I really love having my old consoles, but I really honestly prefer emulation for the practicality and control.

I really love having my old consoles, but I really honestly prefer emulation for the practicality and control. I'm feeling kind of guilty about holding onto them while they collect dust, should I just sell them or do something instead?

I think about this a lot as well. I play emulators more now just because it's easy and I don't value the difference much at all. I have this huge wall of games I've collected over my life though. Part of me wants to sell them to people who will play them, part of me doesn't want to bother because it will be a lot of work and I don't need the money, part of me is simply attached to it. I've collected these over my whole life.

    Eh. Oh well.

If they're collecting dust why keep them?

      Anonymous

If you're really this concerned then either validate your collection by playing them over emulation or just sell them.

Yeah just skip the middleman and collect the dust yourself.

I'm in the same position. I think the best thing to do is to at least display them somehow. I know people here will probably call you "reddit" for doing that, but if you want to keep them then it makes more sense to use them as a display piece than to just leave them lying around or boxed up. Also the fact it's a display piece should mean you should stop it collecting dust.

just remember, things are only material. things can be sold, broken or stolen. eventually everything will fade. memories are the only thing that matters.

they don't. thoughts become thought forms and thought forms are never destroyed.

They certainly do. I don't remember anything from my vb macro programming days and I worked with that for 2 years.

just because you dont remember it doesnt mean the memory has stopped existing. random things trigger decades-old, "forgotten" memories all the time. also, you dont know what thought forms are.

Memories are constantly being overwritten with your memory of the memory. You can say something like those memories contributed to the substance of who you are today, but a memory is inherently fleeting

Sorry but you are a victim of western science propaganda. Sure our bodies are frail and dying but these are just devices to act between this plane of existence and the other one. If you don't understand the multi-dimensional reality of it all I suppose you should try to find out on your own. We all have the same tools at our disposal to do it but so few ever really does it. And I'm not talking about watching some youtube video or reading a "book" but finding out on your own. homosexual.

I am in the same boat. I got some rare games over the years and while I like to play on occasion; I dont devote not even a fraction of time to them anymore. They just collect dust. If I wanna play I just use emu.

I have sentimentality because my mom got to where she would help me collect when I was a teen. It was fun. Shes not here anymore, but I just want more space.

Prices will only continue to go up, so as long as you can hold them they will at the very least maintain value.

I sold off my collection as I wanted to buy sonthing very frivolous and couldn’t justify spending thousands on it without sonthing in return. I haven’t regretted my choice

I agree that shit isn't always super-reliable but it was in the Stone Age. and electronics got a lot better over time. When have you ever seen a PS1 or N64 shit the bed like that? I know Jerry Pournelle was complaining about the inadequate reliability of personal computer hardware in the early 80s, when the stuff was brand new.

Don't sell them, future you is going to regret it when they cost more and harder to find in your desired conditions. Just make sure they're stored properly so they won't get damaged. You put money onto those things.

I plan on keeping my games til I die. So when I finally do there be these old antiques sitting there waiting for whoever. dont care if it doesnt work out that way once im dead i'll be dead.
so its worked out ok so far. And im still trying to collect games for systems like on the PS2 and xbox and old systems still. Id play my ps2 if I had a working ps2 atm. piles of games sitting waiting to be enjoyed again including a ton of rpgs and stuff.

I don't regret going full minimalist and selling all my shit a decade ago for Bitcoin instead. Having the ability to play all my games on any computer emancipated me from all that plastic and brought me sweet gains.

If you think they are a burden then get rid of them.
If you think you should keep them I advice you to find out what are the probable reasons for expiration for each unit and take care of the potential issues. You wouldn't want to have a leaky battery when you finally auction them off to get money...
