You're meant to play it with friends, there are worse games for playing with randoms but there are definitely better games for it as well

Also you might have gone into a server marked as serious without realizing, i've never been game to even poke my head into one of those servers

I did these character concepts for it long long ago. It was such a fun game to dream about and there was a half hearted attempt to make some sort of demo, but I think I was the only person who actually had some sort of skill that would help get it made (not that I was a very good artist, but it was something at least).

The idea behind each class was that they would have subtle attributes that would influence each playthrough, both in terms of physical traits and in terms of rank or clearance in the base. One feature which I remember coming up with was a series of radial menus that slowed down time more depending on your character's area of expertise (eg; if you wanted to look up something about the creatures attacking, the zoologist would slow time down much more than the security guard to reflect how strong that memory was).

      From top left.
Security guard: highest physical attributes, access to firearms, least able to recruit or befriend other crew, very little knowledge on anything outside of the base map.
Zoologist: lower physical attributes but highly knowledgeable about marine life, would have been able to get around them much easier and has access to the zoo and subs.
Opps: low physical attributes, but has unique access to security systems remotely meaning he can open doors and lock off hazard zones to help others escape.
Saboteur: a foreign spy special class whose job it is to actually destroy the base and escape alive.
Maintenance: has access to the various ducts and tunnels between struts. Decent physical, moderate knowledge, but not very sociable.
Captain: special class who has max everything for funtime playthroughs.
Sub pilot: the worst social skills but highest ability with subs, diving suits and similar. Is basically insane.
Medical: high socials, low physical, access to medical wings and skills.

I see elements of Pressure in lots of smaller games, but none that combine them all.

This was a creature I had a dream about. Most of the monsters would be IRL deep sea fish, just scaled up or altered slightly. This one was pure fantasy though.

          Anonymous

Then these things were tongue eating louse that had been altered to accept human hosts and would turn other crew mates into hazards. Not full on zombies, but it would send them into psychotic fits that would either lead them to attack you or damage the base itself, which was way worse.

Obviously. It's insane that people ACTUALLY believe that colossal 1000+ foot long sea creatures exist without taking basic science into account. If there really was this frick-off huge beast stalking the ocean depths, it would have a visible effect on the population of krill needed to sustain my massive body, assuming it DOES only feed on krill and not fish, in which case its impact on the environment would be even more noticeable. Not only that, but more sounds would have been captured from both it and other members of its species, assuming it isn't somehow a singular, immortal eldritch beast.

Does Moby Dick's Whale count as a Kaiju?

Moby Dick might have the themes described in those posts, but the animals itself was based on an actual whale that sunk a large whaler. Furthermore, sperm whales reprotedly grew to larger sizes, but we might have actually rekt their gene pool by removing all the larger specimens through over-whaling.

while cool there is no real need for an animal to have eyes that big on Earth.
letting in all that light would be blinding same for pic related.
but for arts sake I get it because drawing a blank face and telling people there are some dinnerplate sized eyes in there but too small to make out is boring.

The lighthouse you see there is just the 11 meter one that is there now, not the 30 meter one there was there before. Also, there is a difference between the spray you see there, which is basically just vapor (further carried up by high winds), and then a wave that actually crashed all the glass panes and floods the building. But yeah the place definitely gets a lot of waves in general, the 1861 one was just a freak of them, and probably biggest "recorded" wave

        Anonymous

That's the spray from hitting the cliffs. A rogue wave would have had the actual column of water hitting the lighthouse.

There was a couple of threads WAY back in the day where a commercial diver who largely worked repairing oil rigs talked to us about the weird life he'd seen down there. One of which we figured out was an eel shark, and another was deepstaria engimatica, only the one he described was much larger than any caught on film. Those were really fricking fun and heartbreaking.

      Never believe diver stories.

It was in Sardinia. The tombs that weren't removed had trees planted all around them so people wouldn't notice.
I have family from there that confirms they had huge tombs. No one gave a frick for hundreds of years, they just accepted that gianst used to live there, but got extinct. Those who did question reality often came to the conclusion the giants died because of the biblical flood, since most of Sardinia is still very christian.

The idea is that none of it was actually built for a 'world's fair', that all of it was already there and the world's fairs were a cover up for the destruction of a previous civilization a group of elites subverted and inherited. All of it is a rewriting of history in according to some.

Never heard of the game, but this is neat stuff

I don't even have it any more, but Pressure was a copy/pasta of a fake journalist's preview of a game set in a deep sea base called Belisarius. The idea was that you'd pick a class and a randomly generated disaster would happen that would interact with the various other systems the game was running in a sandbox-y kind of way so that no two playthroughs would be the same.
Your goal was to escape to the surface with as many other survivors as possible. Each class would have strengths, weaknesses, and different clearances for different routes through the base, but if you had a survivor of a different class with you you'd have their access too. Some routes would naturally be destroyed so you'd have to constantly be on your toes to find different ways out, which might involve getting in a sub or suit and going out into the abyss, at which point god knows what you might attract.

I dunno I think it's partly human nature to be collectively scared of stuff. You see 10 people shitting themselves over something, your reptilian brain probably thinks the same thing, and makes up some nonsense for why you find it scary that may or may not align with what the original intent is. Like how birds fly away in groups from someone running at them, likely the bird furthest away may not have even seen it, but saw all the other birds fly off.

Personally I have always found deep sea more fascinating than scary, kind of like that Junji Ito short story it's always on the back of my mind. Have several books from a kid about stuff from sharks to deep sea chimaeras, been a life long interest. Also it's Ganker culture so frick off.

    >b-but 90% of the ocean is un-
Shut the frick up. We've mapped enough of the ocean to have a pretty good understanding of it, and the all species we don't know about are tiny ass fish and crabs

Also no, the deepest parts of the oceans likely couldn't sustain creatures of great size. You wanna know whales get so fricking big? They eat a lot, and the things they eat are so fricking tiny but plentiful, there isn't much to eat at the bottom of ocean besides those tiny things.

Not only that, but more sounds would have been captured from both it and other members of its species, assuming it isn't somehow a singular, immortal eldritch beast.

      >people think there is something nearly twice the mass of a blue whale living in the ocean
Fricking really? It would directly compete with the blue whale and starve to death because it would never find enough food.

      >but science has a bad habit of just attributing mundane explainations [sic] to things instead of researching them properly

    >Scientists and herpetologists who have studied Gustave claim that his uncommon size and weight impede his ability to hunt the species' usual agile prey such as fish, antelope and zebra, forcing him to attack larger animals such as hippopotamus, large buffalo and, to some extent, humans.

Nature is plenty scary on it's own, it does not need magical powers or be the size of a island.

There's also the sighted giant white wolves in northern Canada which haven't been officially documented. Also in new england there's "coydogs" which aren't coyotes but feral dogs that crossbred with coyotes or wolves (coydog, coywolf and dogote are technically their own separate things like a hinny vs a mule but the locals generally call them all coydog.) They generally don't have the shyness of coyotes or wolves but they've been much rarer as there are fewer small farms but if you go into places where it was very common for there to be small family farms (less than 50 acres of working land) they were a common fear and sighting for the farmers since they were much more brazen and aggressive.

The northern territories ones are have wider faces and are solitary suggesting they're timber wolves with gigantism. They've also been described as having bear like limbs and an otter like tail but I'm still going with the "mutant wolf shunned by pack that has to resort to solo hunting" angle.

Ah, so this is one of those "it's a cryptid bros, trust me" type deals.
At least you gave a somewhat reasonable "timber wolf with gigantism" explaination and not "there's a hidden population of dire wolves that still exist" shit. Even though 'bear-like limbs and otter tail' seems like stretch and something I'm sure it, if it's a real animal, doesn't have

Most cryptids are misidentified real animals.

Canadian myths/cryptids don't get enough love.

Go read about the Headless Valley if you wanna see some shit.

Check out Hammerson Peters on youtube if you don't know him. He does meticulous research and focuses mainly on Canada with a bit of northern US/Alaska. He has a bunch of videos on myths and legends of the Nahanni Valley but also stuff like ghost ships, phantom trains, indigenous myths and folklore, etc.

Gustave is definitely multiple crocs being amalgamated. Still cool though, and should be a boss in a big game hunting game.

bloop isn't real, it was just ice shelves cracking
but a game based on a fictionalization of the Bloop to be a big scary no-no monster would be cool

does anyone remember seeing a conceptual artwork for a huge green sea serpent that was reaching into the sky and eating an airplane or something? i remember it including some size comparisons like a human standing next to its eyeball, i cant find the original art for the life of me
it kind of looked like the brickleback from the sea beast movie

chances are that the deep sea doesn't actually have the leviathans we think they do, since they'd have to be essentially immobile. it's probably just a bunch of big fish trying to trick each other with flashing lights and camouflage, business as usual
