I'm holding out hope for a re-remake of RE1 in 2026, just in time for the original's 30th. I would much rather have that than RE5. 5 needs to be forgotten as a relic of its time. Everything about that game is mediocre to terrible, with only the Lost in Nightmares DLC being somewhat enjoyable.

            To name a few:

            >Forced co-op (good luck finding anyone willing to play it nowadays)
            >Having to constantly babysit Sheva, who wastes ammo and health items like nobody's business
            >Boring and unscary setting that does nothing with it, and kind of made all the controversy not even worth it
            >The enemies and setpieces are just lesser retreads of RE4
            >The inventory is a massive downgrade from RE4
            >The controls don't work for the action game that they desperately want it to be
            >Kicked up the QTE nonsense even further
            >The entire middle portion of the game (the underground city ruins) is a goddamn slog to get through
            >It was finally the tipping point where you could feel the inspiration shift from Romero/Carpenter/Cameron/Fulci/Argento/etc into straight up anime bullshit

In short, it takes away all the wrong lessons from RE4, and cranks them to 11. 6 then took that even further, and broke the knob off, nearly killing the franchise in the process.

              >Having to constantly babysit Sheva, who wastes ammo and health items like nobody's business
but it doesnt have forced co-op and sheva isnt that bad of an ai partner. i played the game alone back to front on every single difficulty. did fine. sheva actually saved my ass a million times on the hardest difficulty

              >Boring and unscary setting that does nothing with it, and kind of made all the controversy not even worth it
i loved the setting and a remake could make it even better like i said. the controversy stuff was just mentally ill journalists and the extremely impressionable memers. none of it was real and none of it mattered and none of it matters still. but we'll inevitably revist that mental illness when the game gets remade

              >The enemies and setpieces are just lesser retreads of RE4
you sound like a resident evil 4 fanboy. no wonder youre hating on 5. its like how final fantasy 7 fanboys hate on 8

              >The inventory is a massive downgrade from RE4
no its not. its super quick and intuitive. even most people who hate on re5 still typically praise re5s inventory. again, it just sounds like youre a re4 fanboy

              >The controls don't work for the action game that they desperately want it to be
they work just fine. a little outdated by todays standards but they were fine. sounds like player error to me. get good

              >Kicked up the QTE nonsense even further
the qte were pretty cool in re4. but i agree that they were horrible in re5. the only thing i agree with you on

              >The entire middle portion of the game (the underground city ruins) is a goddamn slog to get through
subjective. like most of your opinions

re6 was cool too. very amitious. great levels. fun combat. great boss fights. cool cinematics. cool story that comes together through different character playthroughs. fun as frick. it gets hated on by the same haters who hate on re5 all the time. its a damn shame

I started playing RE5 again a week ago in preparation for the remake and I'm astounded at how much better and more fluid the combat is in comparison to RE4 remake. I don't miss shots in that game because the crosshair isn't blocking my entire cone of view, Sheva is a much more useful partner than Ashley and it's not woke shit.

Thing is how should another remake of RE1 be done? The Gamecube remake is nearly perfect, minus the dreary color palette, Crimson Heads and Lisa Trevor storyline.

the idea of a new re1 remake is that we get the same over-the-shoulder third-person perspective like in re2r, 3r and 4r for continuity consistency (with new jill as well). and i would love that very much

I'd prefer that as well but since they went FPS with 7/8 it would be logical to do REmake1 in the same style. I just hope they beef up the color palette with dark, rich, saturated colors like REmake 2/3!!!FACT!!!

If you play it under the full knowledge it's a reimagining rather than a 1:1 remake, you'll enjoy it. Honestly this was the best modern REmake because it actually had balls and changed things without trying to overwrite the original. Meanwhile RE3/4 remakes felt like the team hadn't even played the original game they were remaking.

RE5 is awesome honestly much better than RE4 and it is not ashamed of the run and gun style fundamental gameplay that RE4 introduced and designs competent levels and game structure with that gameplay in mind while still having a lot of scary and freaky horror elements with the Africa setting and adds a lot to the Resident Evil lore which it clearly has a deep respect for

But you're insane if you think RE6 is at all good. Sherry/Jake campaign is decent, not good, but the rest are all legit trash

I replayed 6 recently, and noticed that it does the "run around a mazelike area and search for three things to unlock a thing, while being chased around by those things that fall apart when you shoot them, and then gradually reassemble" four fricking times. They threw so much filler into each campaign, because they needed each chapter for each character to be roughly the same length, so the final product just feels unnecessarily bloated and overlong.

I'm aware, we've just hit a point where nobody's changing anyone's mind, and I'm not interested in shooting bullet points back-and-forth, so I'm now bored with continuing the discussion. Continue enjoying RE4, and I will continue looking it a blight on the franchise that completely betrays everything it was up to that point in order to chase the late-00s Gears of War audience, and stands as a time capsule from the period when Capcom was going full westaboo.

      >RE5 is awesome honestly much better than RE4
If you mean the remake then I totally agree with you. For one, RE5 has the same moment-to-moment action pacing that the original RE4 had. In the RE4make it's inundated with fetch quests and treasure hunting that kills the flow of the game. Slogging through RE4make is like trying to slog through a Ubisoft game with all the progression tied to fetch quests in large open world areas, and then there's time wasters like the firing range that are optional (but highly encouraged) so you can end up spending hours on the same section roaming the same areas. RE5 is just better from a game design perspective.

No, I meant the original RE4.

Original RE4 is so pretentious it ruins any of the otherwise great qualities it possesses. It tries to keep up the appearance of a survival horror game with interconnected levels (which eventually amount to boring slog backtracking) and janky boss encounters but also wants to go full shooter mode. With regards to the plot and characterization, Mikami clearly played too many Kojima games when he decided to scrap RE3.5 and build RE4 from scratch differently.

The RE4 Remake fixes many of the issues I have with OG RE4. Continuity from RE2 to RE4 Leon is much stronger and the game benefits as a whole from it. There are action segments, but the game still plays like a survival horror at heart so it justifies the larger play spaces. My one complaint is that the remake still feels too long.

                >Leon in the army
Remake emphasizes that he was forced into it + his exploitation during the missions. His time in the army is reflected in his overall character and his character arc for RE4 (enduring endless horrors including the death of a beloved mentor at his own hands but having the strength to come out of it on the other side with a head up high to proudly proclaim "mission accomplished" and not let it ruin him like the Raccoon City incident did)

                >Radio calls

                >one-liners

They did Krauser so dirty in the remake.
In RE4 he's just some crazy guy who went mad with power.
In RE4R he literally has lines ripped straight from the bad guy in Modern Warfare 2.

No they retconned his character which is the worst part, in the original he's an Umbrella agent that worked for Wesker to steal the sample with Ada and in the remake he's just Saddler minions without ties to Umbrella and Wesker

Everything about Umbrella seems to be underplayed in the remake. They're not even mentioned in the intro despite it seemingly being important to set up considering the last two games were about them.

Not just Umbrella basically every villain was almost underplayed in the remake especially Saddler, Saddler was really fun and comically flamboyant in the original and they made her boring in the remake

                Anonymous

The exclusion of the intercom moments really made all the villains less interesting, and they barely felt present within their respective arcs. Salazar is the biggest joke, considering there's only two scenes where he taunts Leon in comparison to the many in the original. There's hardly any buildup or payoff.

leon was a lot realer and cooler to me in re2r and re4r. went from being a hopeful boy wanting to do good by joining the police force into a military-trained survivor. raccoon city hardened the frick out of him so his personality and attitude in re4r make so much sense

Leon in RE4 is supposed to be a professional. In RE4R he's still the same whiny pissant he is in the RE2 remake. RE4 Leon is very careful not to indulge Ashley because she's the escort and the President's daughter who is supposed to be out of the line of fire, whereas RE4R Leon repeatedly tells Ashley that she doesn't need him and that's she's actually pretty good, which is the most moronic thing you can say to a young girl who is already throwing herself in the line of danger repeatedly. And Leon just lets her do it like with the wrecking ball. It's moronic and doesn't make sense.

The "hallways" are much longer but not any more dense than the RPD's were, which makes it a drag to backtrack once you get far enough in. There's a bit less interconnection. Rockfort Island is more like 5 to 6 key areas on a map you walk back and forth between rather than a Spencer mansion or RPD where it's like a swiss cheese building where every room has a purpose.

never trust a hoe off the street + a loving family should never be taken for granted
            crossdressing is degenerate.

          >Save the Alfred troony character from getting scrutinized by focusing more on the incestuous obsession aspect than the crossdressing

Maybe Shinji was right, maybe they should've kissed.

Lots of yellow paint and endlessly respawning ammo. If CV released today and didn't feature that it would filter all the dummies who liked RE4 remake.

Put back in the nazi elements for the Ashford family and dial them up to 6 million.

    This will always be moronic.

It was very good but still an inferior game compared to the original.

I don't agree, but it would probably be in the top 50.

RE2 is my favorite game of all time but as much as I love REmake2 it just exposes the problems that the original had, namely the backtracking which I know is a big part of RE but is compounded when you have to play again as either Leon or Claire and redo 75% of everything you already did with minor variations.

Get Leon's original uniform, the original OST and his campaign is a 10/10 fricking masterpiece. They missed the opportunity to create a new campaign with Claire which makes it repetitive and is the main complaint people have.

I know it's fashionable to shit on REmake3 but I probably like it slightly more as it felt like there was always a feeling of forward momentum, even with the amount of backtracking you did.

Finally, I'm still mad we didn't get a film adaptation of RE2 starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Love Hewitt as Leon and Claire circa 2003 Directed by Paul Verhoeven!!!FACT!!!

My idea for an ending would be that the nuke hits the city causing a nuclear firestorm to hurtle through the train tunnel, they manage to unhook the car sending it and the monster into the flames. The train escapes the tunnel onto a bridge but Leon, Claire and Ashley have to jump off into a river below as the bridge breaks causing the train engine to crash and explode.

Down the river Leon, Claire and Ashley manage to get out of the water and into the woods, eventually finding a major roadway leading to Racoon City which they can see is in flames and smoldering due to the nuke.

They sigh with relief and start walking. Claire states 'At least it's over", to which Leon replies "I hope so, say, it's morning, lets find somewhere we can get breakfast!" and Ashley says "Look, that sign over there says we're close to a town!" and Claire closes with "At least we can be sure it wont be worse than Raccoon city!"

As Leon, Claire and Ashley walk past the sign it says "Welcome to Silent Hill" as this music plays and the screen fades to black...

It's definitely up there. I'd put Dark Souls 3 and XCOM2:WoTC above it. RE2 falls off once you get to the underground, and really falls off once you get to the lab.

      >RE2 falls off once you get to the underground, and really falls off once you get to the lab.

That's a Resident Evil tradition. Only RE3 doesn't have that problem.

      >and really falls off once you get to the lab
The lab is so awful. What in the frick is a giant star wars style chasm doing there? And the train makes no sense. Is Raccoon City located on the peak of an enormous mountain now?

    RE4 Leon:
    >walks into ganado shack in the opening armed with his pistol
    >doesn't even bother speaking homosexual spanish, just asks about ashley's photograph and walks off
    >immediately spots axe, dodges attack, flings back into standard police procedure and then the player is tasked with killing the ganado
    RE4R Leon:
    >walks into ganado shack in the opening with his pistol sheathed, speaks homosexual spanshit language to the ganado
    >lets his guard down by examining the police badge, almost getting himself killed because of it
    >kicks the ganado into the wall with the force of goku and snaps his neck, player is given no intervention in this scene whatsoever
    >runs down to cellar
    >sees the ganados storming the shack, runs upstairs
    >proceeds to immediately speak to hunnigan about their op with the ganados literally just outside the door
    >codenames don't even work because they literally say who each character is in that same conversation

I think the big difference between RE4 Leon and RE4R Leon is that RE4 Leon was actually competent.

Not sure but it was definitely an excellent game. I remember it just shadowdropping one night and I bought it on a whim. Out of nowhere I get sexy ass young Leon, beautiful fricking graphics, smooth animations, and one of the best survival horror games ever made. Did RE4R overshadow it? Debatable. But frick this was a great game. I especially loved having to make plans about just getting from one room to another without getting fricking eaten

Unrelated but do you know what absolutely killed RE6? Every time you change your weapon, your character comes to a complete stop. Even worse, because of the weapon select just being a line, you have to select anywhere from 1-4 weapons in-between just to get to the one you actually want. That's like 1-4 pauses every single time you switch to certain weapons. How in the world could everyone overlook something so egregious?

It‘s slow and boring, the only good thing about this game is the gore. I stopped playing after 3 hours and went back to RE4
