Is NullDC still the go-to or is there something better/newer? I've heard about Redream but I don't want to spend money.

Thanks /vr/

Probably try ReDream for Dreamcast emulation

Posted this and then read the rest of your post. If you can't get Redream running (it's free btw), try Flycast core for RetroArch. Works fine but maybe not as good as Redream with enhancements.

Alright I'll try to hunt down redream on a torrent tracker or somewhere. I imagine the free version has some limitations
        Thanks

Redream is free if you dont want to go up to 4K. That is the only thing you pay for. I have heard it is the best.
I did beat Shenmue with NullDC but still many bugs.

    Wondering what is the best.

Oh that sounds good then, thanks. Yeah I'm at 1080p anyway. Great

I find it hilarious that newbies STILL don't know the go to website to know what emulator is the best at the moment.
Asking about emulators is truly is the biggest /vr/ newbie filter there is.

I don’t know why everyone is recommending bad emulators, flycast is the one you want

Yep. Even has a fork with rollback netcode that works stupidly well.

I don't blame you for asking this, but I am saddened by all the emulator misinformation out there that this need be asked at all. The sodden Gen X homosexuals here spending hundreds of dollars to avoid emulation INSIST that SNES and N64 emulation haven't progressed since the ZNES and Project64 days, because... there is no reason.

I remember seeing threads on Ganker about PJ64 recently and it's wild to me that people still use it when Mupen64Plus/AE exists. Same with ZSNES

They're still used because they're ludo and some autistic troony screaming a shadow doesn't appear accurate 1% of the time won't stop us.

You don't need to be angry, anyone should use the emulator that works for their machine. The important part is pirating games and spiting modern publishers.

You're the one rushing in here to complain about people using an emulator you dislike. Maybe look in the mirror before posting.

PJ64 literally had maleware in it at one point.

Literally anyone that still installs that shit nowadays should get a bullet to the head.

Code Veronica has a GC version that probably emulates way better. Unless you specifically want the DC version.

Im experiencing shitton of input lag in CV both on redream and flycast

Is there a way to fix it, and is it better on gamecube?

The lag is most likely to do with your vsync or frame rate
        Lag shouldn’t be noticeable

I find this to be a good place to keep up with which emulators are recommended. It's hard to know since a lot of emulator discourse is based on outdated information. People who say reDream is the ZSnes of DC emulation aren't correct, in my experience it's pretty good but not as good as Flycast. Something old like NullDC is closer to being the ZSnes of emulation since it's no longer updated and there's no real reason to use it anymore.

Flycast on RetroArch mogs every other DC emulator by a mile. Very low lag, runs very well even with 4k upscale, and pretty damn accurate. Also has all the usual dozens of advantages of all RetroArch cores, aside from run-ahead which it doesn't support.

You can get a model 1 Dreamcast for like $99 bucks, or at least you could six months ago. Grab a fat stack of CD-Rs and burn away.

      >Grab a fat stack of CD-Rs and burn away.
That won't really get you the full experience in many cases. Most rips downgraded the audio/cutscene quality in order to fit on a CD, since there was a capacity difference between a 1 GB GD-ROM and a CD-ROM. Even the last generation of 99-minute CDs came up 100 megs short (and they had worse reliability than lower cap ones as well).
Though I vaguely remember some Chinese guy about 8 or 9 years ago coming up with a new recompiling algorithm for the libraries, which allowed for a full GD-ROM to fit on a 900 MB CD without the previously-required downgrades. However I think that method put higher stress on the optical drive.

How, it's reading 0's and 1's all the same in the same square microns

Pressed discs are easier read than burnt ones and GD-ROMs are over a smaller area than CD’s

You can use the ReDream free version, but you only can use the original Sega Dreamcast resolution (no x2, x3, etc...)

Do any emus besides Flycast emulate the modem? It can play a lot of games online because of that.
