I'm going to get my 1st ever gaming laptop this holiday and it's pic related. I want to have it on my chest while I'm lying in bed, and I put a binder between my chest and my current laptop.
I'm not going to entertain an argument about getting a "small form factor PC".
My maximum budget is $2500, is there a better gaming laptop???
do you already have a desktop pc?
I don't have a desltop PC although I DO have a 32'' 4K monitor. It sits on my dresser in front of my desk.
I could just plug in my 1440 resolution gaming laptop and enjoy 4K resolution gaming output.
It amuses me that so many people sperg out over gaming laptops, not everyone has a big room.
**desktop PC**
Post your goblin hole, it can’t possibly be smaller than mine, the other half of this room is my single bed
Do you live in a closet?
My desk fits the room barely, but it's super comfy.
>I could just plug in my 1440 resolution gaming laptop and enjoy 4K resolution gaming output.
Good luck playing modern games at 4k with a laptop gpu lmao
>gaming
>laptop
pick one.
Just get a MacBook you stupid nagger. Video games are goyslop anyway
this
>MacBook
do americans really?
>gaming laptop
You're an idiot. Get a PC.
Yeah and they all wear hats indoors for some reason. It's really weird.
macbook?
what?
get an Asus tuf/rog, Acer laptops are really low quality shit
you must be lost, this is not the LGBT board
he's right shiteater, videogames are for dumb lgbtmuttnaggers
Thanks for the bait, bunkerbro. Next time sound more convincing.
Gaming laptops are fine used them for over 10 years only weird thing is OP being a fat motherfucker and wants to have it on top of his chest while lying
they are still noisy as fuck
>itt: it's 2010
you know when they say a laptop has like a 4070ti that in reality it's going to run like a videocard that would be $200-300 cheaper in a desktop right
because you are jamming all the shit together in a little plastic box that can't run much electricty through it or its shitty cooling will fail
plus they always break within a few years because the hot and cold cycles and motion/flexing will rapidly age the solder joints
no gaming laptops ever ever
Actually the "entry tier" cards are usually pretty close to their desktop counterparts, but the higher you go, the more the gap widens. Laptop 4070 and 4090 are total scams for example (one's a 4060ti and the other is an energy starved 4080 that performs more like a 4070ti)
Nigga get a pc and an hdmi cable.
Should probably get getting DDR5 if you're paying that much.
The SSD is overkill for a laptop. more suited to desktop OS drive.
>my maximum budget is $2,500
your budget should be $5000 because youll have to buy another one in two years when all the internals start malfunctioning because it idles at 80c
If you aren't underage don't even bother these things get so hot and loud you'll never make use of the portable aspect and might as well just get a desktop or a steam deck
It's not awful, honestly. 5.5 lbs is decently light for a machine specced like this, but I'd be very concerned about cooling. You may be better serves with something like Asus' Zephyrus line. They're lighter and better specced, but also more expensive. My biggest gripe with Acer is they're somewhat more difficult to open for cleaning, whereas Asus is usually very accessible, but I'm only going off of personal experience.
Don't get an intel CPU, their newer gens are god awful.
Don't bother with anything that's 8GB VRAM or below, as games are already pushing past it.
Basically, this means you need a laptop that's at 3k$+, otherwise you literally get beat by a 800-1000$ PC with 2 gen old parts (3 years old+).
>don't bother with anything less than 8GB
VRAM e-dick measuring is entirely placebo. Realtime game tests prove this.
I would've agreed with you if it was 2 years ago, but VR games, newer AAA titles, Unreal 5 titles and so forth are showing up to be pretty VRAM hungry and having more than 8gb is easily not enough for a 'smooth' experience. Slightly older games are already hovering at around 6-8gb at 1080p/1440p (ex. CoD). VRAM is 'enough' until it suddenly isn't. A good example is the RX580 4GB vs 8GB. One is currently borderline unusable, while the other one can still run most newer games at acceptable performance.
>Basically, this means you need a laptop that's at 3k$+
You can find 6850xt lenovo legions for less than $2k now
I've seen a "new item, damaged box" one for 1.3k
>$2500 for a 3070
i hardly get half an hour without playing any games i think im fucked
Don't buy a gaming laptop as your main computer
>if any component on the motherboard dies you have to replace the entirety of it for the same price as buying another laptop
>you can hear airplane jet noises when gaming
>you won't get more than 3 hours of battery life WITHOUT playing games
>You can't upgrade anything other than the ram or storage
t. fell for the gayming laptop meme
its has its uses
>job requires me to be in another person's home for hours
>frequently nothing to do but cant leave because i need to be there to drop off and receive things
>can do light gaming and all the things a computer can do normally
I basically have to use them because I've only ever found the keyboard layouts that I can use (lefty using arrows) on them and I can't find fucking anybody that makes custom layouts for desktop keyboards. And I don't mean shit like fancy switches or colorful keycaps. I want the position of the individual keys to be very specific.
Just learn to use the mouse in your right hand idiot.
>$2500
For that money you could get a Steam Deck for comfy playing in bed and an actual gaming PC. Why are you retarded?
if you NEED a laptop, go for Lenovo Legion laptops
these Nitro laptops are power constrained with terrible thermals, and sub-par gpu performance
i'd recommend going for a PC + Steam Deck to play on the go, if you travel a lot
if it's for college, pc+budget laptop is fine
You can buy a cheaper platform and add the RAM and SSD on your own foe $1000 less, just make sure the processor and graphic card are good
>gaming laptop
naggercattle
I have an early 2011 Macbook Pro that has lasted me for OVER 12 years. I upgraded the HDD to a 1TB SSD and then eventually to a 2TB SSD over the years. I also upgrade the RAM to 16GB which is the maximum. I also almost ALWAYS use my Macbook on top of a cheap binder on my chest while I'm lying in bed. This makes browsing the web SO MUCH more comfier, I can NEVER see myself NOT doing this with my gaming laptop.
I want a gaming laptop that will last me 10-12 years and my maximum bidget is $2500-$3000, most likely $2500. My room is really small and only has 2 outlets and so a gaming laptop makes sense. I can't get a "small form factor PC" because my desk is too small, especially with my drawing tablet/Switch there. I also imagine that I have to buy a big desk just for a PC since there's so much parts I have to assemble, not to mention assembling the desk which is out of the fucking question. I've already made up my mind on getting a gaming laptop.
My early 2011 Macbook Pro probably has 1 more year left from now just for regular browsing and art/video making.
This will be my 1st gaming laptop, is there any gaming laptop that's better than pic related???
This is what I'm using now, I simply need a gaming laptop.
alright buddy, if you need a gaming laptop get this
https://www.newegg.com/black-hasee-tx-gaming/p/2WC-004U-00041
If you wanted a laptop that would last 10-12 years, you wouldn't get a 3070m TI. At best, you'd play like 2 big games that are coming out next year.
Macbooks are better than ever due to M1/2/3 being undisputed industry leaders in effiency. Why would you switch now?
You could probably be able to get a 4080 laptop with that budget. It should blow the mobile 3070ti out of the water
>3070Ti
Why do they never point out that it's a mobile card? Retards like OP think it's as powerful as the real thing. Hey OP, you see those hinges on the laptop? Acer is fucking infamous for making dogshit hinges, if you don't want a laptop that will literally snap in half one day go look somewhere else.
Back in the 10xx generation they're almost the same chip. Not anymore.
they're getting the actual 3070ti chip, they just don't tell you it's getting like 1/4th the electricity it would get in a desktop to keep it from melting into a pile of slag
just get a steam deck/alternative and save the rest of the money for when you realize you wanna sit at a desk like a normal person
This. Doubles as a work laptop easily, if you get those foldable keyboards with touchpads.
only fags use laptops for gaming
>laptops are bad because I remember watching those laptop reviews in 2010 where they had bad thermals and throttling!
bad thermals are always going to be an issue with laptops. also, your cpu, ram, and gpu are all cucked mobile versions and will never perform the same as their desktop equivalents. Go ahead, pay 2k for the hotbox cucked 3070 that will perform like a desktop 1660 super.
>he thinks they magically fixed thermals and throttling
Kek you stupid bitch, my intel/gtx 2070 laptop throttled at 95C, you're a fucking CHUMP if you think the heatsink and cooler is gonna bring that shit down unless you undervolt the fuck out of your laptop lmao
My vector above has never throttled. What brand/line is it that you have?
i dont remember, I gave that shit away to a relative almost a year ago now
>brainlet tards who dont know shit about computers think they can "sass" their way out of having to replace their craptop every few years
you're fucking stupid, enjoy your wasted money, tard
3070ti why would you spend 2500 on a laptop with a gpu a gen behind.
Have my owning gaming laptop for when I'm not using my desktop. Go to actual shops and look at them. You want air directed out the back, like the msi vector series. Not like Katana. Katana are gay.
you can get a 4070 and i9 13th gen for less than 2k... MSI too so no Acer build quality shit
Hey, I gave you good advice. Now it's time to give you bad advice.
If it's just for gaming i guess it's a good waste of money
Which one is better???
mf just look at the fucking hinges and overall build quality of the Nitro 5, it's a fucking awful line if you're looking for something that lasts 10 years I already told you this
dont know what the fuck a hasee is but if its not lying about the components then its better
This is literally the 1st time I've seen "hasee". I don't trust it, then again, I'm unsure if Newegg is trustworthy to begin with,
im guessing youre versed on computers but not the websites you buy them on? newegg is the standard digital store for most pc parts.
lmfao newegg is literally one of the biggest PC parts and just random shit in general stores online, man, you are not ready for this purchase
Go do some more surface level research mf
>hasee
What the fuck are you doing anon. Buy a reputable and serious brand. Msi was mentioned. Go to a store and look at them. Like a physical store. There are electronic shops and pc parts stores that stock them.
>Buy a reputable and serious brand
>msi
Nigga what the fuck are you on.
MSI laptops are trash unless you go for the most expensive top of the line shit
And nowadays all chink brands just use a Clevo platform anyway
do NOT buy MSI.
I repair laptops at work and every week we get MSI laptops with busted hinges that require full display assembly replacements (~$300 parts+labor). I've already seen two people who had their hinges replaced just to have it happen again within 6 months. This is a known issue that has plagued multiple MSI SKUs for years.
So YOU wouldn't reccommend this too???
I was beginning to think that this looks promising, now I'm changing my mind. lol
chink crap, don't buy it
MSI is a good value but thats a high end laptop. they are ok if you want to spent 800-1200, but at 2k I would go for a razer or lenovo or asus
lmao I can find new 4060 laptops for the equivalent of like 1000-1100$ (I'm not a burger though)
From what I've seen, if you've absolutely got to have a gaming laptop, ASUS or Lenovo build the best for your money. If you got a fat wallet and don't mind gamer aesthetic, Dell's Alienware are unironically really well built and serviceable.
>dell laptop
FUCK DELL. NEVER AGAIN. I borrowed a dell laptop from my school and it made the loudest fucking beep in the middle of the night. It was on sleep mode and it started beeping loud and I have to force shut it down via power button.
Fuck dell, never again.
Is Alienware any good?
Fuck nevermind, I just found out that alienware IS dell. lol nevermind.
Sounds like the laptop was overheating due to Windows's dogshit sleep-state handling that will cook a CPU randomly every once in a while.
Not really Dell's fault, and the beeping is to warn you that a piece of hardware is approaching a critical failure point. It's a feature, not a bug 🙂
Alienware is now owned by Dell, yes. But Dell probably has the most ambitious and experienced engineering division out of any manufactures for gaming laptops. We never really get any in for any hardware related issues.
Since you repair laptops, what gaming laptops would YOU reccommend???
ASUS??? Lenovo???
Also I believe you on the whole "shitty hinge" aspect because the hinges on my Macbook Pro broke 6 years ago and I went throught hell and back just to fix them MYSELF.
Lenovo's Legion line or ASUS's Zephyrus or M16. They have about the same (good) build quality, albeit the ASUS machines are more compact and slim design. Downside for ASUS being they will get hotter (shorter component life span), and the GPU+CPU will thermal throttle or TDP throttle in modern titles. Downside for Lenovo is we see them sometimes with BIOS/iGPU/MUX switch issues from time to time.
I see, it sonuds like Lenovo is the slightly better choice then. Also I was looking at best buy and I saw a sold out MSI laptop and the fucking hinges are small with a big gap. Now I know what you mean, I'll think more about this.
4070 mobile is dogshit
go for either 4060 or 4080
8gb VRAM just like the 1070 7y ago
Pspro has 20
>on a binder
no, order one of these from amazon. cooler master nitro X slim or some shit, it's like 20 bucks and the fan will keep your chest cool
forgot the pic
Recommend me a gaming laptop that actually has good single core performance, I only use this shit to play mods of 15 year old games anyway.
Okay anons, if you have $2500-$3000 and traveled often, what gaming laptop would YOU BUY???
A steam deck if its just for gaming
A netbook for work
Definitely a 4080 laptop. All the main brands have one
Okay anons, if you had $2500-$3000 and traveled often, what gaming laptop would YOU BUY???
Bros help me decide the amd device us about 100usd cheaper, what do?
>Lenovo Legion 7 16ARHA7 Gaming Laptop,16" WQXGA 165Hz Display, AMD Ryzen 9 6900HX, 32GB RAM, 1TB SSD,12GB AMD Radeon RX 6850M XT,
Vs
>Lenovo Legion Slim 7 16IRH8 Gaming Laptop, 16" 3.2K IPS 165Hz Display, Intel Core i7-13700H CPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, GeForce RTX 4060 8GB GPU
>6850M XT
if you read it right and that's not a 6650m xt, either you're getting a really good deal for the AMD laptop or a really shit one for the 4060 one, because the 6850m is way better than the 4060m
>gaming
>laptop
You couldn't pay me to play videogames on a 15.6" screen. Gaming laptops are a torture device.
If you absolutely need to play while laying down like some sort of walrus, buy a portable monitor and put that on top of your fat belly.
>You couldn't pay me to play videogames on a 15.6" screen. Gaming laptops are a torture device.
I use a razer laptop because I travel for work a lot and it's been perfectly fine. Battery life is horrendous even with all the gaming shit turned off. But I like to game while traveling. You get used to 15.6" after a while but it's definitely torture at first. 17" laptops are fuckhuge but I think if I could do it again I'd get a 17" just to get closer to 27" 1440p im used to
22" is the minimum screen size for me, anything smaller is not worth it.
If I had to bring a pc with me, I'd just spend $700 on some cheap ass laptop and play 2D old games exclusively I guess. Then I'd use the remaining money on a real computer.
I play it while waging on night shifts
I have a 32'' 4K monitor and and I can just hook up my gaming laptop to it and enjoy 4K output.
Gaming in bed isn't all it's cracked up to be, I've found it's better to keep that contained for just general shenanigans while your primary rig is the classic desk setup and having a hookup to your TV in case you want to lounge.
nah i like having a bedside console like a wii u or a steam deck, a gaming laptop is not it though, shits a fire hazard if you're gonna play it on the bed, plus you gotta hook up headphones, controllers/mouse, maybe even an HDD, it's just a lot of shit
I strongly advise you not to do it. They run hot, are noisy and never reach full capacity since they're throttling all the time.
Best to spend that money into a streaming device you can easily have in bed with you.
There’s really no advice to give if you NEED the gaming laptop just buy it, you already know the downside, you’ll be having trouble with new games on that 3070ti before long, so if you don’t care then enjoy.
Cheers anon. I just want a gaming laptop that will last me 12 years like my early 2011 macbook pro has.
That's not too much to ask and I'm not even looking for the highest specs possible, just a reliable long-lasting gaming laptop. My budget is $2500 and I prefer a 15'' screen max, 32GB RAM, 2 TB SSD. I'm just don't know about what NVIDIA specs I should get though, I'm seeing different suggestions.
Well what is it you want to play and how well do you want to play it? 12 years is a lot to ask from any computer. Laptops are weird and have different manufacturers than desktop parts, so who can tell how well made they are without some researching on google and gaming forums or Reddit.
You don't need 4k on a fucking laptop dude, but i doubt there's 3070 ti /3080 ones with 1080p panels.
This laptop doesn't have 4K support, just 1440p.
I DO have a 4K monitor and I could just plug in my gaming laptop and enjoy 4K output. 🙂
what laptop should i get if im only using it for writing in final draft and making music with ableton?
Unironically an M2 Macbook.
Get a lenovo legion 7, I don't care how much over the budget you have to go, just get it and never have to worry about gaming again.
