Tailoring is surprisingly fast with the books all the way up lvl 6, after that is the real grind. With fast foward you can grind in less than 5 minutes from 1 to 6 if you have the materials and the books. Literally one of the easiest and fastest skills to grind in the game.

well more like having melee be indepth with how you can interract wtih it like most other things in the game
i would be happy enough with the option to prioritize hitting a specific body part such as the head or legs
they talked about giving it a more dwarf fortress adventure mode combat system, but are reluctant because of how much they'll have to rework the combat system in place. i think recently they made it so you have a chance to hit gaps in armour, or target the head.
the most strategy you'll get out of cata is checking your encumbrance and movement, using terrain and obstacles to your advantage, and switching between 2 or more martial arts styles to inflict status and block. there's also biotics and mutations that can be activated, but you'll usually be using a firearm by the time you get those. gun customization gets pretty nuts when you really into the meat of it, and you'll be naming your favorite 3.07 rifle covered in attachments something after your dead relatives

I've played both of them and the only reasons I play Zomboid before CDDA are because
1) it's not turn based
2) it doesn't rely on the RNG.
3) It doesn't push itself to be overly realistic to a point it becomes tedious (Unless you're playing Bright Nights).
CDDA being turn based isn't a problem but you lose the adrenaline of a real time threat that forces you to act quick.
In terms of content CDDA wins by far.
The ability to craft and move around your own deathmobile, the CBMs, the martial arts, mutations and Enemy variety, are all great additions. But no matter how much content the game has, all the fun is shut down by all the autistic steps you have to do for every single thing.
Muh realism truly killed CDDA.
honestly the whole reason i stopped playing CDDA wasn't the amount of tedium it began to gather with realistic crafting times; weariness/resting, injury's, nutrition/dietary requirements, and inventory management/weight.
it helped contribute to it somewhat, but when they added a slew of new monsters based on the design doc of the blob and its ability's, i just felt like everything was falling apart.
the made the changes to the way you craft so you would have to enter the city's more to get scavenge for materials, weapons, armour and tools. before you could just smash a car apart with something heavy and then melt it down using makeshift tools, and build the proper tools from car slag. with one good trip to a mansion at night, you could bypass ever going into a city and have to deal with any of the dangerous zombies. you'd end up in endgame with survivor gear, and possibly a reinforced real ancient weapon that does 36 cutting and 12 bashing damage. not only that, but sometimes you'd also pick up a marshal art while raiding the place.
when they ruined this they added bloated zombies that as soon as they see or hear you, explode into flesh raptors. their sight range is 54 tiles for some reason and the raptors move incredibly fast, trip, and do massive cutting damage. they also spawn in packs of 9, so good luck surviving the early game if you get spotted. the biggest problem with these things was that for some reason, they thought it should spawn the fricking raptors on top of your character. so you're driving through a city in a deathrig, or a regular car, and turn a corner into a bloated zombie. at this point IT'LL FRICKING EXPLODE AND SPAWN 9 RAPTORS INTO THE CAR WITH YOU. no matter where you are, as soon as it sees you, bam 9 raptors infinity tripping you and bleeding the frick out of you. not only that, but they're tearing apart your armour and clothes because they do 24 cutting damage and attack with deft movements(they attack faster than normal enemies), while constantly tripping you leaving you unable to retaliate unless they somehow miss your unfortunate ass.
since then shit just keeps breaking at random, and they won't fix it unless there's enough outcry, or someone just does it themselves and they add a merge petition to the git. last time i played they added giant ladybugs that can deflect anything other than .50cal bullets, move as fast as feral runners, and deal moronic bleed damage with every bite. oh, and if you somehow survive one and get away (they can spawn in the early game), it can give you an infection.
i want to love this game, but holy frick is it shit right now.
one my favorite bugs i've encountered was when they overhauled boats. they messed with vehicle code so badly it made every thing considered a vehicle to float perfectly on water.
i found this out when my character drifted too far from a turn at highspeed and i skidded out into a nearby lake and was able to drive over to the other side. it was a world with a lot of water, and islands connected by bridges. to get somewhere would take a while, and i'd have to make sure that the bridges were clear of rubble if i wanted to blast down them at 600/km. instead though, i could just drive 2000/km over the water and explore hidden islands that you couldn't see on the map.
you can fix the flesh raptor yourself, but you are right frick them. they are the reason why i don't recommend night loots anymore.

It's pretty cheap and I got +100 hours of it. But i don't think it's for those who want some high octane action. It's a survival sim that despite feeling complete to me (has enough in it to call a full fledged game) it still has a vast room to improve.

There's no purpose/goal in the game, so there's no difference between dying on day 1 or day 100.
The game experience also consist only of breaking into place, loot place, kill zombies.

You set goals yourself. It's not The Forest. You survive as long as you can and do what you want in the meantime. So for example, one run you might wanna try to survive in the woods, another maybe try as someone in the city center, or with a character with specific disabilities, or a cop, etc.. There are mods that also help enhance and expand the roleplay options at disposal with more maps, more traits, different loot and building options. If this doesn't sound appealing, then yeah, it's not like there isn't a vast array of survival games out there. But i don't think there's another one who fill the niche of zomboid.

Its not like you have to but you are probably going to suffer encumberance because of it, if your backpack is light melee is still viable.
It's an annoying inconvenience to have to do it everytime since I wouldn't take my chances with losing even 10% of my hits which is all good but it just wastes time since it doesn't take that many turns to drop your backpack
it used to be a lot worse before the container update. your items would sit freely in your inv, and when you dropped your backpack it'd drop everything above the new volume limit onto the ground. so instead of picking up a heavy backpack, you were picking up 15 large items and wasting turns doing so. still though, it's better than having the backpack tear open after being attacked and everything falling out with no way to pick it back up.
a backpack stuffed to the brim will throw you off balance when attempting combat at low melee level. it stops being an issue at higher levels or when you get a gun.
in reality it is because of
although in practice a reinforced military pack can be upgraded to have a really high bash and cut resistance with decent coverage; and it is strapped to you, so you could comfortably wear 3 of them over other forms of protective equipment.
recently the amount of items in the pack affects its encumbrance and if you have nothing inside it, you won't have to drop it every time you encounter something.

You will walk out of their a ammo rich man, from as low as 1k 556 to 3k 556, 700 762x51m, 12-40 grenade, and 200 .50 cal with browning machine gun.

I tried it but got filtered by it. Imo it takes too much effort to make basic tools like a bow and arrows to have anything better than stones to hunt for food and you can't use melee weapons to defend yourself against hostile wildlife for some reason.
It does have pretty in depth survival mechanics tho, with having to keep warm by finding shelter or keeping a fire going and maintaining multiple layers of clothing. I'd recommend giving it a try with it's survival mode and see if you like it.

There is a good foundation for a game here but psychic zombies and stupid experience requirements make this unplayable for me.
I've done metalworking at school. It's not that difficult. You shouldn't need a PhD and 10 years of experience to weld two pieces of metal together.
Metalworking in this game is useless anyway since zombies will just headbutt metal sheets off windows just as easily as wooden barricades.
Exaggerating the ease of real welding and the difficulty in the game at the same time just makes you look stupid. Welding is a skilled trade and you still have a ways to go from holding metal together to making strong structural welds. You also don't need to level the skill much to do shit.
The skill xp balance is fricking moronic, though.

That's not even a first timer's weld. It's just a bad weld. A first timer's is even worse. They get the rod stuck to the gun while fumbling around unable to see anything.

CDDA is too tedious. The devs LOVE minutiae and having to do repetitive boring shit. They also love nerfing anything fun so nobody can enjoy themselves and they're forced to craft for 48 hours to make a paper airplane.

zombies being slower than your walking speed is what makes this game so boring because there is 0 challenge. Large horde in the middle of a city? Just make a noise and make them follow you, WALK to the other end of the city being completely safe because they can never catch up to you, run back and lose them, and you have the entire city empty and can loot whatever you want
Just discovering that you can do that is when you realize you've won the game and theres nothing else to do

kite them to the woods and right click, move here or whatever the thing is into the woods so you are pathed efficiently through the trees while zomboids get lost. then circle back around.
