I'm getting hard filtered. My first Tactics game besides Disgaea 1 and 2, but I never finished those.

My first Tactics game besides Disgaea 1 and 2, but I never finished those.
I feel like I'm doing something fundamentally wrong or don't have the right understanding of how these sorts of games are supposed to be played.

Fft is really eccentric and slow by today's standards. It's beloved because it was high-quality and the first to really poke through. Id recomend FFTA, it's ogre battle for the everyman, and its just very playable and fun

abuse the enemy AI to force them into choke points where you can bomb them with magic and archers. it’s been awhile since I played FFT but outside of a few well known filters (fricking Weigraf) it really shouldn’t be that hard, my guess is you’re being too aggressive where it’s more a game of reacting

You keep one enemy alive and use Shout with everyone to build up AP

It's a RPG, just level up and gear up... I used to do tons of random battles before going into the main event.

Don't worry. It's fricking hard at the beginning when your characters have low hp pools and you don't know what classes work well.

It is a game where a little bit of grinding goes a long way.

Ramaza's speed boosting move (Tailwind? can't remember) can be used to grind up Job Points and exp. Kill the enemy team down to the last man and then have your guys stand in a cross around a monk with the healing move and have them punch the shit out of each other for mountains of JP/exp.

Auto potion from the chemist is a broken skill (sell all your pots, use only Hi-pots) as are knights with Dual Wield from the Ninja class.

It's one of those games where grinding is a must.

unironically shit like this is fricking gay as shit and moronic.
if grinding is the answer instead of tactics the game is dogshit. im glad future srpg move away from this trope.

You don't need to grind to beat FFT.

Dude, why do you think random battles even exist?
Thankfully FFT is not Disgaea, you don't really need to grind for hours on end, but you'll need to do some grinding, or break the game.
Also, random battles are fun. Some of my best memories in this game were random battles.

Play the new Tactics Ogre Reborn then.

        It's much better.

This is some of the easiest Tactics game ever where you can get broken unknowingly.

How shit are you, OP? What classes are you using?

if you grind too much you will suffer since the monsters scale with the party
more about grinding JP than XP which was one of the weaknesses of the game -> take worthless actions that reward JP rather than finishing battles quickly is the best strategy

It's a very badly designed game which pushes you to buy a guide to figure out broken builds before you even play it. Despite the title there are essentially no tactics involved, it's a numbers game where you win solely through grinding autism.

Just play Fire Emblem 7, it's made by people who actually understand gameplay, unlike Squaresoft.

      >Calls tactics autism

Modern day I wouldn't suggest playing these game usless you're training an A.I. with autoplay. They pack them with he mobile versions. OP you should try Phantom Brigade and support the present day. Real nice self defining difficulty system were you can get away with 2 fighters if you do the right things.

It has a bit of a learning curve and some genuinely tough main quest battles, particularly one later in the game that can lead to a softlock if you didn't keep multiple saves. Get double JP passives for everyone and try to unlock a skill for everyone that gives them JP so you get to accumulate it even if you can't attack the enemy. Ramza's shout is a good example, but for other characters just throwing rocks at your support characters is a decent idea. The first half is also much tougher than the second half.

Also get acquainted with the menus. You will want to check turn orders all the time, and plan your aim/jump/magicks (you can see when they're executed by pressing triangle) so you don't hit empty tiles.

I beat this game when I was around ten years old and I don't remember having any trouble. Zoomers really need their hands held for even the tiniest thing, don't they?

One of the best parts about FFT is that if you aren't a soulless homosexual who spends hours grinding then the high stakes story battles are actually high stakes and feel like a proper life and death struggle. The difficulty is tuned perfectly and it's disgusting to see so many people so eager to ruin the game for themselves because they prefer mindlessly easy battles.

Get a thief on your team or put steal on your secondary slot and steal enemies weapons , saved me a lot of money
Also if you don't want to play the grinding game get mediator job and just recruit monsters and breed them until you get tier 3 monsters and wreck shit up

If anyone wants some recommended fft romhacks , play the war of the lions tweak mod
It not only buffs classes that were shit like archer , reduces jp grind significantly and changes bad weapon formulas you can also get the 40+ multiplayer only items and weapons via move-finder or on recruitable characters now
Hell even the equip weapon support abilities gives a 20% damage boost to the specific weapon now instead of it being a useless ass support no one uses , shit is fun and give it a try

I don't give a shit , males and females now have the same stats so agrias and meliadoul are finally not shit physical attackers now , it's a good change and I can finally make a male black mage that isn't neutered because males have less magic power than females

      >battle condition: kill this guy
just kill that guy. don't worry about the others unless they have healers and even then, you can usually burst someone down.
      >fundaments
Don't sleep on these, especially stone. Don't advance on a tough enemy, let them come to you and peg them with stones
      >Positioning
If they have any kind of mage, white or black, don't stand in a cross. You're begging to get fira'd
      >death timer
It doesn't matter if someone goes down, you have a long time to finish the battle before that unit is gone for good. Especially if the battle conditions are "kill x"

Also this. the base game is good but the tweaks make it better. You don't have to grind for levels, just think about how you're playing.

        >You don't have to grind for levels, just think about how you're playing.
That's already the case in the base game unless you're literally moronic.

idk what happened to me with this game. i was all over this game as a kid. i completed it and was confident it was one of my favorite games of all time.

People like a lot of dumb shit when they're children, that's the entire reason Square has an audience, because they cater to the moronic tastes of 12 year olds.
