The game has a dynamic difficulty so its not really so much a problem to be getting hit every now and then. However if you really must know the secret to making RE4 much easier its that kicks have invincibility frames, so pop a headshot on one enemy then rush up and kick him to knock everyone around down.

the zombies are slow, take your time to aim, and always try for headshots, as they'll kill in the least amount of bullets. the game is generous with checkpoints, don't hesitate to start a section over again if you think you can do it better. remember you can combine herbs, never use one on its own, wait to combine it. eggs heal too. if you knock a zombie to the ground, you can use your knife on them if there's enough time.

Just wait for the remake. I've seen so many zoomers get filtered by oldschool RE and tank controls; there is no hope for you guys which is why it's being remade.

They are a valid set of rules imposed on the player that add to the tension because you can't maneuvre in total freedom and must be deliberate with your actions. A perfect blend of the oldschool position-based combat of classic RE with the more conventional shooter genre that is able to set itself apart from both in a fun, unique way. Are you some kind of autist that only eats tendies for every meal? Variety is nice right? Why limit yourself to one type of playstyle?

Hardest part of the game is probably chapter 2. After that it gets easier.

Shoot isolated enemies in the head or knees, then run up and do the melee command prompt on them. When they're on the ground you can slash them with the knife to conserve ammo. The headshot melee (kick) is also good for crowd control.

Buy treasure maps, they more than pay got themselves. Don't sell treasures that can be combined into better treasures like the beer stein/catseyes and the elegant mask/gems until they're complete

    For weapons:
    1. Swap handgun for the free punisher you get for shooting the 15 blue medals. Buy the Red 9 when it's available and sell the punisher. The red9 is the most powerful handgun bullet for bullet but I would recommend selling it for the blacktail when it becomes available just because it take sup less space and is more versatile. The starter handgun gets an upgrade that increases its critical headshot chance massively but you get it fairly late in the game and get stuck with kind of a crappy pistol through most of the hardest parts of the game until then. Either way, don't buy upgrades until you settle on your final weapon.

For shotguns, sell the standard shotgun for the riot gun. Then sell that for the striker. The riot gun is my personal favorite but the striker is probably better for a newbie.

For snipers buy the bolt action rifle when it's available, then sell it for the semi-auto.

TMP is a good weapon but it's optional I'd say. Especially if you're getting the blacktail. If you don't have the money/space for it you can skip it.

For magnums you can get a broken butterfly for free in a room you can only reach with Ashley so don't buy it. I would sell that for a Killer 7 when it becomes available because it's more powerful for a longer period of the game when you need it. Capacity upgrades give you a free reload which is massively good for magnums because the ammo is rare, so try to save upgrading capacity when your ammo is low

The stretch from the cabin to Mendez is probably the roughest part of the game just because you're weapons aren't great yet and they stretch your resources thin, especially if you fight both the second gigante and the bella sisters.

I'm sticking with the default handgun this pro playthrough just because I want to experience the exclusive upgrade. I always rely on Red9's massive damage, so this should be interesting.

        Anonymous

The Punisher is also surprisingly good. Its ultimate upgrade lets it shoot through multiple targets. It's useful specifically against all the enemies with riot shields later in the game, since the ultimate counts the shield as if it were a regular target and lets you basically ignore it.

The Blacktail is fricking terrible though, no idea why anyone would use it.

          Anonymous

The punisher already shoots though shields, the unique upgrade lets it pass through 5 enemies instead of just 2 which has very limited uses (and you can just use a rifle for the same thing) and the paltry 1.9 max damage is shit. Worst pistol easily.

Blacktail has a 4.5 max damage and actually beats the red 9 in sheer dps from its fire rate. Considering you aim faster with it, it has very steady aim without a stock, it can save you inventory room by being a surrogate TMP and just not being as big as the red9, it's a good gun. Sheer damage isn't everything. Although it was moronic that the red9 AND the blacktail got buffed from 3.5 and 5.0 damage in the gamecube version to 4.5 and 6.5 in the re-releases. They were like the weapons least in need of a buff.

            >Considering you aim faster with it
That's not a good thing. "aiming faster" in this sense just means you have jacked up mouse acceleration with the Blacktail and Riot gun. It's actively a hindrance compared to everything else.
You say the Blacktail can be a surrogate TMP, but it's the opposite, the TMP is just a better Blacktail, and you'll get way more ammo for it to boot.

semi auto rifle sucks ass bolt action does way more damage only punk b***hes use semi

        Anonymous

You don't get the bolt-action exclusive until 4-3 and is weaker than the semi-auto until then. Most of the time you're using a rifle you're killing ganados who will be one-shot by either rifle, and once again the fire-rate of the semi-auto actually puts its dps above the bolt-action., not to mention extremely helpful with regenerators and iron maidens especially on pro where they all have extra plagas on their backs. So the bolt-action has inventory space and damage per bullet efficiency against pretty much just bosses (big deal) over the semi-auto. Remember that the game never really leaves you hanging with ammo anyway and will give you more if you start to run out. (which also applies to the red9 vs blacktail debate)

You should play with a controller as intended and balanced for. The point is the blacktail is a good stopgap between the TMP and the Red9 and takes up far less space so you can carry around whatever else you want. It's the most beginner-friendly pistol because of its versatility.
