It is, but it really needs the virtual arsenal and a proper editor. The lack of content hurts, but in time mods can sorta fix that. They cannot make up for for fundamental game mechanics such as the aforementioned virtual arsenal though.
I remember being a kid playing the first level of some fricking Vietnam War game. Game was legitimately terrifying. I forgot the name but you start out just playing catch with your bros. Then shortly after you are on patrol and get ambushed. I literally never even beat the second level. Way too young for it.
I miss these ARMA 1+2 Coop weed and beer hangouts from back in the day. The unstable servers not that much.
What comes close to this kind of feeling today, anon?
>decide to replay the game >have a blast >get to that mission where you have a command over 4 Abrams tanks and go through the valley filled with enemy armor

Also, wasn't there a mission where you attack a village and then have to fall back, just for your rescue chopper to get shot down? I remember that happening somewhere at the beginning of the game, but there was no such mission for me.
>Also, wasn't there a mission where you attack a village and then have to fall back, just for your rescue chopper to get shot down?
Yeah and then you have to get to the evac point alone and surrounded by Russians, it's one of OFP's most iconic missions
Kino sound track. I rememeber playing this game back then as a kid. It was freakin hard but didnt stop me from trying and had my older siblings help me out but just enough for me to enjoy. Even on christmas it had its own easter eggs turning all trees into christmas.

Truly lightning in a bottle. Modern Arma (even the Operation Flashpoint remake thing) can never compare.
One time back in the A2OA days i wanted to figure out what it takes to blow up a gas station. After shoting it with small calibre and stepping my game up to satchel charges i´ve found out that they fricked up the sound volume for this explosion. Everyone, everywhere on the map was hearing that explosion at max volume with screaching speakers or even better, headsets. VOIP had dogs barking and children crying.
This was the day i´ve took the demolitions route..
I think its fun and its not that far future unless youre some subhuman russian for whom thermals are a thing one in 20 tanks gets and gps is some magic device your aircraft dont come with as standard.
I'm that "subhuman russian" who made this thread and I was making custom OFP scenarios, sharing them with my friend and on international forums using dial-up before you were born. It was very fun and soulful.

The devs chickened out and caved like little b***hes to the tactitard 'muh realismz' nerds. We could've had some much cool experimental tech in the game. Stuff that was already being tested IRL and stuff that BI added to the game later on anyway via feature updates with the DLCs.
>even the Operation Flashpoint remake
You can't steal the Hind you're supposed to blow up in the Gastovski mission. 0/10 uninstalled right then and there.
This was the best part of it. >hey you need to infiltrate and destroy this and that >ok... >get into a chopper >fly low enough to not get nuked by shilkas >blow the entire base and kill everyone >land the chopper >put some C4 in it and blow it >mission acomplished guys, lets go back home
Same with the mission when you are captured in kolgief, you are transported on a chopper that you can steal if you turn arround as soon as you land because the rotors are still rolling and you can take off in nothing and escape right away in it wich kinda breaks the mission because then you have to land and then does the transition to the night in the exact same spot despite landing on the nato controlled base.
Also if you were lucky and managed to steal a shilka, you were basically a god because that fricking thing was OP against anything.
I remember that I always stole the cobra in the last mission that you are supposed to call in as support. I never completed that mission any other way, there is too much armor and shit guarding that scud launcher.
Also was in the base of a mountain so it has only one way to face them
t. spent hours trying to find a way from behind and crawling through that mountain to suddently have everyone in my face and getting blasted.
For me the hardest one was with james when you need to get into the house of "the dentist" at night to get some info, even with the make the game go faster thing, had to crawl almost all the way to not get spotted.
>I'd love to play again with modern graphics?
Not him but there were remakes of the campaigns for Arma 2 and 3, they're called Cold War Rearmed
And there's the new Arma Reforger but it's in EA with multiplayer only and only 1 island afaik
>What remake?
I think he is refering to the Reforger, which isn't a remake, it's not even a GAME really, but it does use remade environments and settings from old OPF as part of the sim testbed.
But yeah - it's absolutely not a remake. It's a weird paid engine test. It does not have any singleplayer components either. Not worth even considering buying that unless you are crazy, CRAZY dedicated supporter, or a modder than wants to get an early experience with the toosets that may or may not be used in eventual ARMA 4.
>one moment you're in a truck with the squad being weirded out about That Guy obsessing over his M16 >the next they're all dead fricking dead man and you're alone in a forest with hostiles looking for you
Operation Flashpoint's single player campaigns were good stuff, and I will never pretend otherwise.
Turn down accuracy and difficulty then.
I managed to sneak up on a t55 and a whole squad in arma 3 today in broad daylight and take out the tank before anyone knew what was up.
I also managed to evade tons of patrols across an open field in the global mob dlc.
Git gud this isnt ubishit garbage where ai are dead and blind and dumb cause the players are moronic. If you can see ai, they have a good chance of seeing you too.
This isnt moronic squad or insurgency where you go gung ho, talk how big your shit was this morning and tell other men how big your wiener is while you rush in headfirst.
This is arma. You spot them, call in arty or airstrike and mop up the stragglers

God I remember listening to Flaspoint sountrack CD at home. I'm not sure if there was a CD version of the soundtrack bundled with the game, or if it was one of those drives that worked as a regular music CD's when played, or if we somehow extracted the music from it and burned it down, but I remember putting the it into the old CD player and listening to it whole day.
I remember playing OFP when I was younger and had no idea what I was doing. Ended up driving around in a jeep until I hit a building too hard so the jeep wouldn't work. Stepped out of the vehicle only to find that my legs were broken or something so I couldn't stand.
I ended up crawling for probably 10 minutes before the enemy caught up and executed me.
This may sound a bit disconnected but I figured - who else would know here on Ganker than people who actually played good old Flaspoint games:
Does anyone here have experience with running Vietcong on modern hardware?
I recently tried to play it after few years, and with all the patching (up to 1.6) and the proper launcher, the game is BEYOND buggy and broken - biggest issues being A.I. pathfinding completely spazzing out, and enemies freezing upon death - literally the battlefield is littered with vietcong dudes just standing upright or kneeling down, frozen in the exact last state they were before dying.
On top of that, I think there is something wrong with movement - I know it's clunky but the sheer amount of weird moments of being stuck temporarily on everything is just beyond what I remember from playing the game some 6 years ago.
I tried uninstall and re-install of the patches, but it didn't help. And I can't find any useful resources on it.
So, any good old fashion Vietcong vets with any ideas?
>Are you using the VCStarter launcher as well as the patches?
Yeah, unfortunately I am.
I've scoured the internet to find possible solutions, downloaded both the patches and the launcher from two separate sources, even fricking explored ancient czech Vietcong fansites for any possible solutions, but in vain.
One thing that I haven't tried yet is running a clean re-install, then applying the patches one by one and trying the game running with each, seeing if maybe somehow, older patch does not solve the issue, but I'm not sure if I even have the patience for that.
VC Starter should get it running in windows 7/8/10. The game is kinda clunky when it runs properly with enemies able to shoot you from hard to see weird positions. So honestly it's not that easy to judge if it's unfricked but I managed to run the campaign through a couple levels before I got sick of it.
>Will Refunder bankrupt BI or will they be able to deliver?

Bohemia Interactive simulations is owned by BAE Systems, yes while BI is privately sold company, in which Tencent bought a seat. They share no technology nor do they share parent company. It's publicly available information.

You are an absolute fricking drooling mongoloid. How the everloving FRICK did you not realize that not only Bohemia Interactive is a trademarked name that even if BI itself didn't enforce, both Czech and Australian customer protection laws would STILL fricking not allow to use as it's misleading, they also even literally share the same exact fricking LOGO.
BISim is commanded by BOHEMIA INVEST ONE LTD which is part of Bohemia Interactive Studio which itself is the larger legal holder of Bohemia Interactive ltd. Bohemia invest also owns EVO Czech, another software developer under this larger unit.
BAE is fricking investor and primary partner of BISim, not an owner, and you really need to stop talking about shit you don't understand.
>Is this why Arma 3 was complete garbage?
Partially. Many of the best developers left BI before ArmA2 development, and few of them are now in Warhorse Studios (Kingdom Come). Developers that went away from BI into BIS making VBS4 were not necessarilly great "game" developers. Just good programmers.
>Developers that went away from BI into BIS making
BIS is Bohemia Interactive SOFTWORKS, a company that roofs both companies. What you are talking about is BISim, which is an offshoot of BIS and sister/partner company to BI.

ONE that source denies your fricking claim (this source claims that it is owned by Riverside Company, you claimed BAE just a moment ago), and TWO, I have literally given you a legal registration data that BISim is obligated by LAW to provide to Czech Government.
So unless you are telling me this company, which is registred as part of arms fricking buisiness in Czech Republic - is getting away with completely lying about their ownership and all other registration data, I call your source bullshit. Especially when we consider - once again - that BOTH COMPANIES USE THE SAME TRADEMARKED FRICKING NAME AND FRICKING LOGO.

I wish I spent more time actually making my own scenarios. Most of the time I would just see how massive I can make a battle before my computer crashed.
modding OFP was a complete mess dur to the internal engine being written in czech, with barely any sdk's, just fan made stuff. Oxygen 2 Light is a terrible 3D editor, .pac / .paa internal textures were awefull, .ccp config files from some mods were a complete mess and so on. back in the day downloaded 4GB of mods and didnt even try half of them, still made some unique stuff and posted on ofpec
I spent hundreds if not thousands of hours just playing the OFP editor just to make cool single player missions for myself and posing units for screenshots. My modfolders were huge, and computer was screaming in pain back in 2005. OFP made me immune to framerate circlejerks in Ganker thanks to the good solid 17fps I would get in my most modded missions.
Common sense dictates I would jizz my pants in Arma2 and Arma3 editor, but it just feels like a slog, unresponsive and clunky and I spent maybe ten hours in them.
Anyone remember Chernarus Life mod for ARMA 2? >create a gang >gather drugs >sell >build a frickhuge base in an ideal spot with wide open approaches so no sneaky shit >angled walls you can peek shot over with 3rd person to pick off vehicles >some gay gets his hands on an a-10 or su-25 in a hard level mission >bombs your base to dust
It was really enjoyable trying to be a terrorist and planting car bombs near the spawn and waiting until cops come along. Alternatively playing detective to see which c**ts are criminals.
hated shilkas so much it's unreal, there was some weird bug that everytime they fired gave me a BSOD, after many reseach was something related to Creative SB cards
Since they were intended to use in AA stuff they had a very long range (you see this in this missoin
was piloting a thing in OFP mp?
but also when you steal a chopper and start to fly to high, like the one i mentioned in the one with james when you need to destroy a base in malden), but they never felt shame to shoot anything on the ground.
Add that the ammo is explosive and you have a little frick OP against anything, you just needed to be lucky to survive, for 4 (the law guy in your squad) to die first and still have at least one law to shoot that fricker and pray that you could complete the rest of the mission wich what you have left.
>that mission where if you just played along with the cues you get taken away and executed, so you must try to escape the enemy camp before that, and reach some resistance holdout >its night >no gear except a compass, and whatever you can steal >only directions to a resistance camp you get involve navigating by the stars
Kino beyond measure
This game has the weirdest setting I've ever seen in a video game
I think it is terrain detail? I believe it is a slider, that just makes the actual geometry of the ground bumpier the higher you drag it
This has a direct impact on any and all movement; put it high enough and vehicle AI shits itself, and all soliders are constantly forced to prone
correct, terrain display would change how roads and bridges would display, glitched, warped and so on, most pc's at the time couldnt handle the "ultra" settings
correct, terrain display would change how roads and bridges would display, glitched, warped and so on, most pc's at the time couldnt handle the "ultra" settings
>try to replay this game from time to time >always get filtered by how the mouse feels
Anyone know how to make the mouse in this game not feel awful on modern PCs? It's been a while since my last attempt but I think I remember it just being way too sensitive no matter what my settings were, along with it also feeling like my movements were locked into some kind of grid or something where it was really hard to move my mouse diagonally. But I don't remember for sure, I just remember that it felt fricked, not exactly how it was fricked.
only oldgays will remember that you have to move the mouse to the upper left corner upon starting the game or you'd have double cursor, somehow that "trait" was maintained in future games....
also, surprising details in the game, depending the time of day, and month, position of the stars are realistic, even withouth a compass you could always tell was north was at night looking at the big dipper. Oh and tides, high tide and low tide
Please please please PLEASE have raytraced lighting for arma 4s interiors. The reforger ones are decent now that they fixed light bleeding, but its time to take it to the next level.

Bohemia Interactive simulations is owned by BAE Systems, yes while BI is privately sold company, in which Tencent bought a seat. They share no technology nor do they share parent company. It's publicly available information.
>Bohemia Interactive simulations is owned by BAE Systems,
https://rejstrik-firem.kurzy.cz/28476506/bohemia-interactive-simulations-k-s/
>Developers that went away from BI into BIS making
BIS is Bohemia Interactive SOFTWORKS, a company that roofs both companies. What you are talking about is BISim, which is an offshoot of BIS and sister/partner company to BI.
You can't even get the FRICKING NAMES RIGHT you mong.
>and you really need to stop talking about shit you don't understand.
https://bisimulations.com/company/news/press-releases/bisim-statement-investment-former-owner
lmao, you're the one that don't understand shit, BISim is not owned by BIS anymore, deal with it
ONE that source denies your fricking claim (this source claims that it is owned by Riverside Company, you claimed BAE just a moment ago), and TWO, I have literally given you a legal registration data that BISim is obligated by LAW to provide to Czech Government.
You legit have a brain issue.
Last financial statement on your stupid dog language website is from 2019, go dial 8
>troonie can't read
riverside company link is dated from 2021, BAE brought the company in 2022, acquisition means complete ownership of the company.
dilate and take your meds schizo
>BAE is fricking investor and primary partner of BISim
"7 Mar 2022
BAE Systems today announced that it has completed the acquisition of Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) for $200 million, subject to customary closing adjustments.
BAE Systems completes acquisition of Bohemia Interactive Simulations
BISim joins BAE Systems as a wholly-owned subsidiary, bringing global software development and advanced military simulation and training solutions to the company’s growing digital transformation portfolio."

Go pitch your outdated websites to someone else. Fricking moron, I bet you are the one troon on Steam who goes in every single thread to suck off BI saying how great Refunder actually is. Dilate.
Arma 3 was stuck in dev hell for ages. Development finally going somewhere again with a new project lead and then two devs got arrested in greece lol.
Common sense dictates I would jizz my pants in Arma2 and Arma3 editor, but it just feels like a slog, unresponsive and clunky and I spent maybe ten hours in them.
same, gave 10 years of life to that game but had to let it go, the scripting was amazing and all the possibilities
Same, OFP editor blew my mind
Load up editor
spawn 200 planes
test
>Armaholic is still ded
Anyone remember Chernarus Life mod for ARMA 2?
>create a gang
>gather drugs
>sell
>build a frickhuge base in an ideal spot with wide open approaches so no sneaky shit
>angled walls you can peek shot over with 3rd person to pick off vehicles
>some gay gets his hands on an a-10 or su-25 in a hard level mission
>bombs your base to dust
Ahh, good times
Now we have garbage like DAYZ standalone
wasn't much into the life mod or DayZ, i only played missions with a group or played Dominations / Evolutions on public servers
Only played Sahrani Life in Arma.
It was really enjoyable trying to be a terrorist and planting car bombs near the spawn and waiting until cops come along. Alternatively playing detective to see which c**ts are criminals.
look awefull at 1080p, LOD's were a great idea for the standards of the time but not today
some modding
based desert island
best map to try stuff out lol
It really was. Rahmdi and Utes had nothing on it, though Arma 2's Desert came close.
This is the best thread in 2023 in Ganker
The Avon Lady OFP FAQ was the bible, glad i have it archived

ENEMY. MAN. 400 METERS. FRONT.
ENEMY. SHILKA. 3 O'CLOCK.
hated shilkas so much it's unreal, there was some weird bug that everytime they fired gave me a BSOD, after many reseach was something related to Creative SB cards
Whenever I heard that Shilka was spotted my heart sank a little. I was really afraid of them.
I wonder if this was a game balance issue or if they were genuinely beasts like that
Since they were intended to use in AA stuff they had a very long range (you see this in this missoin
but also when you steal a chopper and start to fly to high, like the one i mentioned in the one with james when you need to destroy a base in malden), but they never felt shame to shoot anything on the ground.
Add that the ammo is explosive and you have a little frick OP against anything, you just needed to be lucky to survive, for 4 (the law guy in your squad) to die first and still have at least one law to shoot that fricker and pray that you could complete the rest of the mission wich what you have left.
I beat the ARMA Gold campaign last week. I never played that one before, it's pretty good.
>it's been almost 10 years since I operated with /a3g/ during arma 3's alpha/beta
I miss you guys. I hope you're doing alright.
BMP
And all I got is this one LAW and M113 can't do jackshit
>After Montignac
No other game has ever given a similar feel
Best feeling was stealing the Hind in that POW mission.
BEEE EMMMM PEEEEE IZ HISTORY!
>tfw I said this to myself when watching footage of russian BMPs get BTFO in ukraine
I would bet that the best of the fricks in there are that good because of this games...
cant save scum irl though
>that mission where if you just played along with the cues you get taken away and executed, so you must try to escape the enemy camp before that, and reach some resistance holdout
>its night
>no gear except a compass, and whatever you can steal
>only directions to a resistance camp you get involve navigating by the stars
Kino beyond measure
This basically sums up why my boomer ass loves reforger despite its flaws
FORM LINE
This game has the weirdest setting I've ever seen in a video game
I think it is terrain detail? I believe it is a slider, that just makes the actual geometry of the ground bumpier the higher you drag it
This has a direct impact on any and all movement; put it high enough and vehicle AI shits itself, and all soliders are constantly forced to prone
correct, terrain display would change how roads and bridges would display, glitched, warped and so on, most pc's at the time couldnt handle the "ultra" settings
forgot pic
?t=320
>WHERE ARE YOU
>no option to tell them your position
There is actually a "reply" command, it's context sensitive as well so if you kill a designated target it gets reported to the SL
>try to replay this game from time to time
>always get filtered by how the mouse feels
Anyone know how to make the mouse in this game not feel awful on modern PCs? It's been a while since my last attempt but I think I remember it just being way too sensitive no matter what my settings were, along with it also feeling like my movements were locked into some kind of grid or something where it was really hard to move my mouse diagonally. But I don't remember for sure, I just remember that it felt fricked, not exactly how it was fricked.
only oldgays will remember that you have to move the mouse to the upper left corner upon starting the game or you'd have double cursor, somehow that "trait" was maintained in future games....
You need to cap the framerate (i recommend rtss)
Mouse movement is polled every frame so having a high variable framerate that was impossible in 2001 completely fricks it.
Could be too high fps or something
BAS Tonal
BAS was great. Their releases were always major hype with those prodigy tunes.
great creation the High Dispersion ammo, AI in the game are literal aimbots that even fire through walls
Yeah JAM HD weapons were a must
also, surprising details in the game, depending the time of day, and month, position of the stars are realistic, even withouth a compass you could always tell was north was at night looking at the big dipper. Oh and tides, high tide and low tide
Some of the trees have decorations if you play on christmas day
Any tankers here? Checking out the interiors during a lull in the fighting fighting was peak comfy.
Please please please PLEASE have raytraced lighting for arma 4s interiors. The reforger ones are decent now that they fixed light bleeding, but its time to take it to the next level.
