No, making open world arpg games is relatively harder than making a linear experience soulslike, survivalcraft, or especially lootershooter
The climbing mechanic is also kinda core to it and only works because dragons dogma and monhun share a lot of models and code
Capcom themselves can't even replicate the more esoteric mechanics of MT framework games and the rest of the industry can't even make a souls like worth a damn by copying them. Short answer, lol no.
I am not sure. I just dont understand the fight. The first big guy you meet, I never did damage but I guess my team carried me. Now I am up against a three headed snake and no idea how to beat that either lol. It looks cool though.
Why would you want to in the first place? I was into DD1 the moment i saw gameplay of the bbi dungeon ages ago.
Lot of people on Ganker seem to like it and Ganker is never wrong.
if you're playing a melee vocation, you'd do well to climb the monsters and attack their weak spots
do not play on hard like
play on Hard, the progression is much better with the increased XP. Enemy defense doesn't go up, their damage does (so you'll actually die from something other then fall damage)
said. the exp scaling is fucked, you'll die in 1 hit from a goblin in the beginning and roll through the game by the end
Damage calculation in DD can be pretty stupid. It does a 'Threshold' method where you barely do any damage to enemies till your offensive stats break the defense threshold, then you do full damage. While annoying, you'll notice it less and less as you progress, just so long as you keep getting better gear.
Ok. I managed to cutt one of the heads off by shooting at it. Turns out I didnt need to get rid of its 9 health dots.
I now also remember what really put me off: I gave my companion a literal tranny voice, it is so fucking horrible - anyway to change the companion?
you made the companion yourself, you gave them that voice
a guy at the encampment shows up after you deal with the hydra that sells an item that lets you change the pawn's customization. it costs 5000 Rift Crystal, you're not going to be able to afford it at the beginning I don't think
You hit things to kill them. Dragon is unwinnable and hydra is largely scripted so after that you're in control. Upgrade your gear, gear stats matter a ton for damage while your actual character stats don't do much.

The intro isn't great. DD starts super rough but gets better and better as you go along. More classes, better gear, more monsters, and being able to mix and match class passives was fun too.
General rules of DD combat:
Enemies have a hidden stagger and knockdown healthbar younhave to deplete in order for those effects to take place. Steaggered enemies take approx x3 knockdown damage.
Knocked down and unaware enemies take extra damage.
Damage calculations are very close to linear in the game. That means that if an enemy has 10 defense and you have 9 attack you will not be able to damage it.
Damage comes approx 80% from your weapon, don't run with rusted shit everywhere and check the stores.
Moves you unlock later on can make or break some vocations for you. They can have a multitude of properties like i-frames, guaranteed knockdown effects, weird damage calculations etc.
You base your strategy around learning enemy weakspots and how to reach them or trigger a knockdown by exploiting their patterns and vulnerabilities. For example a Cyclops in pain because you hit its eye has very weak legs to trigger a knockdown.
Most games are considered a success or a failure in their first 2 weeks of being released, in fact, DD was considered something of a failure at first, it's only recently that Capcom said that it was somewhat of a success, and only because so much time has passed and there have been many ports and re-releases.
I think Capcom only let Itsuno make DD2 because he threatened to leave at some point.
so you're saying the game only sold well because Capcom put the effort to port it to many platforms instead of abandoning it, and that effort made a return? sounds like they care quite a lot about this franchise

I'm not sure if it was Capcom caring or Itsuno, I'm gonna assume it's the later.
And I think they made the effort to port the game to so many other platforms as to get additional income that they really lacked with the game original's release, and the truth is that the original game had a LOT of competition, Dark Souls and Skyrim were huge at their time, so, honestly, it's a miracle that we got DD2 at all.
it's way harder to make a dogma like than to make a soulslike
there is a reason why every indie dev chose to make a soulslike but you've never seen a skyrim-like despite the enormous demand for a game like skyrim
Skyrim is a game lauded for its narrative and modability while DD is praised for its mechanics and combat. They're completely different games despite sharing a similar medieval fantasy setting.
No.

Why the fuck can't I get into DD1. I want to so bad
Whats your problems with it?

I am a magician
You are playing a support class. You'll start really slow until you unlock Sorcerer when you reach Gran Soren.

use voice 1 or 4, those are the ones that are just the regular VA and not pitchshifted garble
>Ganker is never wrong
you sound like a massive homosexual, im glad its filtering you

Just play a strider.
Why would you want to in the first place? I was into DD1 the moment i saw gameplay of the bbi dungeon ages ago.
have you tried all the vocations?
play on Hard, the progression is much better with the increased XP. Enemy defense doesn't go up, their damage does (so you'll actually die from something other then fall damage)
Have you considered that the game simply isn't for you? In fact this game is pretty divisive I'd say.
This just happens sometimes. I myself want to get into Factorio very badly but I just can't do it. It's time to accept the truth and move on, anon.
The intro isn't great. DD starts super rough but gets better and better as you go along. More classes, better gear, more monsters, and being able to mix and match class passives was fun too.
It's a bad game, I don't know why you are trying to force yourself into enjoying it. Except for the reason of wanting to fit in tbh.
>If this does well
As much as I like DD1, this is not going to happen.

No, because then devs would have to copy how to make good games.
Yes, but they won't be very good at all.
are there even any Skyrim-likes out there?
The first Dragon's Dogma, although that's more of a "Skyrim at home" than a Skyrim-like.
It won't, it's shovel ware.
>If this does well
lmao
It's a miracle this even got a sequel. If I were you I'd think of this game as the last + 1 obligatory Dlc.
Dragon's Dogma is the 10th best selling Capcom franchise (with 1 game). it's also the only one in that top 10 list released on the 2010s
started on the 2010s, I mean
It took like 10 years for it to sell as well as it did, and it was obviously heavily discounted for the majority of that time...
the same can be said for every single game ever made
Most games are considered a success or a failure in their first 2 weeks of being released, in fact, DD was considered something of a failure at first, it's only recently that Capcom said that it was somewhat of a success, and only because so much time has passed and there have been many ports and re-releases.

yet they can't even get soulslike right despite the simplicity.
Ain't that the truth. Mortal Shell is alright though.
Doubt it, DD is a product of a director's passion.
The other studios only want the Fortnite money.
Fucking hope so. Souls-likes are getting saturated af, meanwhile I'm having trouble finding a vaguely similar game to DD.
I dont think any developer understand DD. If they try to make one, they will end up with skyrim in third-person.
That's pretty much what it is. What's to understand?
Skyrim is a game lauded for its narrative and modability while DD is praised for its mechanics and combat. They're completely different games despite sharing a similar medieval fantasy setting.
>Skyrim
>Lauded for its narrative
Is it really? I usually see normalfags talking about anything but the main quest.
Are you sure you've played DD?
I really want them to do a sci fi Dragon's Dogma. Like you woukd have mutant animals and plants, with physic based psychic power and all.
>capcom marketing keeps posting about enemy reskins
Do they not know this looks bad, people want to see totally new enemies not a goblin but green
