I'm making a gunslinger character. What technological disciplines are worth it?

I'm making a gunslinger character. What technological disciplines are worth it? Also is it worth putting points into the tech discipline because I heard you can just use books to level up the disciplines? I don't want to waste points. Any other tips for gunslingers?

I just started off as the premade half elf character with this face. I'm thinking of dabbling heavily into magic.

Spam Harm. It's cheesy, but great. You should also master teleportation magic. It makes it easier to get around later in the game.

You can buy books at the Tarant University (750gp each) to increase your effective skill, but not learn schematics in the tree. Helps with making stuff outside of your chosen disciplines when using found schematics.
Personally, Herbalism is always worth it for the HP/FP restoration, but that's a personal choice. You can supplement some disciplines using followers, but usually limited to the first few ranks. Gunsmithy might be the obvious choice, but up to you.

The books are expensive and heavy.
Everyone usually goes smithing 3 or 4 for balanced swords and pyro axes for the party, and I think you need some smithing to make the vendigroth guns anyway.
Something to think about is that cranking your tech aptitude will give you magic resistance against EVERYTHING, so having vergil in the group means he will just knock himself unconscious spamming white necromancy on you for no effect.

If you want to play guns, spend a fate point to pickpocket the looking glass rifle from the firearms master in ashbury.

It's painful starting out because you'll crit fail more often, but once you overcome the initial magick aptitude it's the same as a normal tech character.
