Scalebound's cancellation fucked them so much harder than people realize, tons of talent left the company after that game failed and it's only because of Nier Automata's success that they didn't close their doors for good.
Don't worry, eventually Kamiya will finish Project GG and it'll be amazing but only 10 people will play it but all of them will feel smug about doing so, just like W101.
>Uses MS' money for other projects and keeps mising deadlines, game is cancelled >Sells Astral Chain, their most profitable IP, to Nintendo just to own Wonderful Flop, re-releases it, no one buys the game >Directors/designers/talent etc. keeps leaving Platinum due to how unorganized they are >Announces Okami 3, nothing comes out of it >Announces Devil May Cry 0, nothing comes out of it >Announces Project GG, nothing comes out of it >Kills Bayonetta IP
Why the hell this gay still has a job? He should've been fired after Scalebound. No wonder Mikami left Platinum 10 years ago.
That's when that little bug girl for some reason quit her job at Tango, began to shop and shill herself around cause the 15 minutes of fame got to her head at E3, and as far as I'm aware is unemployed still
Ikumi was just an artist for Okami, she doesn't even work at Capcom anymore. She was just being hopeful.
That's definitely not Kamiya announcing an actual game.
Ikumi was just an artist for Okami, she doesn't even work at Capcom anymore. She was just being hopeful.
That's definitely not Kamiya announcing an actual game.
Dont forget about having granblue fantasy hire them to make a game that was so delayed and embarassingly awful that they scrapped the project and deleted their names from the project entirely and had to start their own studios just to make something that was way better than what platinum was showing off.
The fact that it's still taking a trillion years to come out even after Platinum left the project tells me it's a Cygames problem and the new version will be shit.
At this point people are just praying that Platinum becomes desperate enough to give themselves to Nintendo for a heavily discounted price, because their only alternatives would be Square Enix or a sketchy Chinese conglomerate. That's not usually how Nintendo works though, as they're usually content to just poach talent.
The Astral Chain thing is wild. Worst deal ever. That IP could have been good leverage for Platinum later. Now Nintendo has an action IP that's way more Nintendo than Bayonetta, and does just about as well if not better once they have full control over it.
Scalebound was entirely the fault of MS, just another Phantom Dust situation with MS going over the devs head and setting completely unrealistic goals and then just ghosting the studio when they no longer care about the project, also Kamiya isn't in charge of PG.
>Scalebound was entirely the fault of MS,
Wrong, they were using MS money to fund Nier Automata and Bayo 3(which was in dev hell back then). Same shit happened with Granblue since Cygames also noticed Platinum was hemorraging money from them. >also Kamiya isn't in charge of PG.
He's vice president.
>Wrong, they were using MS money to fund Nier Automata and Bayo 3(which was in dev hell back then). Same shit happened with Granblue since Cygames also noticed Platinum was hemorraging money from them.
Oh yeah, I'm sure that happened and MS totally just let them keep the money instead of suing them, holy shit, we saw what happened with Phantom Dust and it's the same song and dance. >he's vp therefore he makes all decisions including business ones
Where does this retardation even come from.
>Oh yeah, I'm sure that happened and MS totally just let them keep the money instead of suing them >Where does this retardation even come from.
Literally no one but Kamiya cares about Wonderful 101, what makes you think Platinum wanted to sell their most profitable IP to Nintendo in exchange of W101's IP? Kamiya probably got into Inaba's head and promised they can make it a great success.
Anytime I hear about Scalebound I always remember that a friend of mine who worked inside the Xbox division mentioned to me about a month before it's 'cancelation' that there was apparently a lot of bitching and moaning about how Platinum mismanaged the project.
It turns out not having a publisher support you and having to split your employees between dozens of projects in order to keep the company running results in slow dev times and games that turn out to be shit. Platinum game's mismanagement is nobody's fault but their own.
Most of those games are close to a decade old, made by a different director who whipped them into making a good game for once, or just lackluster titles.
They very much fell off after the mid-10s but Bayo 3 & Origins are great games, W101R is a great and much more accessible way to play that game, and being grossly overpriced aside Sol Cresta is also good. I think they're trying to do too many things at once and spreading what talent is still at the studio too thin.
That's true. I didn't really like AC's combat at all and while I like Demon Slave mechanically they ultimately sacrificed performance and level design and balancing in order for it to take center stage.
Shill
They've put out just as many bad games since 2015 as good. Babylon might be the worst game I've played since I was a kid that still got blatant shovelware as gifts, TMNT sucked, Astral Chain is a 6, and the good parts of Automata don't come from the Platinum side of development. World of Demons is a question mark because literally zero people have Apple Arcade.
no they're not. they're just "and I absolutely hate using this word" clunky. Bayonetta with with its turret sections and platforming is insufferable. Wonderful 101 is a fucking snoozefest. Astral Chain...it was aight for one playthrough I guess. IT RAN LIKE SHIT as well. Vanquish I like but its kinda bland. Okami is cool for an artsy game but again, BOOOOOORRIIIIIINNG. Nier titles are just shit and theres no redemption.
This all is an opinion from someone who plays the weebiest most nippon game you can think of so dont even try me.
Yeah, Platinum games typically make me feel very unsatisfied, like I barely passed a test. Yet the games are rarely enticing enough for me to go over again to fully grasp the mechanics.
I really liked the game on a gameplay level but can't disagree after how awful that ending was. They can easily bring Cereza back but the fact that they thought all of that was good and the way to set up the future of the series didn't inspire much. That said, Origins is unabashedly really great and kind of have me hope again. Not for Bayo 4 quite yet, but that the franchise can still be great in some capacity.
It's certainly their first great release with no asterisk or caveat since 2015. Sadly it probably flopped but hopefully Tinare can lead more projects since he clearly proved himself.
Bayonetta is an amazing character stuck in shit games. How the first Bayonetta became popular is beyond me. that game can hardly be considered an action game. I hated everything that is not killing monsters. Between the long af space harrier stage to fighting on top of the missile with abysmal camera to platforming segments where you cant see shit. to those hellish turret sections. I HATE BAYONETTA ARGH.
I enjoy all the Bayos and W101 but can't really disagree with you on that. Some of that stuff is fun but there is always the bad one, and that's usually the one they repeat.
B3 and AC couldn't hold my interest
I definitely don't feel the magic from them anymore. Maybe I have been moving away from those kinds of games in general, but I at least finished DMCV and some others.
Scalebound’s cancellation, making too many licensed games at the same time, making super niche experimental games in an already niche genre, Kamiya refusing to direct either Bayo 2 or 3, hardware limitations making Switch exclusives, trying to make a live service game with zero talent or experience for it(their CEO wants to try that again btw)
cause all it takes it one live service game to support you until the end of time. the game doesnt even need to have a massive player base. it just needs to not be a total stinker and sink from the start.
anon a studio closing down for majority of these CEOs is no big deal since all that matters is the money they make before it happens. So many shit games are released nowadays specially since getting financed through ESG is a whole lot more lucrative than making a profit that will actually sell. and in the end even if it sells horribly it still makes a profit on that end as well. its sad but its how it is.
You have to be mentally ill weeb gay to think that. There are numerous facts pointing that Platinum was at minimum 50% of reason why that shit got nuked. A fact that someone like Kamiya publicly apologized to MS should tell you something.
misses a single s on a word is being esl? you gays really care this much about spelling? I'm all for not talking like a retarded gay but dont be a gay yourself.
>he still can't type like a normal person
That's because you're an ESL and you got called out now your mad.
Little brown boy is mad. It's okay, you can jerk off to white women online, cause they won't touch you in real life you disguising, short, room temperature IQ, freak. Go eat your beans and rice before getting chopped into peices you useless shit skin.
I hope they continue to move closer to Nintendo, Astral Chains biggest problem is that it wants to call itself a pure action game with a scoring system when it's more of an adventure game that shouldn't worry about this.
I think of Astral Chain as an ARPG they should have made that more clear from the beginning. People went in expecting a normal action game and got bored by all the walking and talking in between combat.
The issue with Astral Chain to me is all the downtime in-between fights. Normally that shit wouldn't bother me especially with it also wanting to be a "police" game, but I found all the investigation and adventure elements to just drag. Which felt worse cause none of it was especially challenging and felt more like busy work to pad out the length sometimes.
The investigations are fine but it's compounded by having the replayable missions include that content when they should just be about the combat and light puzzle solving/platforming.
Yeah they should have cut down on that stuff or made it completely optional.
Maybe it could have been more entertaining if the protagonist had a personality and reacted to things instead of being mute.
Seriously. Why are they incapable of just making a straight forward, solid action game? Seems like their philosophy has really shifted towards the Kamiya stuff which involves "throw in as much shit as you can". I get flak for this but it's why I like Bayonetta 2 the most out of the series. The singular game in the franchise that is just combat areas, not Wonderful 101 Games In 1
Do you forget the awful flying bosses, the riding sequences in Inferno, and the long Star Fox segment? 2 is still very good but it's the weakest one because it has the weakest combat mechanics of the trilogy; 1 & 3 have more distractions the first time through but you have ways to focus on the combat if you want.
Part of it was the push to self publish. Their games don't make enough for the kind of games their making. Self publishing has a lot more risk since you are now responsible for promoting it which turns out isn't that easy. They should have realized they needed to be bought out if they were going to survive. Nintendo is really the only company that can (SE is in the shitter and might just be bought out themselves) or Tencent.
Platinum fulfilled a very specific niche in the 2010s because they were the only developers making games that were actually good and not trying to kill the hard drive on your PS3 or Xbox with shitty graphics showcases that barely hit 30FPS.
Now though most developers have figured out how to make actual games that can also act as big graphics showcases while Platinum's games still look the same as they did 10 years ago (or worse if you compare Bayonetta 3 to 1 and 2) and they've just been left in the dust as a result.
They were pretty much the only ones still making action games from 2008 to 2019.
Like the only good non-Platinum action game from that period was GOW3.
There were some other decent action games like Dante’s Inferno, No More Heroes 2, and Nioh 1 if you count that, but yeah Platinum really carried that period
The fact that Bayonetta 3 was genuinely a bad game really cemented the fact that Platinum is on it's death bed.
They'll probably fart out Astral Chain 2, which will sell mediocre because who the fuck wants a sequel to that game, and then they'll close their doors. Project GG will be cancelled, although I suspect it already has been behind closed doors.
Bayo 3 really isn’t any worse than 1 or 2 unless you care a lot about the story. >who the fuck wants a sequel to that game
Me. Astral Chain is my second favorite Platinum game.
>Bayonetta 3 was genuinely a bad game
It wasn't though. It has some of the worst writing in any game I've ever played but it has the best weapons & Rival boss in the trilogy. I would play 3's Witch Trials over 2's any day, and I like 2.
>combat is watered down because 90% of the dev time went into the single button mash giant demon summons >this includes weapons being boiled down into generalized movesets like DMC instead of the unique hand/feet system >can't fucking dodge-offset from a wicked-weave >levels are severely limited in creativity by the aforementioned demon summon mechanic, all of them are fucking big empty boxes glues together >all the end level bosses are lame ass wario ware tier minigames instead of a crazy multi-phase battles where your reflexes and mastery of the core combat are tested >Everything about Viola >EVERY character is violently assassin >like to the point where most people agree that the real Bayonetta isn't even in the game because the protagonist is such a fucking unfun, unimpressive, boring piece of shit who does nothing but watch other bayonettas die and then dies herself. She also dances like a wine drunk white woman now >This is in part due to the fact that Platinum managed to piss off and drive away Bayonetta's voice actress, Bayo's motion capture artist, cutscene choreographer, and lead musician. Not to mention the lead writer, Kamiya, simply refuses to properly sit down and work on video games anymore. >Also the ugliest game in the series by far. Even aside from the hardware inflicted visual issues, the character designs and monster designs are all fucking god awful. Viola is a walking abortion and 3Bayo has the most prudish design in the series. Literally a whole game where ugly ass characters fight utterly boring looking green jelly blobs who explode into family friendly green jelly. Fucking yaaaaaay...
>Also the ugliest game in the series by far.
this one baffles me to no end, how the fuck can the 3rd game in a series look objectively worse than the first one which came out over a decade before and on weaker hardware.
put bayo 1 and 3 side by side and try to guess which one came out first.
We all know that but it can still drop frames. I actually like 3's gameplay and even some of the design work but it was way too ambitious for Switch and it shows.
Half the game was a response to DMC5. Probably a result of the open world idea falling through and Miyata panicking and pulling ideas from a recent success in the genre. He was even less ready to direct a Bayonetta than Hashimoto was. It's a miracle I still had fun with the game when it was such a mess. Then Origins comes out and effortlessly becomes the 2nd best in the franchise while knowing exactly what it was.
Fuck no Bayo 2 at least has the core combat intact and has the real Bayonetta
1>2
the other two aren't worth playing

We could argue about 2 having a worse version of 1 combat vs 3 doing something different all day and not get anywhere, but Origins is absolutely worth playing. It's a very charming game and the only Platinum title since Madworld that feels like a Clover Studios game.

you could argue 1 had better combat but at least 2 had less section that was NOT combat.

Lol just say you don't want to bother with actually learning the mechanic
>Bayonetta 3 was genuinely a bad game
It wasn't though. It has some of the worst writing in any game I've ever played but it has the best weapons & Rival boss in the trilogy. I would play 3's Witch Trials over 2's any day, and I like 2.
How are Tartarus, Ribbit Libido, Dead End Express and Abracadabra at all reskins? Even the big Gomorrah hammer doesn't play like Takemikazuchi. Bayo 1 is the better game but half of the weapons in that are variants on Scarborough.
It was the same 10 years ago tbh, MGR isn't a good game and really shed light on why gatekeeping is important. Platinum peaked at the start with Madworld, Bayo 1, and Vanquish.
>MGR isn't a good game
Sure the combat is simple but parrying and blade mode are extremely satisfying and it has the best bosses in any Platinum game. Calling it a bad game is just retarded.
Alphadream caused their own downfall and Nintendo knew there was no saving them >had no experience in 3D development and refused to do so (they effectively Blockbuster'd themselves because they thought they could coast on 2D forever). >remade Bowser's Inside Story for the 3DS (where it was basically out the door) instead of the Switch (the newest console that was selling gangbusters at that point)
Platinum wants to be independent they don’t want to sell to anyone
They said that they're focused on "freedom" if an acquisition ever happens, not that they outright refuse to be bought out
https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2022/02/platinumgames-ceo-insists-freedom-would-be-important-in-any-takeover-talks
Every company wants to be independent, but sometimes that's not how life/business works.
And Nintendo would be one of the best companies for that aspect, considering the amount of "freedom" they give to Monolift Soft, Retro Studios, Next Level Games, etc.
Clover Studios was overrated and deserved to get closed.
Platinum is also overrated and deserves to go bankrupt.
The only good game Clover made was God Hand.
The only good game Platinum made was Bayonetta.
Yes, all of the others were shit, even MGR, which was just a gutted Bayonetta with an embarrassing edgelord protagonist. And no, Armstrong is not enough to make the game good.
The amount of snoy butthurt is hilarious.
Plat still makes great games.
"People" only hated bayo 3 because it ripped apart thier lesbian dreams.
Platinum only makes games for 1st worlders who aren't mentally ill.
That's why you creatures hate them.
I didn't like AC and found Bayo 2 mildly disappointing but liked 3 a lot (and yet still found it disappointing given the wait). Bayo Origins and The Wonderful One are nice but much smaller scale projects.
So how many people are going to bitch and cry about how "Nintendo didn't buy Platinumgames" when they eventually shut down?
If Nintendo saw value in the company, they would have bought them years ago instead of only snatching up ONE of their IPs.
Nintendo very rarely buys companies outright especially in recent times. I think they want Taura and maybe a few other key staff if possible. Kamiya will probably never directly work for a corp again if he can help it, he'd sooner start an even smaller studio unless Capcom rolled out the red carpet for him (they won't).
There's absolutely no reason for Nintendo to buy Platinum. They have no worthwhile IPs, their management is a mess and they can just poach the good talent once Platinum goes under.
I would like to see them collab with Monolith Soft in the future. Platinum handles the gameplay while MS does the story, world design, and programming, action cutscene direction from both has the potential to be out of this world.
Scalebound's cancellation fucked them so much harder than people realize, tons of talent left the company after that game failed and it's only because of Nier Automata's success that they didn't close their doors for good.
Deal with Microshit, pay the price. When will people learn?
Proof it
which is a shame because yoko taro slops should flop
I h8 nier games so much its unreal
Don't worry, eventually Kamiya will finish Project GG and it'll be amazing but only 10 people will play it but all of them will feel smug about doing so, just like W101.
Literally me. I can't wait to meet the 9 others.

They literally had to build a game studio from nothing and then proceeded to post regular updates.
The current build of Relink clearly still has Platinum's flair in them
Didn't they also try to milk Cygames but they eventually noticed?
Blocked

Beating the game and mastering the controls are not the same thing.
Yeah, Platinum games typically make me feel very unsatisfied, like I barely passed a test. Yet the games are rarely enticing enough for me to go over again to fully grasp the mechanics.
Most every game they've made in the past decade has a game journalist mode where the game basically plays itself, maybe it'd be more up your speed.
I have no optimism for the future of Bayonetta after playing 3.

W101 Remastered
TF Devastation
All four Bayonetta games
Esl gay leave. have a nice day you disgusting brown freak.
misses a single s on a word is being esl? you gays really care this much about spelling? I'm all for not talking like a retarded gay but dont be a gay yourself.
>he still can't type like a normal person
That's because you're an ESL and you got called out now your mad.
Little brown boy is mad. It's okay, you can jerk off to white women online, cause they won't touch you in real life you disguising, short, room temperature IQ, freak. Go eat your beans and rice before getting chopped into peices you useless shit skin.
hey man you ok?
Got a feeling someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed today. You feelin' ok, missy?
Bayonetta 2 being NINTENDO EXCLUSIVE killed them.
Bayonetta has the same exact shortcomings you just mentioned.
Astral Chain, Bayonetta 3 and Origins were all kino.
Just because they made that garbage with Square Enix doesn't mean they have fallen off entirely.
It's a shame, but I'm sure they can get something going in the future.
Platinum needs a tard wrangler to develop games, Astral Chain is good and I hope Nintendo greenlights a sequel.
I'm saddened by the Infinite Space erasure in the studio's history.
Never existed
Soul
>snoys still mad about platinum
The fact that Bayonetta 3 was genuinely a bad game really cemented the fact that Platinum is on it's death bed.
They'll probably fart out Astral Chain 2, which will sell mediocre because who the fuck wants a sequel to that game, and then they'll close their doors. Project GG will be cancelled, although I suspect it already has been behind closed doors.
Bayo 3 really isn’t any worse than 1 or 2 unless you care a lot about the story.
>who the fuck wants a sequel to that game
Me. Astral Chain is my second favorite Platinum game.
>combat is watered down because 90% of the dev time went into the single button mash giant demon summons
>this includes weapons being boiled down into generalized movesets like DMC instead of the unique hand/feet system
>can't fucking dodge-offset from a wicked-weave
>levels are severely limited in creativity by the aforementioned demon summon mechanic, all of them are fucking big empty boxes glues together
>all the end level bosses are lame ass wario ware tier minigames instead of a crazy multi-phase battles where your reflexes and mastery of the core combat are tested
>Everything about Viola
>EVERY character is violently assassin
>like to the point where most people agree that the real Bayonetta isn't even in the game because the protagonist is such a fucking unfun, unimpressive, boring piece of shit who does nothing but watch other bayonettas die and then dies herself. She also dances like a wine drunk white woman now
>This is in part due to the fact that Platinum managed to piss off and drive away Bayonetta's voice actress, Bayo's motion capture artist, cutscene choreographer, and lead musician.
They had to make sacrifices to the visuals to have bigger arenas and demon summoning.
We all know that but it can still drop frames. I actually like 3's gameplay and even some of the design work but it was way too ambitious for Switch and it shows.
>Everything about Viola
You can tell Viola was some stupid attempt at trying to gain the same success DMCV had with Nero and it fucking flopped hard.
1>O>3>2
Fuck no Bayo 2 at least has the core combat intact and has the real Bayonetta
1>2
the other two aren't worth playing
We could argue about 2 having a worse version of 1 combat vs 3 doing something different all day and not get anywhere, but Origins is absolutely worth playing. It's a very charming game and the only Platinum title since Madworld that feels like a Clover Studios game.
>full AAA pricetag for a fucking minigame
Fuck right off
It's a 20 hour game.
Game still looks like indieslop.
Also that game underperformed in Japan so even they didn't fall for this trash.
you could argue 1 had better combat but at least 2 had less section that was NOT combat.
is watered down because 90% of the dev time went into the single button mash giant demon summons
Lol just say you don't want to bother with actually learning the mechanic
>Bayonetta 3 was genuinely a bad game
It wasn't though. It has some of the worst writing in any game I've ever played but it has the best weapons & Rival boss in the trilogy. I would play 3's Witch Trials over 2's any day, and I like 2.
>it has the best weapons
It lazily copied DMC's weapon system and most of the weapons are fucking reskins
How are Tartarus, Ribbit Libido, Dead End Express and Abracadabra at all reskins? Even the big Gomorrah hammer doesn't play like Takemikazuchi. Bayo 1 is the better game but half of the weapons in that are variants on Scarborough.
Astral Chain is the last good game they made and that was ages ago.
AC was fucking lame as shit. I can't believe Platinum of all people made such stiff and awkward combat.
Are you serious? Bayo is their only game with exceptional combat.
Devastation exists but it was built on the bones of Bayo to be fair. I love W101 but I wouldn't call the combat exceptional either.
Its a bad game that only existed because Konami is retarded and couldn't make their own MGR
Your taste is bad. Konami’s version of MGR would have been so much worse.
>Konami’s version of MGR would have been so much worse.
They were too ambitious with their cutting thing.
Team Ninja is the new Platinum Games
they need to stop putting rank systems in their games. that shit is plain unfun
Nah man, get gud
>Deals with Tencent and Square Enix
How to destroy your company any%
>Deals with Nintendo
Worse
Alphadream caused their own downfall and Nintendo knew there was no saving them
>had no experience in 3D development and refused to do so (they effectively Blockbuster'd themselves because they thought they could coast on 2D forever).
>remade Bowser's Inside Story for the 3DS (where it was basically out the door) instead of the Switch (the newest console that was selling gangbusters at that point)
You have very picky and autistic taste
Why? Their quality control was always all over the place. They could announce a game tomorrow no ones ever heard of that ends up being a 9
The amount of snoy butthurt is hilarious.
Plat still makes great games.
"People" only hated bayo 3 because it ripped apart thier lesbian dreams.
Platinum only makes games for 1st worlders who aren't mentally ill.
That's why you creatures hate them.
>"People" only hated bayo 3 because it ripped apart thier lesbian dreams.
>Bayonetta gets replaced by a literal lesbian
I liked Bayo 2 and Astral Chain Bayo 3 was just disappointing for various reasons.
I didn't like AC and found Bayo 2 mildly disappointing but liked 3 a lot (and yet still found it disappointing given the wait). Bayo Origins and The Wonderful One are nice but much smaller scale projects.
in its defence it was in the toilet even worse during the ps3 era
So how many people are going to bitch and cry about how "Nintendo didn't buy Platinumgames" when they eventually shut down?
If Nintendo saw value in the company, they would have bought them years ago instead of only snatching up ONE of their IPs.
NO YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND ITS THE SNOYS
SNOY ARE BLOCKING THE ACQUISITION
Platinum wants to be independent they don’t want to sell to anyone
>Fully action game Xenoblade spin-off
Inject it directly into my veins.
I'd rather they get an action game.
>The Microshill Poojeet is having a breakdown over Platinum again
Lmao, don't you have to go defend Starfield's honor in another thread Rajesh?
They never should have became a publisher. Like not even Fromsoft is doing crazy retard shit like that and they've been 10x more successful than them.
