry and overly electronic. Also wily stages only had 1 theme, even if it was good.
What are your thoughts on MM11? I've been thinking about playing it again recently.
Mega Man is all about the romhacks and fangames currently. Did you play the colorized Rockman World yet? Been waiting for that shit since Mania was announced.
