oh i didnt get very far into the game myself. got to diamond city and fell off it.

Why are buildings in this game so bubbly and colorful? It's such an eyesore.

they wanted to contrast old boston architecture with stuff that drew from the bold colors and shapes of their pseudo 50s americana look.

It had to run on 360 and PS3, so yes, a lot of it is Bethesda's ideas being incongruent with hardware limitations.
Though sometimes they just make dumb decisions like cutting half of DC's areas (most were finished) and putting themselves through hell trying to sew it all back together into something coherent.

                >sometimes they just make dumb decisions like cutting half of DC's areas
It would've never worked on the PS3, Fallout 3 already had massive fps and stuttering problems and the only reason why the PS3 version didn't catch fire with Skyrim was due to the fact of the lack of npcs and city density

                Anonymous

DC's areas were all separate cells, wouldn't have made much of a difference in performance assuming all were of similar detail to what we got in the final game.

                Anonymous

Not him. Doesn't Fallout 3 pushes for the absolute limits of a double-layer DVD drive? Only PlayStation had Blu-ray Discs.

                Anonymous

I don't think a game that came out within two years of the PS3's launch would be pushing anything regarding hardware.
It was more so developer neutering the absolute frick out of their games because nobody had any idea how to develop for THE CELL™.

                Anonymous

Well I mean yeah that might have factored into the removal as well, depending on if they needed any new assets for the areas they cut. Which I doubt, as Bethesda was pretty conservative with unique assets for the neighborhoods of DC, they liked to make things that could be used anywhere when it came to the city. The data making up the new cells that the cut neighborhoods would have taken up could probably be measured in a few megabytes, if that, since it's primarily just cell settings (weather, lighting, name etc.), positions of objects placed in the cell, positions of points for the navmesh triangles.

God, I absolutely hate the art style of Fallout 4. They took all the edge out of it, literally, everything is too bulbous. They didn't even attempt to make it look like any of the others. The best looking stuff in the game are things they ripped from the others.

FO3 had some serious edge to it. They're like the exact opposite. FO3 had some experimental looking designs and concepts whilst 4 wanted to deflate everything into pudgy or rubbery looking designs.

4 was coming off the success of Skyrim which was huge in Asia. So 4 got hit with the blood elf equation.

It's all because of Adamowicz dying. You'll notice that a lot of what people like about from the artstyle of 3 and Skyrim is from him, but then he died during Fallout 4's production so they had to do a new style which is nowhere near as creative or expressive as his. It's why Starfield is so soulless too, because there wasn't any of his art to go on.
