im looking for an rpg to play, kinda in feel like those older games like wizardry or might and magic where you could make your own custom party, choosing the class and race combination for each and dungeon crawl with your own dudes instead of some static premade companions
i also particularly liked the first person grid map exploration and turn based combat but thats not a particular requirement
please give me some recommendations, dont care if it's a wrpg or jrpg or whatever, just that it runs on something newer than windows xp and vista cuz im tired of just replaying the same old shit
Here you go, anon.
bro better be good.
>roms games dot net
Bro you realize internet archive is a thing right
what
you can find entire romsets on IA. download the whole thing or just the games you want.
Dark Spire fucks hard.
It's like wizardry 4--5 but a little less evil.
The style is great, wish more dungeon crawlers had that flair.
It's real good, etrian 3 is also dope on ds.
etrian odyssey
Seconding this. The exploration might be a little light for Wizardry fans but the combat is superb.
As a caveat, don't start with the first. It's strengths don't shine as brightly there. I'd recommend starting with 3 or 4.
looks like the sort of stuff im looking for, thanks, though any other recs are appreciated
anything else by the same devs worth looking into?
shin megami tensei strange journey if you want less weeb shit and more occult shit, but it's a ds game
SMT Strange Journey is really good as well, there are also the Persona Q games but I haven't played any of them so I can't vouch for them
ill admit, i hadnt considered checking out the smt spinoffs and only played the main series, so thanks
You could also check out SMT soul hackers too. It plays in a similar manner to the early SMT games, being a dungeon crawler. I recommend the 3ds version.
not OP but do i have to play the first two etrian odysseys before the third one? how often are the first two games referenced in 3?
No, the stories are all independent. If you finish 1 you get a code you can import into 2, but it just gives you some starting items that don't matter after the first sanctum and bonus dialog implying you're the same guild from the first game.
I'm not sure if there's any references from 3 to 2? Starting at 3 is perfectly fine; 3 is arguably the best in the series.
thanks
No, every EO game is self contained, except for EO Nexus on the 3DS, which is just fanservice of all EO games.
There are SOME references of 1 in 2 but that's pretty much it.
>Music CD Included
how the fuck do you fit a CD in a DS?
Are these sorts of games difficult to make? It feels like it would be pretty easy to put together once you've got all the base mechanics down. Then you can just make a bunch of funky maps and monsters.
You can even make them in RPG Maker 2000/2003 if you understand the basic theory.
what are the games in your pic?
Not him, but lower left is Rothdam
Making a ton of monsters requires a budget.
SMT franchise
i played them, liked the older ones the most but the other were also good
still, im looking for something closer to 1 and 2 than the newer stuff like 5, while also not being like two decades old
theres a touhou clone of the older SMTs coming out next week
https://store.steampowered.com/app/2248430/Touhou_Artificial_Dream_in_Arcadia/
This one?
yeah
Oh shit that game's finally coming out?
Awesome
Wizardry Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord just came out on steam the other day, a remake of the apple2 version. I would pirate it since its 30 bucks for early access but apparently has the entire game.
While on the topic, is the Ganker recommended wiki still the site that has the game list pictures for each genre? I haven't looked in a long while and forgot where to find them, but i remember seeing a "blobber" recommendation picture list. Anyone anons got insight where to find them again? My google isn't resulting in anything useful.
what the fuck? this came out two days ago with 0 announcement
its like they want this to fail, which is a huge shame since it looks amazing AND stays loyal to the original game with optional QoL improvements instead of changing everything for no reason like most modern remakes
shit even has an option to have the original apple ii graphics display as an overlay
that price is just too damn outrageous, and the version doesn't really bring anything new to the table
I would have bought it it was the werdna story, but using 6-8 gameplay for example
The Etrian Odyssey remasters are on discount rn, give them a shot. 3 is the best.
This
shill me on it
It's a great old-school-yet-modern dungeon crawler, complete with your party building, secret hunting, puzzle solving, crafting mechanics (as in, alchemy), etc., etc.
I recommend playing 1 before 2, because while both are amazing games, 2 is slightly better.
Also check out the custom maps, some of them are tens of hours long.
what are some good modern blobbers on pc, dont wanna emulate or use a vm
Labyrinth of Zangetsu
Undernauts: Labyrinth of Yomi
Dungeon Travelers 2
Labyrinth of Touhou
why are they all labyrinth of x
Arigatou gozaimasu, sensei!
Legend Of Grimrock 1-2
Elminage Gothic. Made by the people who ported the Wizardry games onto Japanese consoles and also hard as fuck (the 3DS version is a casualized mess, avoid it)
labyrinth of refrain games are the tits too
on the difficult side with some fun horror elements
