    Then absolutely not.
I love Ichiban and the story is great, but if you hate turn based games then this is definitely not a game you want to play.

It is way worse than you think, it is unbearable how mind-numbingly simple the combat is and the positioning of your characters matters for AoE attacks but everyone aimlessly wanders around the arena for the entire fight and you can't control them at all it is bizarre.

On top of the awful combat the story's pacing is bad even for a Yakuza game, it starts out with an interesting premise and then immediately drops it for you to go hang out with homeless people and have the main character defend prostitution for 40 fricking hours and NOTHING HAPPENS

If you're on fricking chapter 12 and you still don't like it then it's clearly not for you.

the game's a fricking slog in the first few chapters, barely any fun until you get more skills to use. you would definitely not like it if you dislike turn-based combat, weakest yakuza in gameplay imo

play judgment n lost judgment instead, kino combat

It's a movie game just like the rest of the series, the combat is equally braindead.

No. Play 1-6 if you haven't or Judgment and Lost Judgment instead. As a fan of the series, I still haven't touched 7 just because I despise turn-based combat and 7's is particularly shallow and shit.

Hopefully 8 goes back to the old combat, turn based sucks. Yakuza 7 is a slog.

Sega has taken a firm stance on the combat, Yakuza will be turn-based for the rest of the series

Nagoshi said if 7 sold poorly (which it did in Japan, hence why they're bringing back Kiryu in 8), they'd go back to the old combat.

Nagoshi's retired now. He no longer has any control over the series. It's turn based and always will be.

They've literally confirmed it's turn based for 8.

Couldve sworn they've said multiple times since 7 released that they'll change the genre of the next game to whatever they think fits the narrative best. I don't believe I've ever heard them say its turn based or nothing from now on.

This, hence why the next game is a card game.

It's not a card game, it's action combat with "card" abilities. Basically the magic system from Lost Judgment.

Best game in the series by far. The combat is braindead, but so was the old system. Story-wise, it's on the level of Yakuza 0, so it's actually good and all the new characters are surprisingly likable.

PS3 Yakuza combat has action depth even if you don't need to do anything but hammer potions and spam the most basic combo to just beat the game. If you like to use weird moves and odd heat actions for their own sake there's a lot to work with and there are difficult optional fights you have to understand a lot of shit to do legitimately.

        Turn Based > Spectacle Brawlers
Every time, always. Yakuza 7 is the first game I actually enjoyed in the series, I'm glad they decided to cater to the JRPG audience and told their old audience to frick off, the games are much better off for it.

Just try playing a good turnbased game some day like XCOM or Into the Breach. Or old X-Com or Jagged Alliance 2. A parody of bad JRPG combat isn't the experience you believe it to be.

I've played plenty of JRPGs and Western turn-based games. Yakuza 7's combat system might be shallow and a bit janky, but it's still miles better than the brawler combat. I'm actually excited for Yakuza 8 and to see how they improve it. The rest of the series was such trash.

This. Yakuza games aren’t good in general. The combat is just mashing buttons you can’t exactly lose anyway. The benefit of 7 (and 0 partially) is that they don’t focus on the most boring protagonist ever created in Kiryu

Yakuza was already bottom of the barrel mindless f tier combat so nothing really changed

Turn based combat can be fun but Yakuza 7 is terrible at it. It is insanely grindy, unbalanced and it is basically designed by people who dont know how to make RPGs, or in other words, they think grind is a must, battle are repetitive and theres no thought put on the abilities other than "lets just put it because why not" despite them being unbalanced as frick.

I’m sorry but I’m genuinely confused by what you mean by grindy. I am about half way through and insanely overlevelled while doing very little side shit.

Balancing sucks ass and (mandatory) combat dungeons can be tedious as frick, but otherwise its good Yakuza kino.

    >We Want a New Audience:The Game
I could've seen this happening after Y5, but after Y0 revived the series, why completely change the genre?
