I started playing November of last year, but I dropped it the second I got through ShadowBringer's and made it off the boat in Sharlian for Endwalker.
I plowed through the story and just really wanted to take a break. Did I miss out on anything? Could I start it back up and pick up right where I left off?
When I quit, it felt like I had done nothing but story content for hundreds of hours in the hopes of getting to the actual multiplayer parts of the game. When I got to Endwalker, I just had no motivation to continue after the emotional rollercoaster that was ShadowBringer's patch quests.

Are you guys moronic or just lying? You unlock Sastasha at level 15 which is like one hour into the game if you're not an ESL moron. Then at 17 you unlock Deep Dungeon which is arguably the most fun multiplayer in the game if you have 3 buddies with you.
i usually have pretty good luck just asking my guild chat if anyone wants to do some old content. by old content i'm talking about legacy raids and stuff like the coils. you can get away with some pretty small groups for some of them if you unlock level caps etc. Lots of people will do them just for fun or for nostalgia's sake. matchmaking will take care of any smaller dungeons since people run them for dailies all the time. you unlock the pvp hub pretty early on as well
Each expansion has lots of multiplayer stuff, raids and other content with later expansions having more activities but they also have like a hundred hours of MSQ each.
Assuming you just finished base ARR meaning haven't started any of the patch content you are barely a double digit percentage into the game.
FF14 is like an anti mmo, mmo. It has one of the worst user interfaces in gaming and only autistic people dive into it.
It's only saving grace is it's well written stories and locale.
There is so much singleplayer/solo shit that it's genuinely not worth it and there are better MMOs out there for playing with friends.

Biggest issue with the monk change is that you can't use fist of wind to move at Ninja speed in cities.
The monk changes were great, it was the ShB gutting that people hated. The only problem with current monk is that they STILL haven't fixed brotherhood and that you need alexander to play it well in high end content.

because of kaiten samurai needed to have lower then average damage on literally everything it did besides its big finishers, which means that your damage could varry heavily with crits which is a real shame when damage is literally all you're offering. them making the finishers automatic crits was their attempt to make the damage more consistent but now that they force crit unless they make the potency low as frick kaiten would make the damage way too fricking high and be OP, so they're more or less compelled to remove kaiten and then also in the exact same patch increase all of samurais other moves damage.
most people don't actually care about this and just want the cool buildup into big hit, but unless they went back to the stormblood design where using kaiten was an actual choice and not "that extra button you press before every single finisher to get its real intended damage" they were kinda fricked one way or the other until they finally bite the bullet and just remove crit from the game because it's a stupid fricking stat that does everything and that literally every class wants because it does everything
too many buttons. they're probably gonna remove lance charge and do something with how Jump->geirk->nastrond shit works
All we know is they're going to do something to reduce the number of buttons, that "it'll be like the changes ninja got in 5.x, nothing major", and that the reason for them changing the class is that they feel like they can't actually add anything new that's not just yet another jump or laser dragon so they need to readjust the foundation first.
first seems pretty transparent that fang/wheel are going to be the same button that changes, one of the FOUR buffs you hit during your burst being combined/removed outright, and maybe something kind of wack like stardiver no longer being its own button
the later changes to nin made mudras go from ogcd to gcd so I can see them doing that for jumps because double weave vomit has been such an issue for some people that they make jumps faster and faster so people who don't live near the server can actually do their burst and lose less impact as a result. DFD doing less damage then your 30s jump despite taking 2 minutes is pretty fricking stupid even if it hits aoe and if it was a GCD they could give it an approriate level of frick you damage/windup impact
people are right to be concerned but I'm on some hopium because while they've made some real fricking stupid reworks they've also given us endwalker monk which was weird as frick at first but in retrospect is probably the best the class has ever been outside of tornado monk and also they fixed living dead and blood weapon in the same patch after literal years of complaints so sometimes they can do good, I definitely feel like dragoon is one of the jobs the devs care about a lot so if it gets fricked up it's because it was coddled too much instead of because it got left out with the trash like healers

ironically one of the biggest cases of button bloat on dragoon, the fact that it has a crit chance buff and then also a buff that you use during the same window that forces 1 move to be a crit (so you have to wonder if it wouldn't have just crit anyway from the higher chance) is no longer going to be redundant because now forced crit moves do more damage under crit chance buffs

Yes. it's far easiest. It's poetics heavy and most stuff is soloable.
Only last 2 steps might need help if you want to go fast.
It's got a couple of quick FATE grinds and some steps where you can blaze through the dungeons unsynced, but it's mostly getting materials that can be bought with poetics, scrip, and company seals.
I'd say HW relic is like doing 1/3 of an ARR relic
