DoK had the best campaign writing since starcraft 1. Very refreshing to have concrete objectives, a logitical support element, and supporting forces.

Still hoping this and RA2 get a remaster given the shit Petroglyph dug out of the EA Westwood archives in an attempt to source C&C1/RA1's original uncompressed footage.
I've given up on it happening. it's been 3 years and Petroglyph is working on other shit. Not sure how they dropped the ball this hard, but then again it is EA.
wow that shadow realms section is hurtful, besides SC and the C&C games the others I wouldn't describe as irredeemable
Planetary Annihilation was hurt more by drama and weird design decisions than anything else, and the fact that it just gets beat out in it's subgenre by the titan that is supcom. There's a lot of good feature ideas, and adding the space level is interesting, and even the super weapons are fun the first couple of times before the game wears out its welcome.
Grey Goo was a nice attempt at a "classic" RTS just as the genre was entering the dark times, though it was certainly too little too late. Maybe aped star craft a bit too hard, but they tried some things and the campaign was serviceable at least.
And CoH2's problems were more "meta" with the DLC and microtransaction BS, and the game itself got its shit together eventually before Relic fully fell off a cliff

it was more like a sector control tower-defense game where your units ran down pre-set routes and you used Ruses to feed your enemy false info to bait him out (decoy divisions, blocking his vision of an area etc)

Happens on 4080s even because it has nothing to do with GPU or CPU utilization, the engine simply can't keep up with all the pathfinding and projectiles when there are hundreds of units on the field. I don't know why you're even contesting it when it's a very well known fact about the game.

I am so mad at EA and Westwood because Command and Conquer: Generals and Zero Hour are the only RTS games I want to play against custom AI and the fucking thing is coded so horribly you get a random mismatch (ends the match abruptly) even in an offline singleplayer skirmish.

All video games can be distilled to pointless clicking if you think about it.
I tried it out a few months ago when it was on sale. Even the in-game tutorials now teaches you how to execute build orders and target certain times for age up/units built etc. The MP is basically 100% no fun allowed, you will do the xbow/knight spam or you will lose. Even though the game is largely the same, the magic just isn't there anymore.
I guess the campaign is still kinda fun even though I've already played through all of them in the OG edition.
>don't make a good game in over a decade >people finally catch on to you
I'm surprised Sega hasn't closed them outright but I guess they're hoping for Homeworld 3 to turn out go... oh, wait. Relic isn't even doing Homeworld 3. Honestly surprised they haven't just closed them in that case. Maybe they have some remaining contractual obligations with AoE4?
Outside of blackbird I have no faith in any modern RTS developer. The best I can hope for is a RA2 remaster from petroglyph which I'm half convinced they will fuck up and outsource it to some Malaysian art farm.
Has there been any news on more C&C remakes? Seems weird they would pick the most boomer entry then skip the shit everyone actually wants.
>The best I can hope for is a RA2 remaster from petroglyph which I'm half convinced they will fuck up and outsource it to some Malaysian art farm.
Didn't EA manage to throw away the development material for RA2 just like they did with the Bladerunner game?
Both EA and Microsoft regret closing them. Looking at Microsoft now scratching at the dirt for absolute shit tier developers is sad. EA's entire history is criminal yet Westwood stands out as one of their worst crimes.
If only they could have seen how rare and valuable good developers are, they only appreciate them when everyone is gone and all the money in the world now buys them teams full of pay check collecting grifters. I resent respawn for allowing themselves to be bought and revive EA, they were 1 step away from facing the consequences of their actions.
Westwood was also multi-talented. They weren't just a one-trick pony game dev who only excelled at one genre. Real fucking shame what EA did to them and pushing for C&C and nothing but C&C later on its studio life.
You could try shadow tactics or desperado 3. They are clearly influenced by commandos but they are not very subtle or serious like it.
Desperados series giving me some Commandos vibes yeah. Will check those out when a sale comes along.
I hope that their sins will haunt them and their gaming ventures falter so that we can have better, more competent publishers and decent developers back again. Here's to a dream that the Golden age of RTSs will be reborn.
>Has there been any news on more C&C remakes?
on this, how was the C&C1 remake?
from what i heard it was pretty good, like Diablo 2's remaster.
is it worth the $5 it is on sale sometimes?
It's one of the few remasters where I've sat on the new graphics nearly the whole time, and it does the thing (which all of these should do) with the realtime graphics toggle. I love the remaster, although you'll have to excuse their attempts at AI upscaling/smoothing shitty low-rez interlaced 320x200 source videos since they couldn't find the uncompressed originals (they actually tried to find them). Wish they just kept the option to play the original vids since the game install actually includes all of the OG game files in addition to the new ones, so they could have simply pulled from that.
Other than that, it's a 95% faithful remake. Near every single quirk/exploit/bullshit-AI thing is in there, and I wouldn't have had it any other way. Main highlight of the package is Klepacki remastering all of the music himself. Fucking hell it still sounds fantastic.
The only thing I can say is if you've never played C&C1, it might feel dated compared to the RTS to follow it. The AI cheats (as it did in the original due to bugs), and once you learn certain strategies/setups, you end up abusing them because the game gets unfair as hell later in the campaigns.
>love Commandos series to death >can't seem to ever get into squad-based RTS
Does the Commandos series even count as an RTS? Fuck I could use more games like it.
>get that RTS itch >zoomers online said that northgard is the best RTS they've played >try it out >it's literally a mobile game with bare minimum RTS mechanics
This is getting ridiculous. Why does every single current day devs get the RTS formula do wrong? They keep adding unnecessary mechanics and delete necessary ones when the RTS formula had already been perfected back in 2000s.
RTS is a strange genre where all the tangentially related or successor genres blew up and became mega popular but the source hit a brick wall and died instantly.
MOBA, grand strategy, 4x, srpgs all thriving while RTS is permanently ded.
I had this exact same experience and thought I must have played the wrong fucking "Northgard", because it is absolutely mobile tier yet heralded as some great RTS for the ages.

we'll see, old AoM still works fine and I don't play it anymore anyway, but it would be nice to know that quality stuff is still being made
I still have the CD for AoM. The installer used to show unit information slides, it was really cool.
I am so mad at EA and Westwood because Command and Conquer: Generals and Zero Hour are the only RTS games I want to play against custom AI and the fucking thing is coded so horribly you get a random mismatch (ends the match abruptly) even in an offline singleplayer skirmish.
>I’m assisted to AOE2
somebody explain what does that mean, i even tried translator and still dont get it
This is fun for single player
>tower defense game
First TD is a fun genre, second, you have the wrong game, retard.
Show me the base building of that game then
It's more of a tactical game, but that doesn't mean TD, RTT is better than RTS anyways
>RTT is better than RTS anyways
Well, what a shitty opinion.
>RTS: follow building macro then 'A' move all units on the enemy base
>RTT: deep combat system that requires ACTUAL tactics, terrain analysis and witty
Retard. You will never understand the worth of comfy RTS games.
He's not wrong about typical RTS "macro" just being "don't forget to queue units" which is entirely pointless APM bloat.
>complains about RTS being played with typical macro
If you are playing RTSs like you are playing competitive multiplayer all the time then you are playing it wrong.
"typical macro" is not an excuse, BAR has shown just how much better RTS can be if you do without such archaic design limitations and focus more on overall strategy, map control, economic balance and micro
and then you have Zero-K which has even more and better mechanics and tools to let the player focus on things, rather than having to zoom around and babysit retarded units and base expansion
>entirely pointless APM bloat.
as if there isn't pointless apm bloat when controlling units by clicking the same pixel 1837 times a second
All video games can be distilled to pointless clicking if you think about it.
It might be a simple C&C clone but I still like it, especially with the expansions.
I considered getting it on sale, I saw there were so many differente 8-bit games though
>tfw no Mechcommander fan game using the Spring RTS engine
Life is suffering.
Esports has ruined AOE2.
You can always join noob friendly diplo games
DEAD GENRE LOL

>dow3
>coh3
>aoe4
yeah, rip
>don't make a good game in over a decade
>people finally catch on to you
I'm surprised Sega hasn't closed them outright but I guess they're hoping for Homeworld 3 to turn out go... oh, wait. Relic isn't even doing Homeworld 3. Honestly surprised they haven't just closed them in that case. Maybe they have some remaining contractual obligations with AoE4?
>bad game studio closes
Tell me it is bad for RTS games again? This will lead to better competent studios to take up the RTS mantle.
Surely Starcra- I mean Stormgate will save us
Lol no that is dead on arrival but tempest rising has some chance.
>Outside of blackbird I have no faith in any modern RTS developer
God if only Westwood or ensemble studios were still alive.
The AI cheats (as it did in the original due to bugs), and once you learn certain strategies/setups, you end up abusing them because the game gets unfair as hell later in the campaigns.
>love Commandos series to death
>can't seem to ever get into squad-based RTS
Does the Commandos series even count as an RTS? Fuck I could use more games like it.
You could try shadow tactics or desperado 3. They are clearly influenced by commandos but they are not very subtle or serious like it.
>get that RTS itch
>zoomers online said that northgard is the best RTS they've played
>try it out
>it's literally a mobile game with bare minimum RTS mechanics
This is getting ridiculous. Why does every single current day devs get the RTS formula do wrong? They keep adding unnecessary mechanics and delete necessary ones when the RTS formula had already been perfected back in 2000s.
RTS is a strange genre where all the tangentially related or successor genres blew up and became mega popular but the source hit a brick wall and died instantly.
MOBA, grand strategy, 4x, srpgs all thriving while RTS is permanently ded.
Isn't grand strategy also glued to effectively 1 publisher that has 3 well established series and everything else tends to implode?
I had this exact same experience and thought I must have played the wrong fucking "Northgard", because it is absolutely mobile tier yet heralded as some great RTS for the ages.
>C&C - dead
>Warcraft - dead for 20 years
>Starcraft - dead
>World in Conflict - bought by Ub*Soft and now they help with AC
>CoH - shitty third game, already dead
>Stronghold - dead
RTSbros...
To continue the list,
>The Settlers - dead
>Dawn of war - third game killed it
>supreme commander - ded
>Total annihilation- also dead
>C&C
keeps getting clones made of it
>Warcraft
no new games, but has a few shitty indie copies and war3 has alive community
wouldn't want to see anything new from current blizz anyway
>Starcraft
same as warcraft
>WoC
yep, dead and maybe has one similar game to it. small active community still plays
>CoH
yes, but community still pretty much alive for CoH2 too
>Stronghold
new one released two years ago
>Settlers
new one released a few months ago
>DoW
yeah, it's dead
both previous games have alive community as far as I know with mods being made
>SupCom
Sanctuary might be good, but FAF is alive
>TA
spring engine games are good and alive
tbh I don't even know the point of your posts
This is a huge cope post. The point is none of the shitty clones or iterations are even remotely close to being good. Hence they are considered as dying or dead.
>The point is none of the shitty clones or iterations are even remotely close to being good
only true for c&c and sc, but if you clone trash you get trash so that's understandable
The best to ever do it
HOMEWORLD 3 WHEN?
Have the most fun in CoH with this simple trick!
>Hah hah nebelwerfer barrage go poowam poowam poowam
RTS/RTT bros... Will this game be another stinky or will it actually be any good?
Probably depends on your tolerance for jank.
