This is why the first thing I ask applicants is whether they use D&D-branded products.
Haven't needed to look for players for about eight years now at this point - I've been booked solid on Fridays, Saturdays and Tuesdays ever since. Stable, sane, fun groups, all three. We never have game-related drama, we actually finish campaigns and everything. It's been just wild how dramatic the difference has been just because I put my foot down hard on that one specific question.

I actually like when anachronisms are introduced with no explanation. I wrote a semi-comedic adventure once set in a magical university and put a vending machine in there.

I not even sure if those can even be called anachronisms given that those games aren't played on medieval earth anyway

Why DID tieflings go from infernal abominations against mankind to the default quirky gay? Or has that always been the case?

I mean this is unironically true - DnD is normie trash fantasy. But that is what people want (including me).

It's just a way of having good clean fun with friends on a spare afternoon.

When I was in highschool/college, the idea of
immersing myself in a highly detailed and well-thought out fantasy world resonated deeply with me and I expected a high degree of roleplaying from others.

I can no longer invest the time and effort to keep up gaming like this, nor can I find people who would be willing to do the same.

DnD is popular because its shallow roleplaying, an idea which is easy to sell to newcomers who are willing to try it out, and requires small mental effort to keep up, which allows busy people to participate regularly.

Honestly I don't care about this culture war BS, and the premise sounds fun for a one-shot or short campaign.

I live in France, many women don't shave, and visible hairs are more than rare, and it's usually non-whites.
+ it's not like shaving is a modern invention. In no fricking art ever made before the 21st century, women were depicted as hairy.

4e ruined them. Turned them from societal outcasts with distant demonic heritage that resulted in varied mutations to a homogenous race of Hellboys. I have no explanation for the absolute eviscerations that occured with that edition

because critical role fans are convinced that only bards can play an instrument, only monks can form a fist, and only a wizard can be the very intelligent person.

5e is an amazing litmus test for determining who among the people that surround you is a smooth-brained dumb-c**t consumer.

No you don't. You only like gimmicky ideas, so will play just one session before getting bored, then demand your group does another campaign based on the next 'fun' gimmick you are inspired by from a film, book or picture you liked, repeating forever.

I hate this D&D brainrot where players think everything must be oriented around the CLASS they pick.

You can play a fricking instrument, do a dance, sing a song, all of that, without being THE CLASS: BARD.

I guess this is why playpigs will remain playpigs.

      >You can play a fricking instrument, do a dance, sing a song, all of that, without being THE CLASS: BARD.
yeah, but you can't get the bards class abilities or bards sub-classes without the bard class
why do you think it's just for the "play instruments" things

also this is not a D&D brainrot but a 40K/Dark Heresy brainrot it's just a variation of the classic 'All Guardsman Party'

Reminds me of my wish to invent a 'Pact of the Song' warlock where they can get an instrument (or their own vocal chords are changed) as their pact item, granting them basically some lite bard and musical themed powers. For any Fiend pacted Warlocks who take the Song as their gift, they must go on a quest to hunt down a human man named Johnny and claim his soul in a music duel.
