I miss Hearthstone so much?

I miss Hearthstone so much Gankerros. Back when Whispers Of The Old Gods was the newest expansion, it was PERFECT. Had to drop it after they kept adding broken moronic cards, every single deck was a stall deck, and now there are these stupid fricking whacky extra game modes

>Tried playing Gwent
No interaction at all, you just build up your board until one of you wins. No thinking involved and every single match is the same

>Tried playing Elder Scrolls Legends
Boring slow ripoff of Hearthstone with extra gimmicks tacked on to make it seem original and don't lend themselves to the gameplay at all. Wouldn't be surprised if it was abandoned 2 months after release, haven't checked since it launched

>Tried playing this WWII card game called Kards
Way way way too many ways to build a deck, never know what to add, most decks end up feeling the same anyways, playbase is low as frick so they pad it out with braindead bots

>Tired playing that League Of Legends card game
Every faction only had like 1 deck you could really do and the balance was terrible, also it's League Of Legends

>Tried playing Yugioh
Matches literally last for 2 or 3 turns, game moves way too fast and it basically just boils down to who had a better opening hand

I NEED A GOOD CARD GAME, I HAVEN'T PLAYED A GOOD CARD GAME SINCE 2017

Magic is a great game. In theory. In practice most format's metas are pretty shitty and a whole hell of a lot of players are c**ts who are no fun to play with.

Also, draft in Arena is too fricking expensive. If you don't care about the rewards and just want to play because you like draft then you're shit out of luck.

      Anonymous

I've shied away from Magic because I only ever hear horror stories about super broken decks or horrible metas and every Magic player I've talked to is either a onions Melvin or a complete c**t

Also I hate draft modes, they're entirely based on luck

        >super broken decks or horrible metas
Worth noting that people only complain about particular formats in this context. You aren't going to see anyone complaining that commander/EDH meta is fricked up since that wouldn't make any sense. It's a very popular format and it's singleton, meaning that you only have one copy of each card besides basic lands, so variance in games is high and you see a lot of unique decks. Similarly, pauper which only includes common cards, or any other 'for fun' format.

Also, Magic draft has a lot more strategy involved in it than Hearthstone. By a couple of orders of magnitude. Although, you don't play with players in your pod in Arena, which makes it a little more meta-gamey.

Arena has commander. It runs more gimmicky stuff as limited time events.

The cards you get to start with are extremely bare bones though. It's free to play so eventually you can grind enough rares for a good deck, but that'll take months and months unless you play a lot of limited.

YuGiOh actually is super fun with lower tier decks, the issue is all the higher tier decks essentially all have the same plan and the only thing that changes are the archetypal cards they use but the playstyle is the same: don't let your opponent play the game. It's only going to get worse in the next set. Konami literally made a card that LOCKS PEOPLE OUT OF THIER ZONES so they literally cannot play the game and it's part of a tier 0 deck

All card games basically start out pretty great and then get bad very quickly. The devs design the core sets well with relatively methodical gameplay. Adding new mechanics always ends up fricking everything up.

The problem with digital card games is that you can't really take advantage of the design space because there is only so much you can add to the original UI. So the only thing you can add is keywords but that's pretty boring.

Of course, I still loved my Naxx deathrattle hunter deck and it was fun as frick, but there were lots of cancerous shit even back then.
    >everyone running Loatheb
    >every other person running Kel'Thuzad that rez your ENTIRE board every turn (absolute aids)
    >everyone running Thaurissan in every deck
    >everyone running zoo warlock
    >4 mana 7/7 + eternal sentinel that removes all your overload manas to go with it
    >Yogg'Saron + Servant of Yogg
    >Cabalist Tome
    >Call of the Wild
The only real fun stuff we got out of that expac were the Old Gods cards that weren't Yogg, that dogshit warrior weapon that was like 2/2 and cost 5 mana then returned in your inv, Renounce Darkness and Shadowcaster, blood of the ancient one.

      >everyone running Loatheb
Well designed card that required proper timing to use, because otherwise you were just playing a 5/5 do nothing.
      >every other person running Kel'Thuzad
Maybe at rank 20. It wasn't a good card.
      >everyone running Thaurissan in every deck
      No, but fun combo stuff
      >eternal sentinel
      Literally no one ran this.
      >Yogg'Saron
A fun hail mary to try to salvage a game you've lost at the cost of 1 card in your deck.
      >Servant of Yogg
Literally no one ran this and you had to be moronic to even pick it in arena, because it would just fireball itself in the face.
      >Cabalist Tome
A garbage card in every deck except quest mage which was a garbage deck. I played it to legend but it was not a good deck, and the 36% win rate it had overall speaks for that.

Here's a hard pill to swallow, card games are fundamentally and inherently bad games. The very foundation of having to play the game with a randomly shuffled deck against an opponent also using a randomly shuffled deck means that RNG is going to regularly play a massive part in every game where your own personal skill as a player is at best offsetting bad luck rather than truly winning the game based on skill alone. And if it's a collectible card game, which most of them are, it's also going to make the game inherently super pay-to-win, having the best cards will usually wind up being not just beneficial but completely necessary if you want to have any hopes of winning once the game has an established community. If you refuse to pay, then you're going to be spending huge amounts of time grinding, until it's basically a second job. A second job that pays you a pittance of cards with your only working so hard to get so that games stop constantly feeling horrible to play and instead only feel horrible to play 50% of the time.

It's just not worth it. Not at any level. Card games are the worst parts of gambling and gacha mixed together. They aren't games, they're predatory psychological tricks designed to make you think you're having fun at first, but then you gradually have less and less fun and the only way to keep having fun is to grind or pay.

Runeterra is the best one on the market - real f2p and very generous in cards, great art and presentation, some fun archetypes and a decent single-player mode.
But the genre is inherently kinda lame and always falls to powercreep eventually just by its design.

When I play card games I like getting engrossed in the meta and learning all the decks and shit. Card games are the best for high level play imo because you're not relying on teammates or quick reflexes and shit, it's all you and your knowledge of the state of the game. I got up to like rank 2 or 3 when I was still playing Hearthstone and that was in the awful stall deck meta

I haven't played for a few months but I never got to high enough ranks for the meta to really be an issue.

also bear in mind there is a good element of player skill in this game at high levels since the game mechanics allow for a decent amount of bluffing potential and getting a read on your opponent's hand by what they did or didn't play in reaction to you

I don’t play any card games anymore and I’ve never been happier with my life. Shit is too infuriating.

I used to play Hearthstone at relatively high levels and I'm shit at every other game I play so what I mainly miss I guess is feeling like I'm good at a game. I don't want to try and get high level in games where I'm leaning on my team, I'm only as good as my worst teammate. I don't want to play games that require lightning fast reflexes because my brain was taken out of my head and soaked in Fanta Orange for 10 minutes when I was a baby and it's hindered me ever since

        its fine, honestly.
there a lot of newbies and the high rank people are in their own leage.

the leage is segmented into 6 divisions
        25-20 - beginner zone
        20-15 - bronze
        15-10 - silver
        10-5 - gold
        5-0 - diamond
        0 - s rank

You rant drop down to a lower division once you reached a milestone.
