we played the game around 2004-2005, so we got Emerald on december 2005 for christmas, I think that playing it around that time counts, also, we were from 98, everyone had a GBA SP back then
I'm from 98, everyone started on ruby or sapphire (for some reason nobody cared about firered leafgreen), and we continued with emerald and later games, almost everyone I have met from 99, started with diamond and pearl, it's weird, but it's how it is

You're zillennials, zoomies were too young for gen 3
Johto sucks. Shit mons, shit design, boring ass exploration and region, post game a bunch of unfinished hallways with 2 trainers and shit gym leader fights. Game sucks, simple as.
I prefer FR/LG because im a massive gay but yeah hoenn is great.
if you're bold you can start with the actual first gb games but they are rough and the remakes are better (in my opinion). Try FR/LG, then emerald, then either platinum OR HG/SS (doesnt matter which one you do first), then B/W. Dont really know if you should play B2/W2 after that, been a while since Its been a while since i played them. You start getting diminishing returns after that with X/Y and S/M, you should only move onto those if you are really enjoying the games. also dont force yourself if you hate them, as much as I like them its not worth wasting your time if you hate it.
>if you're bold you can start with the actual first gb games but they are rough and the remakes are better (in my opinion)
Is it worth it to play through the original versions of any of the games or should I do all remakes?
I would say no. Omega Ruby/ Alpha Sapphire aren't the worst in the series, but emerald is just better. Lets Go games are just Kanto for GOfags. the D/P remakes are dogshit.
I dropped pokemon after B2W2 but then picked it up again a year ago and played through X and Ultra Sun.
Had fun but probably not going to touch the series ever again unless I'm replaying Platinum.
>my last played game was this last night, right in that spot hatching the egg

I'm finding 2 of these online. One that adds orange islands to the game and another that used to be called "Fire Red Kai". which one are you recommending?
clover if you can deal with fakemon
radical red for features but its otherwise just harder fire red(nameless fire red is similar but less features and lower difficulty iirc)
unbound for full OC game(gaia is also good)
fire red rocket and CAWPS were interesting but I didnt finish
havent tried ROWE or emerald rogue but Ive heard positive things about them
Looks like Nameless Fire Red hasn't been updated since 2017, is it worth downloading at this point?

I skipped it back when it came out and only played through about a month ago. I guess I heard a lot of negative things about this game which made me uninterested in it for the longest time but I came out of it pleasantly surprised, it's now my second favorite pokemon game below BW2. Not having the battle frontier is a legitimate criticism of the game and it fucking sucks because of all the new mega evolutions the game let's you play with, but I still love this game because I can tell the people making it put their heart into it. There's so many small details put into it.
I like X/Y too, it git me back into pokemon after a long hiatus. I've been wanting to replay it recently, especially because I remember that fall-themed route, and it's the perfect time of year for it.
Nah, XY was peak comfy. In fact, its comfy factor was one of the only good things going for it, and when they removed it in later gens is when Pokémon lost its last shred of soul >Tfw you will never sit down on a bench at a gate, listening to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpVpWKjglTQ while browsing the PSS
agreed, gen 6 is the final point of effort, and nothing shows this better than the remakes of the gens
ORAS, for all its shortcomings, redesigned characters and added new content, while BDSP is a low effort attempt at a remake, with the only added content being some tiny rooms containing legendaries
giratina having a whole room dedicated to the distortion world when they could've just fucking HAD the distortion world says enough, i think
Subjectively speaking, it's ok to not like ORAS.
Objectively speaking, you're full of shit if you unironically believe they're the worst.
These games have: >Core Hoenn experience still holds up, isn’t bogged down by too much hand holding and cutscenes >Good visual aesthetics unlike BDSP >Complete National Dex for the time >PSS, Super Training, and Amie (OP friendship is optional) >DexNav, Phys/Spec split, and other QoL updates >Online Secret Bases and Soaring >Normal catching mechanics and abilities unlike LGPE >Things like the EXP SHARE and Set/Shift battle still had the options to toggle them >Post-game that isn't locked behind a DLC paywall like SwSh >Megas were good fuck you
All for $40
Even when you consider controversial stuff like Megas, no Battle Frontier, and the Delta Episode it's still leaps and bounds ahead of everything that came after it.
BDSP in particular was so riddled with problems upon its release that I am almost certain there's no way they could possibly fuck up a gen 5 remake even worse.
This anon has the right of it. The games had flaws, but they were fucking fantastic and soulful compared to the shit we get now. They werent quite the outright upgrades that HGSS were but they were worthy successors to Hoenn.
That's because the original Ruby and Sapphire didn't have many double battles due to not having a good AI for it. I'd wager you remember all the double battles Emerald added (ORAS are RS remakes not Emerald remakes, silly)
That might be it. I know I played through R/S maybe 5 or 7 times between the two but Emerald is definitely strongest in my mind for recency.
Also RSE bandana May >>> ORAS ribbon May
>implying the vast majority of people ever did post game stuff as kids
I remember only ever using damage dealing moves because I couldn’t comprehend using anything else. Also all my pokemon had to be male.
The funny thing is that it doesn't even matter. Did GameFreak destroy it with their smug indifference of the core playerbase in ORAS? Or did they do it with the single most incompetent remake of all time? Either way they look like retards.
yes this is in general; i've never played bdsp, last one i had the displeasure of playing was ultra sun/moon and it was barely playable, even as a supposed improvement of sun/moon
>play radical red >has all the new mons, types, moves etc on Fire Red ROM >decide to make an all "cat" team as a challenge for fun >Perrserker, the new grass starter, Pyroar, Purugly, Luxray, and Meowstic >get walled by Lt. Surge >he's got Alolan Raichu with grass knot, Mega evolved Manectric with flame burst, Pawmot that knows ice punch, mach punch, drain punch, and thunder punch, pincurchin , and Bellibolt. >Pinchurin has electric surge so the field becomes electric (50% buff to electric moves) >immediately swaps to Bellibolt which has Electromorphosis(buffs next electric move after taking dmg) >with all these buffs, he uses Parabolic Charge >even if it's not super effective, it nearly one shots everything I have >and nearly fully heals Bellibolt with every use >also it's holding a Shuca berry so the first ground type attack I use gets nerfed
I had to swap out almost my entire team to win against this fucker. My saving grace was catching a nidoran, leveling it to 31 to learn toxic spikes and then evolving it to nidoking. Toxic spikes really saved the day.
that's radical red in a nutshell. The early/mid game is hard because leaders/bosses straight up have access to better shit than you and it nosedives once you gain access to similar options. You're going to have to swap a lot of shit to reach that point
The worst part is the game knows when you have berries that reduce super effectiveness. I gave two of my pokemon passho berries because Pinchurin knew Scald, and Bellibolt knew Muddy water, and what do they do? They stop using both attacks only on the pokemon with passho berries. The fuck is the point of these items if the game works around it?
Hoenn is dogshit >Emerald makes R/S even more irrelevant than 3rd games usually do >All the fucking water routes that only give you tentacool/Wingull >most interesting/new pokemon (not even necessarily good) tied to 1-5% encounter rates in 1 or 2 routes. >Late game Emerald has you going across water routes to the water gym so you can fight the elite 4 with the water champion >No physical/special split means too many pokemon are just useless >Only way to make postgame team building not suck is to abuse item duplication >The beginning of stupid bullshit like Feebas/Milotic that only serves to make people look it up online (or at the time purchase a strategy guide)
Lust-provoking image to get your attention.
I did. You're still a retard.
They could have made the water routes less shit, yet your solution is to just bypass wild encounters entirely. So you admit it's garbage.
>water champion
only in emerald. it's steven in the other games with his steel types. >feebas evolution
yeah, that was dumb. >most interesting new pokemon have 1% encounter rate
makes sense. the coolest should be the hardest to get. >no phys special split
yeah, but it also applies to gen 1 and 2 >postgame building
yeah, it's a pain. all of a sudden the game expects you to know about natures and evs and egg moves. and it expects you to grind for bp to get some good moves and items there. >too much water with tentacool/wingull
yeah but the diving sections are cool. >emerald makes rs irrelevant
not really unless you want to do the battle frontier which you just said was annoying, or you just really want some gen 2 pokemon.
The post-game area (blanking on its name) was my favorite too. The mode where you have to pick a team of 3 from 6 random Pokemon & try to win was the best. No meta ev/moveset bs. Just you and a randomized set to pick from. Was perfect
Oh damn. I don't think I've played that one yet. It amazes me how many Pokemon TF2 maps are out there.
Saturn Valley and Booster's Tower were fucking cool too, but I only saw a single person in both combined. I wish more people joined random community server maps to dick around
should show the whole 3 routes from mauville to lilycove, they're all soul
not even particularly a gen 3 fan but there are few route connections as excellent as those, for gen 1 it'd be the routes from lavender to fuchsia, gen 2 probably from violet to azalea
Hoenn sucked. Took out most of the fun gimmicks from gen 2, introduced a bunch of lame stat randomization into party building, and the abundance of water meant constantly having to bring at least two HM slaves just get through all the side areas and dungeons.
I really miss pokémon and haven't played anything since X/Y. Can I get some good romhacks recommendations? its either that or I give scarlet a shot but idk, game still seem super broken.
>liquid crystal
FireRed hack that does Crystal and the Orange Islands on top of a shit load of other features. >crystal clear
Hack of the og Crystal, with some twists, and you can choose to start the game in Kanto or Johto. >emerald genesis
Hack that introduces QOL improvements like an RTC that functions like Gen2, mons from 4, 5, and 6 (replace the less loved among the national dex), and other areas to explore.
Liquid Crystal has the longest game time out of the aforementioned.
It sucks that development ended before they finished the Orange Islands.
This is a good choice. Wasn't expecting much but it ended up being the first Pokemon game I did a full Nuzlocke on and it was a blast. More rom hacks should have a full on Nuzlocke mode.
I beat Renegade Platinum recently and it was really fun. My Glaceon became my main special attacker because her speed was buffed and Beedrill was in my team most of the game because his buffs were fucking wild. Now I really want the creator of the hack’s current project, Aurora Crystal to come out because Renegade Platinum made me realize how much more fun HGSS can be with all the QOL shit from that game.
theres nothing wrong with having cocks in your mouth if everyone present is consenting. make love not war. his opinion is shit because its based on hate which is another word for war. be mad at people for the correct reasons please
You're right on the later point, but BF was one of the first times the Pokemon post game was worth a damn. Before that you just did a full playthrough to the elite four, or up until Red if you beat Red, then just keep resetting once you're done.
Johto didn't need a big post-game because it already had a ton of content in the main campaign. Emerald only managed to include one because R/S's main campaign was short and unremarkable.
No, really. Its campaign was boring as hell. The region's design is bland. The main villain team are some dumbass eco-terrorists. At least half the exploration is spent using Repel at sea and carrying like 6 HMs on you to get around.

Sinnoh brought back all the cool shit like a day and night cycle and its early DS gimmicks are charming as hell... well, minus the online components, where you had dumb shit like kids trying to trade starters for level 100 legendaries. And of course Game Freak did nothing to address people cheating with Action Replay.

Well, you have to remember. WiFi features were a legit innovation for handheld gaming at the time. It was a huge step up from having to buy a bunch of peripherals to interact with other people. I can't tell you how many of my friends missed out on trading in earlier gens because they didn't buy a link cable. FR/LG was the first gen to include a wireless link adapter, but its features were super primitive compared to what the DS could pull off.

Probably the same person that decided there should be multiplayer content in gen 3 that you can only do with the wireless adapters for no reason when the link cable would have worked just the same.

I like the gen 1 and 2 because of nostalgia and how simple they were so I stopped playing after gen 3 added all the bs but Hoenn does feel very comfy at least.
They should have kept the sprites over 3D environments of the DS games and improved it as such. Simple but dynamic sprites are much better than fully animated but stiff models but the 3D maps were good, better than the flat as fuck tilesets the GBA games used.
even when it was 2d you could clearly tell that pokemon was lagging behind its peers and that became more obvious with each tech jump. I don't know why people keep making excuses for a shit company
>I wish pokemon accepted its limitations and became objectively worse for no real reason except for my standards magicallly lowering when my brain sees sprites
Yes because they fucking can't do it. They will never improve under deadlines so at least if they accept sprites they can make things easier for themselves
>They will never improve under deadlines
So switching to 2D and making everything take even longer to have the same features will somehow improve the games? You're not very smart, are you?
My plan is to basically make Crystal Clear, but with a full Kanto region (making all the routes & towns the same size as they were in RBY), & add in the Sevii Islands which will include regional variants based on the first two gens of Pokemon. With optional Dark & Fairy type gyms.
I played Ruby so much that Emerald feels wrong even though it's better.
Brendan wearing bright green and orange over red and black is something my autism never got over. I have tried a few times to actually make a mod and swap the sprites but I seem to be too retarded to do that and it annoyingly wouldn't be compatible with romhacks anyways.
My main issue with ORAS was that it isn't a fully seamless map, it has those fade to blacks at the end of a screen, they could have easily worked around that
>We gaslight an entire generation of children into thinking this stupid fucking fish was on 4 tiles of a random map >We then told them them it became milotic if you gave it enough pokebloks >They believed us
well, I hated XY, ORAS, LGBT, SWSH and BDSM since they released, ORAS is the unique one that I could change my mind replaying it since RS was already good, but not having the Emerald content hurts a ton
ive never encountered glitches in my game. i dont know what youre refering to
and its okay to be disappointed at some things. but dont hate the entire game for it. i hated how the lets go games removed the entire safari zone, but i still loved those games regardless
If I'm playing a remake, I expect to build on what the original started and improve enough things to justify its existence. ORAS did nothing of the sort.
i do agree that removing things in a remake is dumb. but i just dont get super bitter about it and let it kill the entire game for me
there was removed content in the resident evil 3 remake too, but that game was still fantastic

if you remember the day of 9/11 youre a millennial
i don't remember it.
There is, but it's not used as commonly as the mainstream labels. But hopefully it will gain more traction because it's kind of dumb to have people born in 1994 be considered a completely different generation from people born in 1998
i see. but i don't really care about these labels. i'm fine with being a zoomer.
The baby boomer generation goes from 1946 to 1964. It's not that weird.
but its name has more to do with all the baby making after ww2 or something, doesn't it?
This is a total strawman. Pokemon doesn't have anything like the Zelda cycle. The series has literally gone downhill in both critical and fan reception. Scarlet and Violet were both technical dumpster, for example. People spent weeks making fun of their poor performance and frequent glitches.
SV are definitely a step up from SwSh. I feel like all it needs to be good is better graphics, MUCH, MUCH BETTER performances, for the E4/Champion not to always rigidly save their ace for last/mix up their Tera type and also for shinies to make a sound and sparkle on the overworld like in PLA.
LGPE was always going to be a divisive meme game, but ORAS was actually good and well received. I feel like there has been so much historical revisionism about the general opinion of those games.
Go to the Pokemon channel right now. What's their most viewed video of all tine? That's right, the fucking ORAS trailer, and to this day Megas are one of the only gimmicks that people still give a shit about and wanted to return.
Remember the infamous 7.8/10 review from IGN? People meme'd on it so savagely that they officially added it as a reference in Sun and Moon.
These games were LOVED by the fans for building upon the jank framework of X and Y and putting it in an actually good region. Not to mention how they added a bunch of small details to the environment and story that made them feel genuinely polished. They're the reason the expectations for the Gen 4 remakes were so high at the time.
Whenever someone complains about ORAS its always >Muh Battle Frontier >Muh Mauville and game corner >Muh story teleports >Muh Latios/Latias
What about the other 90% of the game huh?
What about the DexNav which was one of the best catching systems the series has ever had?
What about how after the legendary plotline is resolved the entire world is repopulated with NEW(old) Pokemon for you to catch?
What about all the updated characters *cough* Courtney *cough*
WHAT ABOUT WHEN YOU FUCKING FLY INTO OUTER SPACE ON THE BACK OF MEGA RAYQUAZA TO FIGHT DEOXYS!? THAT SET PIECE STILL HASN'T BEEN TOPPED TO THIS DAY!
Should they have kept the Battle Frontier? Absolutely, but when ORAS ran up against development time constraints they still gave us a great main game and serviceable post game even if it was lifted from X and Y.
Now when they face development crunch you get games that are uninspired garbage remakes like BDSP or borderline unplayable technical hot messes like SV. It was the last time they actually genuinely gave a shit and I'm tired of all the slander it gets.
This is like the time The Simpsons used Comic Book Guy to say "Worst Episode Ever" after the objectively worst episode they ever made, and they knew it. It ceases to be a coy inside joke when you're just admitting that the criticism is right.
>What about the DexNav which was one of the best catching systems the series has ever had?
Much like any modern Pokemon game, this is the only worthwhile inclusion mixed in with a pile of unwanted garbage. >WHAT ABOUT WHEN YOU FUCKING FLY INTO OUTER SPACE ON THE BACK OF MEGA RAYQUAZA TO FIGHT DEOXYS!? THAT SET PIECE STILL HASN'T BEEN TOPPED TO THIS DAY!
Grow up.
>The ENTIRE GAME is shit because they didn't include this specific version of post game content
I don't understand how people can think like this. Granted it's definitely not the only flaw ORAS has, but it's always the one that people bring up first and foremost.
The Battle Frontier is not the reason most people play Pokemon games.
The problem was the "Battle Frontier is going to be built here, goy!" They should've just ignored it entirely, but they wanted to rub it in your face how lazy they can now be. Smug fucker Masuda...
They stated that they didn't want to add the Battle Frontier because it was *really hard* and only a very small amount of people would even use that feature instead of just getting bored and moving on to a new game.
So in this case they weren't lazy, just retarded, or perhaps ahead of their time given the current state of zoomer gamers.
The statue was a dick move, but the actual decision makes sense from a developer perspective in terms of time and resources allocated.
Would you really want the Battle Frontier included it meant the rest of the game turned out as jank as Scarlet and Violet did on launch? I suppose they could have added it later as DLC, but they were already working on Sun and Moon by then.

RNG is only a factor in the Factory and Palace. Every other facility is pretty doable. A lot of it does come to the player making small mistakes that lead to losses.
Here for example for the player is using a Gyarados and a Gardevoir for the Arena. I don't know what the third party member was but he already has a pretty mediocre team. Both of them are slow, you want quick and easy KOs in the Arena. Even so he wastes a turn Calm Minding when the Walrein has already shown off how dangerous it is. I would have gone for the Thunderbolt, but I would know the match is pretty much over too.

Also wrong. This team is good because generally it works for every facility, but you can make more specialized teams that will win much more likely. Blissey for example completely cheeses the Pyramid and Pike with Natural Cure and Softboiled, keeping your team very healthy. Banded Slaking will KO like 99% of sets the game will throw at you, not a bad option for a last resort in the Arena or Tower. You want a really weird team for the Palace, I used a Suicine, Venusaur, Magneton set I found on Smogon.

Is there a hack that takes the visual style of gen 2 and put it in a gen 3 ROM? Just to not have a majority of the limitations of the GBC, like limited sprites and layering effects for weather. Bigger ROM size...
based. i know it has its bs, like how you have to trade between at least 4 different games to get all the pokemon but i still love hoenn.
but that might be due to nostalgia.
i grew up with emerald. i got it for my 7th birthday.
i used to stay up all night playing it. sometimes i would just stay in my room all day playing it.
i also used to love making new guys on it. i would get to a certain point and then just start the whole game over. not always the same point but it was fun for some reason.
i would love imagining new teams to go through the game with.
i would usually pick treecko as my starter.
i honestly don't find it fun anymore. i don't find games that much fun in general nowadays.
Not only have you grown quite a bit older since then, but the systems and formulas of Pokemon really haven't changed that much despite how many seasonal gimmicks they tack on for every new generation. Playing through the campaign of a new Pokemon is still going to feel a whole lot like the first one, except more linear and with increasingly vapid writing. Nothing wrong with being done with it all, Sw/Sh completely killed the spell Pokemon had on me ever since Red and Blue, and I don't even feel that bothered by it any more. If I have the urge to play Pokemon again, I'll go find an interesting ROM hack to play, because the people making those actually care about making compelling gameplay.
i didn't even play sw/sh it looked so watered down and all the pokemon looked dumb, especially the starters.
the fossil pokemon had a certain charm to them when looking at them in motion but i just felt sad for them.
and the overworld looked glitchy. idk if they ever fixed its problems.
and iirc the devs lied about the reason they couldn't fit more pokemon in the game. they said they didn't have enough time to make new models or something but they ended up reusing 3ds models.
and then they sold dlc to give people slowpoke.
I'm from 98, everyone started on ruby or sapphire (for some reason nobody cared about firered leafgreen), and we continued with emerald and later games, almost everyone I have met from 99, started with diamond and pearl, it's weird, but it's how it is
that is weird. but i mostly played pokemon with my siblings, but a year or so after i got emerald, none of them liked pokemon anymore so i mostly just played by myself.
we played through sun/moon together though so that was fun.

Baby boomers are a generation that actually metrically exists, unlike millennials and Gen Z which are completely arbitrary. The post-war baby boom lasted from 1946-1964. But the idea of people born in 1980 being the same as 1995 is absurd and has no reason beyond "let's make generations 15 years"

How's it arbitrary? You just look at the median age during which the previous generation had kids and use that as your cutoff point. >But the idea of people born in 1980 being the same as 1995 is absurd and has no reason beyond "let's make generations 15 years"
Statistically, a "generation" is just the span of time between a person's birth and the median age of childbearing between them and their peers. If anything, 15 years is kind of short, and we should expect generational gaps to increase as people have fewer children and have those children later on in life than previous generations.

Absolutely retarded supposition. Of anything generations have only quickened as technology and memes push culture forward and an accelerated rate. Using a meme from pre2020 today gets you outed as an internet "boomer".
I think the bigger shift was iPhones. The post-9/11 world was still recognizable as the world of the 20th century. The post-iPhone world is like another universe.

definitely a bigger cultural shift, but i think 9/11 is a better metric for giving a calendar date
Sword and Shield wasn't the glitchy, bugged up mess with a big overworld, that was Scarlet and Violet. Sw/Sh did have the national dex controversy and the excuses for cutting content, that much is correct. The constant and changing excuses, combined with the unshakable feeling that Sw/Sh was just an upscaled 3DS game being sold for 60 USD, and the Pokemon Home scam, killed it for me even before I knew how transparently linear it was, and the terribly bloated yet empty story they force on you. Then came the DLC milking the next year.
I played a lot of X/Y because I was still deep in the well of Pokemon love. Being in 3D was still novel and exciting since they were, you know, the first 3D mainline generation, so I wasn't being as critical of them as I would be now. I sunk a ton of time into random matchmaking battles in the PSS too, so I was genuinely enjoying X/Y at the time. OR/AS was when things started to crack apart for me, and it ended up being the last game in the series I ever bought. I would've considered myself retarded too if I'd actually bought Sw/Sh, but I don't have any regrets about enjoying X/Y as I did, it's probably the last time I genuinely enjoyed an official Pokemon game.

Well at least you pirated SS. We seem to be in the same boat, I gave XY a pass for the PSS, but ORAS was just the final straw.

my last good time with pokemon was sun/moon.
but i knew to stay from oras.
and i remember seeing a remake of pkmd or something and seeing the crappy walking animations and never looking into it any further? how was that btw?
zillenials or gen cuspers as it's more known are for people with identity issues. Some of them identity with the older gen and some identify with the younger. It's just a matter of their life experiences. I was born in 97 and millennial things have never appeal to me. I just dont get it.
playing pokemmo right now and stuck on juan i;m not gonna lie. currently raising up a grass team and loving the treks through hoenn frankly. nicely comfy gen.
An entire half of the map shouldn't be the same thing as Zubat cave. It was poorly conceived.
Actually no, caves are better because they have direction to them. These water routes are just giant blue featureless screens with trainers strewn about.
Aside from buying repels, ORAS turned down the encounter rate, gave you the option to use a Sharpedo, AND shrunk the size of some of them.
They're also mostly linear with rock walls fucking everywhere so you're not exactly getting lost.
They gave you so many options to deal with it it's only as big of a problem as you want it to be.
been replaying gen 3 on both my original sapphire cart and emuing a soulink for summer and man. these games are so great and cozy, esp as summer games. It feels so grand but simple too, unless you look deeper, then there's actually even more layers to the games than previously looked at before. compared to the shit games we get in modern pokemon games.
>primal kyogre and groudon
original is better >zinnia
good >ending
prefer original but its not bad by any means >leader theme
original is better >rival
original is better >deoxys
not bad >battle frontier brain
original is better
>The GBA soundchip
Agree to disagree, but thinking the originals are better is not the same thing as "ORAS music SUCKS".
At least we can settle that the actual compositions are great regardless.
discovering the regis felt like i was unburying a long forgotten secret. i don't think anything else in pokemon comes close to that feeling beside maybe missingno.
Imagine if they hadn't remove day-night cycle in gen 3.
Imagine if they hadn't remove non-underground secret bases in gen 4, and all of them past that.
Imagine if they hadn't remove mons following you after HGSS.
Imagine if they hadn't remove seasons in gen 6.
Imagine if pokemon players stopped being paypigs so Gamefreak wouldn't get away with putting zero effort into making games.
Would be nice wouldn't it?
>Imagine if they hadn't remove day-night cycle in gen 3.
Then catching pokemon would be more tedious than it needed to be like it was in gen 2 and the entire mechanic would have broken when the battery ran out >Imagine if they hadn't remove non-underground secret bases in gen 4, and all of them past that.
Can't disagree with that, a lot of things in gen 4 were a straight downgrade >Imagine if they hadn't remove mons following you after HGSS.
Several games have had that feature and it's never been worth it >Imagine if they hadn't remove seasons in gen 6.
Aesthetically nice but still useless >Imagine if pokemon players stopped being paypigs so Gamefreak wouldn't get away with putting zero effort into making games.
Then pokemon would be in a considerably worse place. >Would be nice wouldn't it?
A rendition of the main theme playing when the gym leader was down to their last pokemon and every individual gym leader having their own unique gym theme was some cool stuff too
I still remember being convinced that getting B2W2 in gen 5 meant that were were going to get an Emerald remake as Gen 5's third version and thinking about how amazing it would be.
I had no friends that wanted to play pokemon with me but I had two gameboys (one was my sister's) and a copy of ruby and emerald so what I would do was just endlessly replay ruby making characters based off people I knew with teams I thought they'd use to make secret bases around the world in my copy of emerald.
It's probably the most pathetic sad lonely kid story I can think of, but it was me.
playan this on my ambernic device. fucking love how comfy it is. everything after this and heartgold was shit. platinum is ass i dont care what anyone says.
Man I remember thinking getting all the Frontier Medals would open up more Legendary Pokemon to catch. Hell I even believed the checking the rocket launches just to go to the moon. Those days can't really comeback now can it?
Also I feel like drawing Dawn but goddamn I can't think of a good reference/pose for her.
>Those days can't really comeback now can it?
Personally I look back at all those rumors and think it's kind of sad how badly kids were coping over not being able to get event Pokemon. Shit was really a stupid concept as far as not disappointing kids goes.
Silver was my first but Emerald has always been my favourite
Cool map, amazing legendaries, cool villains with a nice twist
It's almost a perfect Pokemon game, only missing the physical/special split and a harder difficulty
Best game in the series ever. Haven’t played any other ones because they’re all just so inferior.
ok zoomer
>zoomer
>gen 3
learn your generations please
gen 3 is peak zoomer I can confirm as a zoomer, me and my zoomer friends playing RSE all the summer was pretty kino
>2003
unless you were an unbelievably small child playing it or playing it way after release no
>unbelievably small child
Who do you think is pokemon's (intended) audience
yea true i think i was like 4 when i played red or blue or whatever one i had
we played the game around 2004-2005, so we got Emerald on december 2005 for christmas, I think that playing it around that time counts, also, we were from 98, everyone had a GBA SP back then
i'm a zoomer from 99. i got into pokemon with emerald a year after its release
I'm from 98, everyone started on ruby or sapphire (for some reason nobody cared about firered leafgreen), and we continued with emerald and later games, almost everyone I have met from 99, started with diamond and pearl, it's weird, but it's how it is
im from 98, started with leafgreen>emerald>diamond>platinum>heartgold and stopped playing there
You're zillennials, zoomies were too young for gen 3
The gen just before mogged it hard
Johto sucks. Shit mons, shit design, boring ass exploration and region, post game a bunch of unfinished hallways with 2 trainers and shit gym leader fights. Game sucks, simple as.
Almost, but diamond/platinum was also at the very least on par with ruby/emerald
Same, OP.
I haven't played pkmn since Emerald (and I got like 4 badges and stopped), but the porn and lewds make me want to marathon the series.
Had fun but probably not going to touch the series ever again unless I'm replaying Platinum.
why the fuck you want to replay the worst region pre 3D then?
sinnoh is the most interesting region in the whole series you pleb. Only Hoenn even comes close
>worst region
That's Johto.
Sinnoh is up there with Hoenn as one of the best regions in the series.
he didn't say shitnova
Last non-gimmick pokemon.
gen 3 sucks
Love gen 3. So many funny and weird moments like the Dewford phrase guy and hot spring grandmas
>my last played game was this last night, right in that spot hatching the egg
Glowmorons reading brain waves watching trying to get me to slip up and lower my mental fortress egregore for the slightest fraction of a second thinkingnit can somehow intimidate me when im singlehandedly ripping chunks out of their beast system every time I smoke a little weed? %fools.
Haha, stupid boomer how can you like that.
Wrong board
Shit up your containment board, animal fucker
Not as much as you do.
>animal fucker
We’re not Digimon tards.
At least Digimon transform into humanoids. What the fuck is this shit?
Give me your best gen 3 romhack, Ganker
Fire Red +
I'm finding 2 of these online. One that adds orange islands to the game and another that used to be called "Fire Red Kai". which one are you recommending?
Looks like Nameless Fire Red hasn't been updated since 2017, is it worth downloading at this point?
emerald enhanced
gaia, I think
clover if you can deal with fakemon
radical red for features but its otherwise just harder fire red(nameless fire red is similar but less features and lower difficulty iirc)
unbound for full OC game(gaia is also good)
fire red rocket and CAWPS were interesting but I didnt finish
havent tried ROWE or emerald rogue but Ive heard positive things about them
Radical red is pretty much fakemon too since it changes types for no reason
a lot of hacks change types/stats/abilities just to get around some pokemon being too shit
Clover and Unbound are kino
omicron/zeta but it's a standalone game
Inclement Emerald
this might be my favorite ROM hack ever. The difficulty is insane. I still haven't beat it.
Quetzal for me, because of the new move tutor system, the customizable difficulty and overworld pokemons.
Posting a song from my beloved Hoenn, feel free to share yours too HoennBros
?si=27I4UZQLxfcgZ4pS
the theme for fat fucks
May gets plapped to the rhythm of this tune behind the rocks of route 114
also here's the obligatory best route theme
I mean sheesh... GOY SLOP is hottest thing in cool, am I right?
I'll do you one better
Dawn is overrated
Gen 3 has the best music
Possibly the best song in the series
god what i wouldn't give to be a drooling retard, it must be bliss
I just played through emerald for the first time since I was a kid (going to play through them all) and now I hate Hoenn.
3>4>2>5>1
3d shit is garbage
4 and 5 had 3D in them
Everything before Gen 6 was comfy as fuck.
Gen 6 and 8 are peak soulless
but or/as and x/y are two of the comfiest games in the entire pokemon library
I skipped it back when it came out and only played through about a month ago. I guess I heard a lot of negative things about this game which made me uninterested in it for the longest time but I came out of it pleasantly surprised, it's now my second favorite pokemon game below BW2. Not having the battle frontier is a legitimate criticism of the game and it fucking sucks because of all the new mega evolutions the game let's you play with, but I still love this game because I can tell the people making it put their heart into it. There's so many small details put into it.
I like X/Y too, it git me back into pokemon after a long hiatus. I've been wanting to replay it recently, especially because I remember that fall-themed route, and it's the perfect time of year for it.
these 2 really like to flirt
saph is just the best.
puffy
May was my first Pokécrush and she still is
Nah, XY was peak comfy. In fact, its comfy factor was one of the only good things going for it, and when they removed it in later gens is when Pokémon lost its last shred of soul
>Tfw you will never sit down on a bench at a gate, listening to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpVpWKjglTQ while browsing the PSS
agreed, gen 6 is the final point of effort, and nothing shows this better than the remakes of the gens
5 > 3 > 1 > 2 > 4
based, I would lower gen 5 a bit, but no overrated Johto or Sinnoh is totally based
Based, that's about my list as well. I might move gen 2 over 1 depending on how I'm feeling
and yet the gen 3 remake is somehow worse than bdsp
Subjectively speaking, it's ok to not like ORAS.
Objectively speaking, you're full of shit if you unironically believe they're the worst.
These games have:
>Core Hoenn experience still holds up, isn’t bogged down by too much hand holding and cutscenes
>Good visual aesthetics unlike BDSP
>Complete National Dex for the time
>PSS, Super Training, and Amie (OP friendship is optional)
>DexNav, Phys/Spec split, and other QoL updates
>Online Secret Bases and Soaring
>Normal catching mechanics and abilities unlike LGPE
>Things like the EXP SHARE and Set/Shift battle still had the options to toggle them
>Post-game that isn't locked behind a DLC paywall like SwSh
>Megas were good fuck you
All for $40
Even when you consider controversial stuff like Megas, no Battle Frontier, and the Delta Episode it's still leaps and bounds ahead of everything that came after it.
Found the GameFreak shill.
I didn't mind ORAS, I just hated how it seemed to cut down on duo battles which were the big thing for gen 3
Also RSE bandana May >>> ORAS ribbon May
>Things like the EXP SHARE and Set/Shift battle still had the options to toggle them
How bad have things have fallen that this even get mentioned?
I never played Emerald so I don't give a fuck about Frontier shit.
Oras is still worse for removing shit, ruining difficulty, adding free legendary, not adding any of emeralds improvements etc
BDSP also lacked a battle frontier on top of forcing a full party EXP share and making affection work the same as friendship
>implying the vast majority of people ever did post game stuff as kids
I remember only ever using damage dealing moves because I couldn’t comprehend using anything else. Also all my pokemon had to be male.
>Also all my pokemon had to be male.
I'm 30 and I still feel this way, unless the Pokemon is girly it's weird for it to be a girl.
what do you hope to gain by pretending to hold this opinion
The funny thing is that it doesn't even matter. Did GameFreak destroy it with their smug indifference of the core playerbase in ORAS? Or did they do it with the single most incompetent remake of all time? Either way they look like retards.
I am fully convinced that BDSP shills lurk these threads to try and damage control for their shitty remake.
Pros for oras:
>it's on a steroscopic 3d screen with native 3d
>3d pokemon battles with nice 3d pokemons
Cons for oras:
>it uses gamefreaks 2.5d world and 3d human models
>3d pokemon battles with shitty framerates
>weird as fuck cutscenes
Are you comparing it to BDSP or is it just in general?
yes this is in general; i've never played bdsp, last one i had the displeasure of playing was ultra sun/moon and it was barely playable, even as a supposed improvement of sun/moon
I remember staring at this in fucking disbelief when I first saw it
>play radical red
>has all the new mons, types, moves etc on Fire Red ROM
>decide to make an all "cat" team as a challenge for fun
>Perrserker, the new grass starter, Pyroar, Purugly, Luxray, and Meowstic
>get walled by Lt. Surge
>he's got Alolan Raichu with grass knot, Mega evolved Manectric with flame burst, Pawmot that knows ice punch, mach punch, drain punch, and thunder punch, pincurchin , and Bellibolt.
>Pinchurin has electric surge so the field becomes electric (50% buff to electric moves)
>immediately swaps to Bellibolt which has Electromorphosis(buffs next electric move after taking dmg)
>with all these buffs, he uses Parabolic Charge
>even if it's not super effective, it nearly one shots everything I have
>and nearly fully heals Bellibolt with every use
>also it's holding a Shuca berry so the first ground type attack I use gets nerfed
Any area to the east of mauville city is a complete shithole
Hoenn is dogshit
>Emerald makes R/S even more irrelevant than 3rd games usually do
>All the fucking water routes that only give you tentacool/Wingull
>most interesting/new pokemon (not even necessarily good) tied to 1-5% encounter rates in 1 or 2 routes.
>Late game Emerald has you going across water routes to the water gym so you can fight the elite 4 with the water champion
>No physical/special split means too many pokemon are just useless
>Only way to make postgame team building not suck is to abuse item duplication
>The beginning of stupid bullshit like Feebas/Milotic that only serves to make people look it up online (or at the time purchase a strategy guide)
Lust-provoking image to get your attention.
>muh water
stopped reading right here
buy repels
I did. You're still a retard.
They could have made the water routes less shit, yet your solution is to just bypass wild encounters entirely. So you admit it's garbage.
you're meant to dive in the water to find more pokemon
Why is it that whenever someone posts their "critiques" it's always a bunch of whining coming from a filtered fag?
dont care cant hear you over my trumpets
You arent wrong but emerald is still my favorite
Fuck yeah, that's the good shit.
Gardevoir for Smash!
>only give you tentacool/wingull
it gives 1 or 2 others occasionally, but this is the only semi-valid criticism
>water champion
only in emerald. it's steven in the other games with his steel types.
>feebas evolution
yeah, that was dumb.
>most interesting new pokemon have 1% encounter rate
makes sense. the coolest should be the hardest to get.
>no phys special split
yeah, but it also applies to gen 1 and 2
>postgame building
yeah, it's a pain. all of a sudden the game expects you to know about natures and evs and egg moves. and it expects you to grind for bp to get some good moves and items there.
>too much water with tentacool/wingull
yeah but the diving sections are cool.
>emerald makes rs irrelevant
not really unless you want to do the battle frontier which you just said was annoying, or you just really want some gen 2 pokemon.
>lust provoking image
>file deleted
ty
The post-game area (blanking on its name) was my favorite too. The mode where you have to pick a team of 3 from 6 random Pokemon & try to win was the best. No meta ev/moveset bs. Just you and a randomized set to pick from. Was perfect
soul
Someone made this into a TF2 map.
Too bad TF2 is a dead meme, now.
How can I find that? I want to at least load it up in singleplayer
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1948987107
thanks
Sauce
Oh damn. I don't think I've played that one yet. It amazes me how many Pokemon TF2 maps are out there.
Saturn Valley and Booster's Tower were fucking cool too, but I only saw a single person in both combined. I wish more people joined random community server maps to dick around
should show the whole 3 routes from mauville to lilycove, they're all soul
not even particularly a gen 3 fan but there are few route connections as excellent as those, for gen 1 it'd be the routes from lavender to fuchsia, gen 2 probably from violet to azalea
kino
especially when it rains
I would always fly there just to save so when I load up I'm there
Hoenn has the best wilderness routes in the franchise
The music, the rain & lightning, the tall grass, the bridges... I love how this route made me feel like I was really on an adventure.
based, I always go back to Emerald if I feel like playing Pokemon
Hoenn sucked. Took out most of the fun gimmicks from gen 2, introduced a bunch of lame stat randomization into party building, and the abundance of water meant constantly having to bring at least two HM slaves just get through all the side areas and dungeons.
Soul vs soulless
Nice thread, I can tell that you're a br*wn zoomer.
Your life sucks and the games you played as a child are garbage.
You just had to be there
Brendan's hat is so iconic
>Gave us the best tan girl Phoebe
>She’s a Ghost user and Barefoot as a Bonus
Yeah I’m thinking Gen 3 is pretty based
Hell yeah brother. Doesn't get nearly the amount of love she deserves
unfortunately my wife is not in the gba version of hoenn so i'm obligated to say it's not my favorite version of hoenn
I really miss pokémon and haven't played anything since X/Y. Can I get some good romhacks recommendations? its either that or I give scarlet a shot but idk, game still seem super broken.
Clover is pretty fun
Quartz if you can handle a bad translation from brazillian
>liquid crystal
FireRed hack that does Crystal and the Orange Islands on top of a shit load of other features.
>crystal clear
Hack of the og Crystal, with some twists, and you can choose to start the game in Kanto or Johto.
>emerald genesis
Hack that introduces QOL improvements like an RTC that functions like Gen2, mons from 4, 5, and 6 (replace the less loved among the national dex), and other areas to explore.
Liquid Crystal has the longest game time out of the aforementioned.
It sucks that development ended before they finished the Orange Islands.
crystal clear
Scarlet is not worth it unless you have brainworms like me. The only Switch Pokemon game worth anything is Legends: Arceus
They really should’ve been in Smash
I love these two little bros like you wouldn't believe
How come Gen 3 was the last Gen to get a Pinball Spin-off
I was a gen 2 fag for years until I played Emerald a few years ago. I really fucking loved it.
>best routes
>best legendaries (back when effort was required to obtain them)
>best cities
>can jerk off to the female MC
great games, great gen.
Emerald is the absolute peak of the series
Nah. Its post-game sucked and Hoenn's layout is crap.
Try expressing an opinion without choking on cocks for once.
theres nothing wrong with having cocks in your mouth if everyone present is consenting. make love not war. his opinion is shit because its based on hate which is another word for war. be mad at people for the correct reasons please
Get that rainbow flag out of your ass, gay.
>R/S's main campaign was unremarkable.
i think youre mixing up r/s with d/p. its okay accidents happen. i got your back
No, really. Its campaign was boring as hell. The region's design is bland. The main villain team are some dumbass eco-terrorists. At least half the exploration is spent using Repel at sea and carrying like 6 HMs on you to get around.
personally i had a lot more fun in hoenn. sinnoh is the one that felt super bland to me. i dont know, i guess we're just different people
Sinnoh brought back all the cool shit like a day and night cycle and its early DS gimmicks are charming as hell... well, minus the online components, where you had dumb shit like kids trying to trade starters for level 100 legendaries. And of course Game Freak did nothing to address people cheating with Action Replay.
the whole floaties parade in platinum was amazing, fuck whoever at game freak decided that should be locked to wifi crap
Well, you have to remember. WiFi features were a legit innovation for handheld gaming at the time. It was a huge step up from having to buy a bunch of peripherals to interact with other people. I can't tell you how many of my friends missed out on trading in earlier gens because they didn't buy a link cable. FR/LG was the first gen to include a wireless link adapter, but its features were super primitive compared to what the DS could pull off.
>fuck whoever at game freak decided that should be locked to wifi crap
Probably the same person that decided there should be multiplayer content in gen 3 that you can only do with the wireless adapters for no reason when the link cable would have worked just the same.
>ywn clone legendaries in emerald then trade them for shit on the gen 4 GTS again
take me back
?si=7Udxp9z8OYB-YSxV
probably the best victory road theme
Absolute kino.
It blows my mind that Rustboro is the only town you need to pass through a cave to reach.
How can the ferry from Lilycove get anywhere outside of Hoenn?
Black Ops 2
I like the gen 1 and 2 because of nostalgia and how simple they were so I stopped playing after gen 3 added all the bs but Hoenn does feel very comfy at least.
Pokemon ought to go back to Japan. There's still room for another region.
Not worth it, nobody cares about Northern Japan, there's nothing there.
shitnova its consequences have been a disaster for pokemon
they'll do fukushima's region when they introduce the nuclear type in 2035
I wish pokemon accepted its limitations and went back to 2D. Deadlines do not equal good 3D games
They should have kept the sprites over 3D environments of the DS games and improved it as such. Simple but dynamic sprites are much better than fully animated but stiff models but the 3D maps were good, better than the flat as fuck tilesets the GBA games used.
Never gonna happen, SV and the DP remakes made so much fucking money that there's negative chance we'll ever see a 2D Pokemon again.
even when it was 2d you could clearly tell that pokemon was lagging behind its peers and that became more obvious with each tech jump.
You're not very smart, are you?
nice of you to join us yawnfag
Please shut the fuck up 🙂
Here's what the 3D model actually looks like
I’m too lazy to fix the Gen Models…
rude :^)
One of my power fantasies is being a multi billionaire who personally commissions Game Freak to make the PERFECT 2D Pokemon game.
Johto, hoenn and kanto, day cycle, seasons, secret bases and a overworld follower that walks around with you.
My plan is to basically make Crystal Clear, but with a full Kanto region (making all the routes & towns the same size as they were in RBY), & add in the Sevii Islands which will include regional variants based on the first two gens of Pokemon. With optional Dark & Fairy type gyms.
I hate that my autism prevents me from emulating games, it just doesn't feel right unless it's on the native hardware
Leaf Green/Fire Red, Heart Gold/Soul Silver, Emerald, Platinum. Now THAT'S a series.
I love heroin. It's just the best.
you know what i like
Gen 3 had the best spin-off games too.
That was gen 4
>3 Ranger games
>Pokemon dungeon sky enough said there
>Pokepark
>Brawl
I played Ruby so much that Emerald feels wrong even though it's better.
Brendan wearing bright green and orange over red and black is something my autism never got over. I have tried a few times to actually make a mod and swap the sprites but I seem to be too retarded to do that and it annoyingly wouldn't be compatible with romhacks anyways.
>I love the GBA
Me too!
>pixelshit
just kidding, pixel art will always be kino
me too
this kinds of camera effects were pretty cool
ORAS has that low poly soul that PS1 morons clamor about, minus the wobbles, and I'm tired of people treating it otherwise
Too bad it removed content from an already content-starved gen.
I wish the forested areas in ORAS didn't look like shit because their shitty engine couldn't handle a single digit number of trees on screen.
My main issue with ORAS was that it isn't a fully seamless map, it has those fade to blacks at the end of a screen, they could have easily worked around that
Johto's better
What's with all the Gen 3 threads recently?
Captcha: RGYWTR
nostalgia hours
>We gaslight an entire generation of children into thinking this stupid fucking fish was on 4 tiles of a random map
>We then told them them it became milotic if you gave it enough pokebloks
>They believed us
that is some nice raytracing
3DS resolution is so shit that you normally wouldn't notice it, but this is just upscaled 3DS emulation when I did my doubles randomized nuzlocke
The pokemon cycle scares me. Remember when people hated ORAS and LPGE at first and now the new games are so bad that people look back at them fondly?
Imagine how bad things will be once people start to say SV are good games.
people always hate things for no reason. these games have always been really good. ive always adored the 3ds pokemon games
dragon age 2 is one of my favorite rpgs of all time and that game won the worst rpg of all time award. makes me sad
well, I hated XY, ORAS, LGBT, SWSH and BDSM since they released, ORAS is the unique one that I could change my mind replaying it since RS was already good, but not having the Emerald content hurts a ton
Shitty glitches and content removal are "no reason"?
ive never encountered glitches in my game. i dont know what youre refering to
and its okay to be disappointed at some things. but dont hate the entire game for it. i hated how the lets go games removed the entire safari zone, but i still loved those games regardless
Yeah, like the main character
>bitch can't even swim
>there was removed content in the resident evil 3 remake too, but that game was still fantastic
Both OG RE3 and Remake RE3 are mediocre games.
>OG RE3
Fuck you and your bullshit zoomer narrative.
It's good but it's the weakest of the PS1 games
I sure do love having multiple campaigns gone and replaced with randomized items and puzzle solutions instead!
Kamiya was completely right about RE3.
i thought re3 remake was a step down from the re2 remake. the dodging in re3 remake didn't seem to work very well either.
i don't remember it.
i see. but i don't really care about these labels. i'm fine with being a zoomer.
but its name has more to do with all the baby making after ww2 or something, doesn't it?
Whenever someone complains about ORAS its always
>Muh Battle Frontier
>Muh Mauville and game corner
>Muh story teleports
>Muh Latios/Latias
A reference in Sun and Moon? Sauce or screenshot pls
In the photo mode they added this as a joke.
This is like the time The Simpsons used Comic Book Guy to say "Worst Episode Ever" after the objectively worst episode they ever made, and they knew it. It ceases to be a coy inside joke when you're just admitting that the criticism is right.
What are you even trying to say, that Gamefreak is admitting, hmm, you know what? Yeah, ORAS -did- have too much water.
You're so fucking stupid.
Grow up.
>Whenever someone complains about ORAS its always
>>Muh Battle Frontier
And it will continue being fucking shit for not having it.
3DS era pokemon and everything in it was shit. Cry more.
Who cares, they just play with their phones! [laughs in Masuda]
Considering video games are a creative medium they could gave had some artistic integrity.
Battle Frontier was amazing, breathing much needed life into RS
ORAS didn't not only include it, but mocked us for wanting it.
It was the biggest fuck you Game Freak could give to the fans, and the fact that you're defending this shit is proof you're nothing but a consoomer.
Fuck off and drink gasoline. I'm done with you.
>ORAS didn't not only include it, but mocked us for wanting it.
>It was the biggest fuck you Game Freak could give to the fans
Your autism reminds me of when Donte in the beginning of DmC said "not in a million years" and DMCfags thought it was some personal attack and not a corny ass reference.
>Battle Frontier was amazing
It's an RNG hellfest where you pray the game doesn't randomly tell you to eat shit with one of it's numberous "gotcha" sets
Skill issue
>ABUH I FAILED AGAINST A CPU WHO USED GAME MECHANICS AGAINST ME
Grow up and git gud
>Get luck shitted online
>"Oh well, shit happens"
>Get luck shitted in the battle frontier
>Hours of progress down the drain
>Can't even play around the enemies because no team preview and can't change your lead
It's literally just rolling dice
and then you have to get your streak back just to be able to challenge the frontier brains again.
No, it's called your team matchup for that match was bad and you lost.
Full stop.
Cry and bitch all you want, but that's the story.
>your team matchup for that match
You have no way to play around it, you only get to bring 3 Pokemon and can't change anything about your team once you start. You can reliably win in doubles only but that doesn't even count in the oldest gens so lol
frontier strats now
People like Werster literally speedrun the entire game including every thing to do in the frontier. Outside of some bad luck cases its not rocket science.
>Dude just use Latios Metagross Swampert or your team is shit IDIOT
>This is good content
>Online? No I don't want to be forced to use the same Pokemon all the time to win
>>Dude just use Latios Metagross Swampert or your team is shit IDIOT
Sounds like you like the "idea" of the BF and not the reality, because in reality it's filled with double team bright powder and quick claw OHKO specifically to force you to lose eventually. And you as a player have no realistic way to mitigate this since again no PREVIEW
You would have a point if that Walrein didn't have both Sheer Cold AND Fissure on top of the Attract bullshit.
This is artificial difficulty specifically designed to fuck you over with rigged bullshit and the game knows it.
It also has a quick claw
It is purely a luck set for breaking streaks
>breathing much needed life into RS
>>>RS
Also I'm a consoomer? Ok retard, I haven't bought a game since Sun and Moon.
But believe whatever helps you cope.
That won't change the fact that GF has released objectively worse games and made objectively bigger Fuck Yous to the fans since ORAS.
It's justifiable to dislike how it was handled, but your seething hatred is overblown.
biggest "fuck you" to me was sw/sh.
See you get it, Dexit was an actual issue that had huge ramifications not only for the main game of SwSh but all subsequent games following it.
It makes shitting your diaper over the Battle Frontier look even more ridiculous by comparison.
>That won't change the fact that GF has released objectively worse games and made objectively bigger Fuck Yous to the fans since ORAS.
Stop talking. Or better yet stop breathing.
People like to shit on the 3DS games but they werent bad. ORAS and SM were good however USUM was dissapointing and XY were kinda shit all things considered.
>First gen to lack an identity
>Dex is overloaded with older gen pokemon
>There are no gen 6 megas so most characters use an older gen pokemon as thier ace
>Routes and towns are very bland looking and becausethe dex is so bloated that its like you are playing with a randomizer on. Theres no "you can catch vulpix or growlith" left of lavender town.
the 3ds games loaded slowly, it was especially noticeable in sun/moon with double battles.
but i still enjoyed sun and moon despite that.
Not mention Zinnia though she got somewhat hated
She also got what she deserved, and the porn was good so yeah overall a new positive.
nips where cheering for this
Meanwhile your black ass was cheering for cargo cults in Africa.
So true
Is there a hack that takes the visual style of gen 2 and put it in a gen 3 ROM? Just to not have a majority of the limitations of the GBC, like limited sprites and layering effects for weather. Bigger ROM size...
The introduction of this character was the beginning of the end for this franchise.
One of the only Pokemon games that is 60 fps.
based. i know it has its bs, like how you have to trade between at least 4 different games to get all the pokemon but i still love hoenn.
but that might be due to nostalgia.
i grew up with emerald. i got it for my 7th birthday.
i used to stay up all night playing it. sometimes i would just stay in my room all day playing it.
i also used to love making new guys on it. i would get to a certain point and then just start the whole game over. not always the same point but it was fun for some reason.
i would love imagining new teams to go through the game with.
i would usually pick treecko as my starter.
i honestly don't find it fun anymore. i don't find games that much fun in general nowadays.
If I have the urge to play Pokemon again, I'll go find an interesting ROM hack to play, because the people making those actually care about making compelling gameplay.
i didn't even play sw/sh it looked so watered down and all the pokemon looked dumb, especially the starters.
the fossil pokemon had a certain charm to them when looking at them in motion but i just felt sad for them.
and the overworld looked glitchy. idk if they ever fixed its problems.
and iirc the devs lied about the reason they couldn't fit more pokemon in the game. they said they didn't have enough time to make new models or something but they ended up reusing 3ds models.
and then they sold dlc to give people slowpoke.
that is weird. but i mostly played pokemon with my siblings, but a year or so after i got emerald, none of them liked pokemon anymore so i mostly just played by myself.
we played through sun/moon together though so that was fun.
i didn't know there was a zillennial classification. i just thought people born in the late 90's and early 2000's were zoomers.
if you remember the day of 9/11 youre a millennial
There is, but it's not used as commonly as the mainstream labels. But hopefully it will gain more traction because it's kind of dumb to have people born in 1994 be considered a completely different generation from people born in 1998
The baby boomer generation goes from 1946 to 1964. It's not that weird.
Using a meme from pre2020 today gets you outed as an internet "boomer".
they should be because of
thats a major developmental event that splits the generation more than a weird arbitrary number range
If you didn't see the writing on the wall with XY and especially ORAS, you're just retarded.
I just dont get it.
what are millennail things and zoomer things?
i don't get any of that. i just do my own thing
nta but holy shit. post your strat for each frontier facility now.
playing pokemmo right now and stuck on juan i;m not gonna lie. currently raising up a grass team and loving the treks through hoenn frankly. nicely comfy gen.
>gives the meek frail little boy this theme
There unironically is too much water
Just buy repels before leaving Lilycove.
An entire half of the map shouldn't be the same thing as Zubat cave. It was poorly conceived.
Actually no, caves are better because they have direction to them. These water routes are just giant blue featureless screens with trainers strewn about.
i liked it. it was cool exploring underwater too.
and the map being half water fits the struggle between team aqua and magma
It being 'story relevant' doesn't excuse it from being a giant fucking slog.
The fundamental problem was with RSE, if you're not getting it. Nu-Journalists only complained about ORAS because they didn't play RSE.
Please stop talking about post-BW2 mainline it doesn't exist ok
the music plays in my head just by looking at the image
wild marill appeared
>mfw I learn the trainer doesn't have cool white, spikey hair and a black bandana
which is weird because his dad does
been replaying gen 3 on both my original sapphire cart and emuing a soulink for summer and man. these games are so great and cozy, esp as summer games. It feels so grand but simple too, unless you look deeper, then there's actually even more layers to the games than previously looked at before. compared to the shit games we get in modern pokemon games.
For me, it's Polished Crystal whenever they finally release 9-bit proper.
Make a romhack where you can date the girls
Girls Hunter 1 and 2 is close
Ech.

How?
I am a Pokephile, Ganker. Somebody get me a Latias.
ORAS music SUCKS
I beg your fucking pardon?

not bad
>battle frontier brain
original is better
>The GBA soundchip
Agree to disagree, but thinking the originals are better is not the same thing as "ORAS music SUCKS".
At least we can settle that the actual compositions are great regardless.
Frontier Brain Battle Music... how?
It plays for the Battle Chatelaine fights in the post game zone.
They should make an enhanced port of Emerald and sell it for like 10 dolor. Would sell truck loads.
god pokemon games are ugly
gen 3 was the last gen with any sense of mystery to it (I'd also say gen 4, but to a lesser extent)
now, everything is spelled out before you even get to experience it. there's no secret discoveries, just a world built like a theme park
discovering the regis felt like i was unburying a long forgotten secret. i don't think anything else in pokemon comes close to that feeling beside maybe missingno.
Ironically us gen 3 fans can't shut up about the post game theme park.
>astral glyphs
ah shit forgot to remove my tripcode for Ganker my b
honestly, Ganker should remove the name and trip by default and you should have to manually set it each time you want to post with it.
what does this mean?
tripcodes should have never existed
what's wrong with them? aren't they just a way to prove you're you?
Caring that people know it's you on an anonymous lego masterbuilder forum
angela anaconda
it would prevent falseflags and people doing those mass replies because they think you're someone else.
lurk more
It all depends on the situation, no?
I mean, if I remember right Kamiya had a trip that one time he came here.
honestly, I only use it in music sharing threads so people know who they're getting critique from
I find anyone caring about the opinion of some tripfag, for whatever reason, pathetic.
what's your opinion on the music of each pokemon game?
>bleep bloop chiptune
good
>other music
bad
>astral glyphs is a gen 3 fan
Based
anyone else find the union cave music unsettling?
Gen 2 is the most sovlfvll
i remember getting silver for christmas, playing it, and seeing the exp bar on the battle screen was all I needed
I like how Azaela Towns theme has never been topped after all these years
[scoff]
route 1? or was it 2?
lavender town?
ever grande city?
petalburg?
littleroot?
wally's hometown?
>only found a few shinies in gens 2-3
>two geodudes two sentret a rattata a poliwag and a vullabee
never found one in gen 4 or 5
This shit is like over a decade old. Did we ever find out what happened next?
The last Pokemon game I played was S/M, the last one I enjoyed was ORAS despite the lack of Emerald content. Will I enjoy any of the newer games?
luv 'oenn
luv gen 2
luv disc
simple as
Wish this guy didn't stop with his gijinka series
Imagine if they hadn't remove day-night cycle in gen 3.
Imagine if they hadn't remove non-underground secret bases in gen 4, and all of them past that.
Imagine if they hadn't remove mons following you after HGSS.
Imagine if they hadn't remove seasons in gen 6.
Imagine if pokemon players stopped being paypigs so Gamefreak wouldn't get away with putting zero effort into making games.
Would be nice wouldn't it?
>Imagine if they hadn't remove day-night cycle in gen 3.
Then catching pokemon would be more tedious than it needed to be like it was in gen 2 and the entire mechanic would have broken when the battery ran out
>Imagine if they hadn't remove non-underground secret bases in gen 4, and all of them past that.
Can't disagree with that, a lot of things in gen 4 were a straight downgrade
>Imagine if they hadn't remove mons following you after HGSS.
Several games have had that feature and it's never been worth it
>Imagine if they hadn't remove seasons in gen 6.
Aesthetically nice but still useless
>Imagine if pokemon players stopped being paypigs so Gamefreak wouldn't get away with putting zero effort into making games.
Then pokemon would be in a considerably worse place.
>Would be nice wouldn't it?
A rendition of the main theme playing when the gym leader was down to their last pokemon and every individual gym leader having their own unique gym theme was some cool stuff too
?si=e-D2xuE1vFz4Vevf
I still remember being convinced that getting B2W2 in gen 5 meant that were were going to get an Emerald remake as Gen 5's third version and thinking about how amazing it would be.
Man I miss Secret Bases. Great way of making your mark in the world and having a home away from home.
Why?
report and ignore
It's over... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QrdtcfPe5hg
>ywn trade with your friends again and share secret routes and pokemons
it's over
I had no friends that wanted to play pokemon with me but I had two gameboys (one was my sister's) and a copy of ruby and emerald so what I would do was just endlessly replay ruby making characters based off people I knew with teams I thought they'd use to make secret bases around the world in my copy of emerald.
It's probably the most pathetic sad lonely kid story I can think of, but it was me.
You were a good kid. That's soulful
same
playan this on my ambernic device. fucking love how comfy it is. everything after this and heartgold was shit. platinum is ass i dont care what anyone says.
What's ur favourite pokemon? Mine is Arcanine, he's like a big fluffy dog but fire. Also has good stats.
gengar
Is it possible to feel nostalgia for something you never played and spent most of your life hating?
Because man, Gen 3 killed every inkling of enjoyment I got out of Pokémon as a kid.
what pokemon setting is the closest to tetsuo, so i can start going
KANNNNNTOOOOOOOO
TETSUUUUOOOOO
Man the DS and 3DS were such shit consoles
A GBA with 16x the pixels would've been better
Don't mind me, just posting best Hoenn girl.
roxanne having very little porn is a crime.
>Hell I even believed the checking the rocket launches just to go to the moon
Deoxys.
It was Jirachi I think. Deoxys had another event,
>Those days can't really comeback now can it?
Personally I look back at all those rumors and think it's kind of sad how badly kids were coping over not being able to get event Pokemon. Shit was really a stupid concept as far as not disappointing kids goes.
currently playing enhanced emerald, is there better rom hacks for hoenn expansions?
Silver was my first but Emerald has always been my favourite
Cool map, amazing legendaries, cool villains with a nice twist
It's almost a perfect Pokemon game, only missing the physical/special split and a harder difficulty
HG&SS Best games. No contest.
