    Stalker is fricking garbage unmodded.
    Here is what is happening.
    Every gun in the game fires peas.
    Every gun in the game fires an actual bullet when you aim it and hold still for IIRC 1.1 seconds.
    If you want to damage something, you must wait 1.1 seconds between shots, on all weapons.
    Enjoy, its trash. I was playing better things when it released, no doubt it was worth playing 20 years ago.

      This isn't a REmake 2 thread. STALKER's bullets work like normal bullets, waiting between shots doesn't do anything besides reset recoil. The caveat is that 9x18 is woefully underpowered garbage and the broken Makarovs and sawn-offs you get at the beginning of the game won't hit the broad side of a barn.

        I wasnt asking, Ive looked at the file myself as part of a very in depth discussion amongst modders trying to pin down the problem. I have a mod that evens out the bullet damage and removes the modifier or sets it to 0.
        Bullets do far more damage if you pause a second, Im rusty on how recoil/accuracy works but thats seperate
        I dont touch RE its trash and I dont play anything post 2015.

            All weapons in SOC can fire what can be considered a super bullet, which will deal more damage when it hits the head of npcs and mutants, usually resulting in an instant kill.

            But only the first shot in any firemode counts, unless you wait a second between shots. So spraying too much reduces your chances of getting those shots in.

            This contributes greatly to the feel that your enemies are spongy, because sometimes your weapon will instantly kill an enemy and not seem to work on others.

            So, aim carefully to the head and time your shots, enemies will go down faster.

            The mod was made by a slav on moddb and I couldnt find it in 2 minutes, sewrch is filled with info on the two seperate issues, damage and aim %.

      I don't think that's actually how it works but it's still best to play on Master.

      I've never enjoyed any Stalker mod. It's either boring or so completely different from what Stalker is that I wouldn't want to play it when I'm in a stalker mood.

      Plenty of games do stuff like this, players are just unaware of it, by intention. Then one players figures it out in one game and thinks it's some weird deranged thing exclusive to that one game, when really it's industry wide.
      Reminds me of people discovering what a rainbox is.

      The better way to play is to just spray more. Early game you get the fast firing ak or mp5 and hipfire those things. Late game you do controlled bursts to the head while scoping in. Go look up a speedrun and see how they kill everything fast they just dump mags. If you actually sat their and tried to use semi auto especially early game thinking the devs wanted you to play realistically you fools yourself. This is Slavic Call of Duty not ARMA

    if you are playing vanilla shadow of chernobyl, chances are you are not hitting them in the head.
    if you are playing the meme mod that gamma is, chances are you are using a gun with a damaged barrel (which reduces damage) and still not hitting them in the head.

      I have better advice.
      TR301 sniper/LR300 sniper or GP37/G36, for two legged animals, use AP ammo if they have exoskeletons or heavy armor. the IL86/L85 is absolute trash and you should only ever pick one up for looting its ammo. 9x39 rifles are also very good.
      12 gauge buckshot for mutants, the Viper 5/MP5 with JHP ammo is also okay
      when you get to the middle game do not even bother with carrying a pistol that isn't the UDP45 or even better, Freeman's Deagle in 9x39
      instead of carrying 5kgs of medical supplies, carry 5 army medikits, 15 bandages, and the rest of the weight in grenades. use grenades VERY liberally.

        addendum: there is a watchtower at the vehicle cemetery in the garbage that has two boxes blocking its ladder. if you shoot those boxes you can get about a thousand of 9x19 jhp rounds
        5.45 rifles are a noob trap. they are okay only until you reach the bar and can start buying 5.56 from traders, but suck in the late game
