        >Where would you even go with the story?
Who cares? The OG XCOM went from regular aliens, to sea aliens, to aliens from a different dimension. With numerous years in between. Just make a threat and have you try and stop it.

All the story has to be is
        >Commander some bad shit popped up, we need to stop it
        The end.

Is Chimera Squad any good with mods? The idea of small scale breach focused combat sounds interesting but not if in reality it's implemented like a mobile game.

So did 2(whatever the aliens were rushing the avatar project as a result of) and to my knowledge Chimera Squad(just shows presumably Bradford and other members of the original XCOM being behind the chaos in that district).

Fun fact, apparently once you're done with the ending mission of Apocalypse it triggers an event where all remaining UFOs attack earth at once as one final fuck you to humanity. This is why in the ending cutscene earth is desolated.
Rarely anyone actually sees the event considering by that point the aliens no longer can create UFOs and the remaining UFOs get shot down by interceptors protecting your troop carrier on their way to the final mission.

I recently got war of the chosen and it's even worse. Literally every single in game day you get slapped with something, it's constant aggro from this mission and that mission and then the chosen fucking with you and appearing in pretty much every single mission to fuck with you. Never a moment to breathe. Feels pretty good to best them though.

Assuming the ayys from 2 are going to be allies in some way against the waterpeople, would they give the different alien races their own classes or be like the faction heroes in Chosen? Man, nu-Xcom's 2-point action system coupled with enemy pods, smaller squad size, soldier classes making them valuable instead of equipment, and timed missions really make the game feel like a slog at the beginning, but a complete breeze as you progress. The moment you fuck up when starting out, is the moment you activate doom spiral that will make the game progressively harder as you will have harder time dealing with crisis situations due to less tools available. Conversely, as you make it to a certain point where you have several trained teams on rotation, the game spreads it's buttcheeks for you.
