Pretty much. Only time I've ever looked up rotation guides was for the end-game shit where having an optimized opener is a boon, but anything prior to then it means jack shit for the overall length of a dungeon.

Just don't be the dumbass single-targeting shit when there's 3+ enemies.

The game doesn't tell you how to play your job. In XIV it's very important to know your rotation, you will get blacklisted for not doing it right. Something like double life of the dragon is mandatory, but someone starting would never realize this even after completing the whole MSQ. Multiplayer games are not like single-player games where discovery is part of the fun, you are griefing other players by not playing at your optimal. Don't blame the player, blame the devs for not making intuitive job guides.

The game does a pretty good job of that, actually.
Read your skills, sort the skill page, read the tutorial that pops up when you unlock a new mechanic and you can play at least 80% effectively.
Only BLM isn't intuitive about how it works.

It's on the tooltips on your skills. In fact everywhere that you can see the skill icon is another place for you to read your skill and what it does. These aren't some kind of incomprehensibly complex math problem, it's just reading the button added to your bar.
            >Hmmm, I just unlocked a skill called Chaotic Spring (let's pretend it's not Chaos Thrust+)
            >Deals 100 damage in general, 140 when used on the rear, so it has a rear damage potency bonus and should be used on the rear
            >Oh it also is a Combo Action that comes after I use Disembowel, so I should figure out how to best use Disembowel before I figure out how to best use Chaos Spring
            >As you can also see on the list, the Potencies as a Combo Action are MASSIVELY higher than the general Potencies without it being a Combo Action, and there's even two Combo Bonuses, so this thing should really be used as a Combo skill
Done. All of the information you could ever want on a skill is either on that skill itself, or it will otherwise specify what skill/status requirement is needed on each skill.

There is more to standard rotations. Buffs go out 3rd or 4th GCD in order to stay aligned with Tech Step.

                Anonymous

You can argue about the complexity of optimization, but your base rotation is literally just making sure you use your skills when they make sense. Using a combo action is a core part of the rotation. Using your buffs is a helpful part of the rotation, but your burst window being optimized is only something you figure out when you're trying to clean it up. The basics of a rotation are not the perfect final production of a rotation, and if we're talking about needing a guide to do a rotation, it's something you'd have to be actually not reading your tooltips to figure out.

                Anonymous

That's optimization based on party comp, not learning your rotation.

Sprouts who are still learning are some of the better players in the game. It's obvious they know nothing and with that they are usually willing to improve.

What's worse are the flowers and Perfect Legends who only play the game every 6-12 months for the story patches - they think they know how to play the game but they don't and they make everything harder for the group they are currently in. It's impossible to reason with those players.

You have to understand that this game appeals to lots of different gamers. Gatekeeping it by saying "if you don't like the MSQ then frick off" is moron mode. It shouldn't be necessary to do TEN YEARS of content to catch up. No other MMO does that.

You're coming here trying to dictate what should be done for the game, because you think mmo's should be Endgame raids. Raidgays are fricking moronic by design, you play an mmo and the only think you care about is small numbered instanced combat encounters.

      As and

No, if you are not doing ultimates or the latest savage just play your way. I have been playing this game for over three years and I play all jobs and often play while im drunk and having my mentor crown enabled.
Tryhards are gays, just have fun

said, the normal game is so braindead that you need no actual skill to do everything that isn't extreme, savage, or ultimate. Or your moron party dies to a dungeon boss and you end up soloing it.
Either way, 90% of the content is made for people who have trouble breathing and pressing buttons at the same time. If you've ever leave a parser on during normal trials or alliance raids, it's fricking sad how bad people are.
The difficulty and fun of XIV isn't in the rotation, it's optimizing the rotation through fights and making both dances fit together. That's what a standard opener is for. It's a starting point that gets everything on CD that needs to be while getting the most GCDs under buffs that it can. You'll never get higher than blue if you just follow the cookie cutter shit, but then again even knowing how to do a rotation makes you better than most players and if you're getting blues you're still clearing the fight.

You vastly underestimate how shit people are at the game. EX has no entry barrier, so all the shitters try to do them. It's not the EX that's hard, it's carrying hard enough to clear with moron pugs.
          >never getting above a blue with generic drg rotation
I'm speaking generally because I play tank. I'm sure if you get funneled gear then you could do the most fricked up rotation and get a purple in the first weeks.
          >parsing in normal raids
Yes, you can do this when you forget to turn your parser off after raids. Who the frick actually parses normal difficulty on purpose?

I always figured that was the “prostitutes” fetish, not the johns. I can’t imagine paying some dude 100k or w/e so he can get off on pretending to be a desirable catgirl. I could see paying someone for the more niche / taboo stuff (like a guy who was good at dominance /rape stuff), but you don’t see that shit advertised.

mostly because the market is heavily tilted towards hiring subs, since dogshit doms are a dime a dozen going around with *slaps ass* intros. the only way those people get any partners is paying for them, and so there's higher supply to meet that demand.

i don't have much reference (because i only charge for time because that's house rules, otherwise i'm not going to charge people to typefrick) BUT i think the price for e-sex is the same across subs and doms, it's just the demand is way higher for subs
why that doesn't affect value idk, digital prostitutes don't like economics i guess?

I quit playing dom because most subs are fricking awful, they can't last twenty minutes and then just disconnect. I tried sub out, but most doms are absolutely fricking shit at writing and are gigantic ESL's it seems, with some not even knowing what third person writing is like. I've been fortunate enough to at least find one good consistent partner and I just end up writing what I'd want done to me, for him.

You don't need to know your rotations to play the game.
Trust me - the only people who know how to do their rotation are those you find in your daily main story roulette - cause those are leveling autists who play the game for 8 hours a day and want to max out every job.
But people who play the actual content like new raids, alliance raids, dungeons or savage are for the most parts shitters who try that content once for the clear and after that never again.

Rotations are usually something that come about naturally as you play the game and get used to all your job's skills. There's debate over the "right" ones, but most of the time skills will naturally lead into each other and you'll optimize them yourself over time since you're just pressing those buttons so much. Stop stressing over which buttons to press in which order and let yourself learn your job naturally.

The people that say you should play another game if you don't like the story are the same people who asked for normal mode raids when they couldn't experience the Coil storyline.
It's good that they added normal mode, so people could enjoy the story without being forced to raid. Now do the reverse. Don't force someone to do the story if all they want is the raid.
If you don't see how these are similar, you're a hypocrite. MSQ shouldn't be mandatory.

Clearly, because if you did you'd know there's zero player expression in that game. You don't have customisation or any choice at all, you've got one (1) way to play a class and you either do it or effectively troll yourself and everybody around you by playing the game wrong
It's a XIV issue, not an MMO issue

          Optimal =/= viable

That would only highlight how little variety there is in XIV compared to the competition with 3x the "specs" minimum, doesn't fix the railroaded character progression either

                Anonymous

I swear to frick I've had this discussion with "people" like you for years. FFXIV doesn't have a thousand little pips to make custom characters because your little flashy "slime summoner" build that makes really funny 100-HP slimes that do almost no damage would get filtered out of play because nobody would tolerate it for serious content, and the devs would either have to make real content balanced around ~50IQ meme builds or would be putting a giant wall in front of anything but the most optimized builds for endgame content in the first place. If you made nine variations on SAM, and only one of them was found to be effective in anything but the lowest level of play, that would mean that 8/9 SAM builds would not see play beyond RP parties or Hunt Trains, and the only valid one would represent any and all other SAM players in all other content. "Expression" only matters in situations where you are not inherently bringing others down for the sake of your artistic creation that cannot help with any content in the game.

The most ironic bit here is that in the two actual Expression regions of the game (Bozja/Eureka), homosexuals like you do not do anything to mix up your jobs. The ones who complain about builds the most don't use Irregular or Aetherweaver or Double Edge to genuinely play different because those are actually a break from the norm.

The devs already balance content around quadruple amputees and people who can't count to three, what do you really have to lose from class variety at this pint?

                Anonymous

Considering those quadruple amputees and people who can't count to three are still incapable of handling at-level Savage raids and /any/ Ultimate, and still struggle to get through Exploratory Zones without extensive guides, I'd rather they keep those people in the cuckshed and balance the game around Japanese players. If you want real Class Variety, I'd rather it be more in how each Job works (something akin to the PvP way of expressing each Job's specialties a little more prominently) than having "builds" that nobody will ever use other than the proven job that deals 0.0000001% higher DPS than the next one.

    t. DRG specialist, (all pink latest savage tier in 6.4, penta on drg alone, multiple pinks in ults, etc)

tl;dr, are you just looking to do the minimum of your rotation? Then yes, that is the basic level 90 rotation every time. In all casual content.
DRG's basic rotation is very rigid, weaves you can move around a bit depending on fight but you generally want to keep everything within buffs as much as possible. I see the basic rotation as wax on/wax off. where you get buffed by disembowel combo and then do actual damage with thrust combo. You will be doing this 10-GCD sequence every time you have a single target.
When you have two targets (and only 2 targets), it's actually optimal to constantly go through the dot combo (even throwing in a life surge on the chaos) so long as the two targets dont die too quickly. This is boring in TEA, but fun in DSR. Then it becomes a game of auto-attack timing, which is a thing. (You lose autoattack if you swap targets at the wrong time)
The 3+ target AOE combo is just the generic doom spike combo, throw in your cleaves and CDs where you can.
When you get to actual optimization shit, shit like early/delaying life becomes giga important and so does bullshit fricking openers for high jump/mirage dive (DSR/TOP both have this fricking problem) due to boss phasing and your rotation gets pretty fricking autismal from that point depending on phase kill time.
So not "every time" if you get really deep into it, but also probably every time for what you're asking. GCD order does not change at any point, however.
An hour spent learning your rotation will be regained in time saved in duties/roulettes within like a week or two or some shit, so long as you actually fricking do your rotation. Good damage and bad damage makes that much of a difference.

I don’t mind parsehomosexualry in general (because I don’t play dps except in old content lmao) but it has an absolutely cancerous effect on healers, both in spazzing out about getting a “green parse” and griefing the shit out of their co-healer or flat out wiping due to refusing to gcd heal.

No, it’s entirely an offline competition that exists outside of the game itself. Your own party will like you more for tanking your dps wasting gcds to keep them at high health so if they accidentally fail a mechanic they survive, or letting the SAM intentionally get clipped for third eye, etc, but third party websites penalize you for it.

XIV's a WoWclone by design so genuinely yes in this case

It was Everquest, Zoomers forget that WoW is not an original game by design it "borrowed" most of it's design from Ultima Online and Everquest and iterated on those designs. People using the old argument that FFXIV cloned WoW while WoW did exactly the same and still does to this day. Dragon riding, the gimmick in it's Dragonflight Expansion was stolen, copied from GW2 completely shamelessly, the War Within is a pretty blatant attempt at garnering the FFXIV story lover crowd by having an overarching story, even with the HEAR....THINK...FEEL in the cgi trailer.

But people said FFXI was an EQ clone and FFXI didn't have rotations. There were things it obviously made sense to do in a certain order, but not always. It depended on the situation.

FFXI does have rotations though. They are just way more impacted by subjobs and gear because those aspects actually matter in that game unlike FF14.

you have very obvious thief openers as an example.
or debuffing orders on red mages. keeping enmity rolling on a paladin was also very rotational.
the game is very slow, but that doesnt change that you approach a lot of stuff the same way.
you just dont mash stuff nonstop, and of course there's a lot of situational stuff which the FF14 devs are too lazy/incompetent to implement.

                >you have very obvious thief openers as an example
What? Like what? Thief has SATA, but it isn't always obvious when or where you should do it. Ideally, you'd want to Trick Attack onto the tank, but if the monster is facing the tank, you can't Sneak Attack at the same time. So you either need to separate SATA, or get someone else to pull hate off the tank. Not every party is going to agree which is superior. The other melee not be able to pull hate or they might be too much of a glass cannon they're afraid to take the hits. Now you might point out THFs get Hide which means they can SA from the front, and that's all fine and good, but Hide has a 5 minute cooldown, so now what? There's also Skillchains and the question of where you are in the Skillchain order that might change how you want to approach this situation. I was in a party once no one would be my TA buddy and so I did it on no one (because macro) but at the last microsecond our Taru WHM hopped up and flew in front of me. It was really dumb but also really funny (this was pre-A/C). This is a random party and maybe you're not talking about that, maybe you're talking about end-game, but honestly THF damage in end-game is garbage, they're mostly used for sac pulling, so I don't think they're thinking too deeply about the order they use their abilities in.
                >or debuffing orders on red mages
I was a RDM main for four years. I have no idea what you're talking about with debuff orders. Some debuffs don't work on certain mobs. Some debuffs are so hard to stick on certain mobs and there's other stuff that require your attention/MP that it's better not casting them at all. Some debuffs are actually better from other jobs so you wouldn't use them if that job's in your party. But also, none of them interact with each other, so it's not like it makes sense to cast them in a certain order, and they typically don't wear off at the same time so recasting won't have an order either.

                Anonymous

NTA but RDM sorta does have a debuff order now in current ffxi.
They added Frazzle which reduces MEVA, so you want to ensure that lands first as it will make all your other debuffs more accurate.
If you want to go full autism you'll cast frazzle 2 first since it's got an instant cast/cd and then frazzle 3 which is slower.
After that you'll do silence (if applicable) and then slow/para after.
Then distract after that to help your melees hit more
Depending on enemy, you won't bother with para/slow. Just distract. Dyna D wave 3 is a good example of this.
It's not really a rotation though, more of a priority system

needing to adjust your rotations doesnt change that rotations still exist and are core to the game.

In FFXIV I can think of one instantly: in the Alliance Raid World of Darkness, a knowledgeable player would delay attaching the chain to Cerberus until the last moment to give the raid as much free dps as possible, because when you do it, the boss starts dashing around and actively attacking, but the goal ultimately is to attach the chain or the boss wipes the raid, but you are given so much time before it occurs that you can afford to wait a little. The same applies to interrupting abilities with a long cast, the longer the enemy takes to cast something the less time he is swinging at your face. Not using your mitigations until mage stuns from Holy start wearing off completely in a larger pull when it is gathered, although it's not really necessary unless your group severely lacks for damage. DPS using stuns on mobs in a dungeon known to be troublesome while the tank is busy managing the crowd, or just to reduce incoming damage. Using Reprisal on raidwides and dps using feint or addle, demonstrates knowledge. In WoW, when pulling aggro from a ranged only enemy finding something to line of sight behind to draw the enemies in. There's less opportunity to do so in FFXIV, so instead of doing that, you should tank the melee pack on top of the casters so that everyone is hit by aoe. Inexperienced tanks always leave the casters and ranged out and that leads to slowing down the pace.

GW2. There's "meta" builds but since the game is widely casual you can use whatever weapons or builds you want. Most stuff is open world and there's no parsing so it never matters how much dps you do. And since skills are tied to weapons you can play however you want.

      >Who's responsible for this? WoW?
      DAoC
Most of the melee classes in the game had positional combos like Dragoon and Monk do in FF14, with low cooldown insta cast nukes that you had to weave in between.

They weren't anywhere near as complex as the shit you get in FF14 where rotations are like 45 second windows of a specific skill order, but there were some rotations that were 8-10 seconds of specific skill order every minute or so when all the CDs were fully refreshed.

No other MMO at the time had a system as complex, and no MMO would take the complexity introduced in DAoC and expand on it in a meaningful way into WoW raids (specifically T2/T3 in vanilla when the rotations first really started becoming a thing)

DAoC was not popular enough for anyone to copy, plus it was a PvP focused MMO.

DAoC was the second highest populated MMO pre-WoW and was literally within like 50,000 subs of EQ at one point.
PVP MMO or not it still had weapon abilities that added more power when used in proper succession (ie. combos) that you could weave class based spells in between which created the entire 'rotation' thing in MMOs.

WoW stole the public quest system from the Warhammer MMO. WoW stole shit from Aion, from AC, from basically any MMO that had an interesting and unique feature, WoW was there and ready to cannablize it. The rotation system in DAoC was one of the many things they took from popular MMOs at the time.

As a wow player trying out FFXIV, i'm having a hard time levelling.
    >Story quests, feature/job quests and optionnal quests
Trying to loregay and quests through the zones gives too much XP and now you're ahead of the story curve and shits aint fun anymore.
Talking about zones, coming from WoW, everything looks off.

    >Dungeons, missions, mandates
What I mean is, in wow, even classic, you enter a zone, you complete quests related to the zone, you're introduced to the local dungeons, you assemble a team and there it is. In FFXIV dungeons are somewhat tied to the story questines that take you wherever the frick they do, no link to any zone in particular.
    >orst is, if you try to play the game, you get too much xp and when you get into a dungeon group or on certain parts of story quests, your levelled is reduced to match some xp criteria. you literally cannot be ahead of the curve in 14 since you get lvl synced down for everything but field monsters which do not matter at any point.

Do not do any quests that don't have a main quest or important side quest icon (the little blue + sign). If you just do those 2 things you can't go wayward. The only thing you can randomly loot from enemies is crafting materials which you won't care about for at least 50 hours because crafting is pointless unless you intend to start maxing all the crafting classes.

      you are right about everything.
you can mitigate overleveling in the MSQ by leveling another job on the side. you will probably want multiple jobs leveled at some point anyways and its an annoying task so might as well soak up MSQ exp.
yellow exclamation mark quests are near pointless.
item drops are almost all for crafters.

      >In FFXIV dungeons are somewhat tied to the story questines that take you wherever the frick they do, no link to any zone in particular.
The very first three dungeons you have involve you first learning the lore about the region, including the dungeon that's off in the distance, and then walking directly to the dungeon and entering it. There is literally not one dungeon in the entire game that is completely disconnected, unless you're insinuating that being an instance is where the disconnect lies.

      >Questing
Stick to the MSQ quest (has it's own unique icon) and blue !+ quests.
The blue !+ quests are quests that generally add a new feature or unlock something - new job, new dungeons, new cosmetic abilities, etc etc.
You will drastically outlevel the MSQ if you do ONLY the MSQ quests, so don't worry about it. You're constantly synced down to the zone level that you're in so you can never get too far ahead of the curve.
      >Dungeons
Majority of them are unlocked by doing the MSQ. The rest are unlocked from blue !+ quests.
      >Items
Everything you pick up from mobs is going to be some kind of crafting material. Not worth worrying about or dealing with unless you specifically want to be a crafter, and generally by the time someone decides they want to go all in on crafting they have millions and millions of gil and can just buy all the mats they need off the AH.
      >Aresenal
All gear has it's own unique backpack slots - something like 24 by default for each specific equipment slot - weapons/shield, helmet, chest, gloves, etc etc. Any gear you get that fits into one of those equipment slots goes into the specific bag. Once that specific bag is full, it will overflow into your general inventory (usually weapons or accessories will be first)

Black person why are you such in a hurry if you're tyring to be a loregay, is this a falseflag or something
just the free trial alone has like 300 hours worth of content, this time can easily double if you bother doing every sidequest
but don't do that, just focus on the msq for now
why do you care about overleveling the msq? this shouldn't be a concern if your main objective is reading the story
don't bother with the hassle of leveling multiple jobs at once like some people suggests, just focus on maximizing one class until the end of SB, there will be plenty of side content to speed level alts if you feel like trying something else

There's some geniune good bits of story, but the vast majority of it is middle of the road at it's absolute best. Full of tons of fetch quests, awful pacing, deadfully dull combat until the mid 70s, and literally like 400 hours of story content you have to play through to get to the current raid content - or pay like 200$ to skip it all.

Of course I have. Yoshi hasn't though. RDM is about as far from an RDM as possible while still retaining the aesthetic. All you do is cast offensive magic. Zero defensive outside literally raise and cure. The other white magic is just white magic in name/animation alone.
Just remove it so that the caster imbalance isn't completely fricked.

That's pretty accurate to any Red Mage that isn't from FF1 or FF11, given WHM and BLM's own spell lists in XIV. They don't have Confuse, Toad, Poisona, Protect, Mini, Silence. Libra is a Scholar thing (Chain Stratagem), Sleep is a role action. Only thing Red Mage is missing out of its usual White Magic list, in a way that's compatible with WHM/BLM's spell lists and with XIV's own format, is Esuna.

              Anonymous

That's my point. It's basically black mage with different animations. Just remove raise from both SMN and RDM so that they can be balanced appropriately with BLM.
I'm so fricking sick of telling the BLM in my raid group that he can't prog on his main job because raise is so mandatory.

I didn't agree with you at all, at any given time Cure/Cura, Fire/Blizzard/Thunder, and Esuna are going to be the most useful spells for Red Mage in a Job System game. Red Mage's appearance in XIV is thus accurate.

Bard is suppose to be a healing class, in old final fantasy games it job was to give passive Buffs and heals. The only reason it's a dps is because FF has never really made a distinct archer class like the way Lancer has Dragoon, and pugilist has monk, etc etc. Syhvw

You're moronic, the appeal of RDM in 14, is not only one less dps the healer has to worry about, but also having an off healer who can heal when and if the healer is busy or fricking dead. RDM is mainly a dps, it only needs offense white magic, but having raise and cure makes RDM the "added insurance" job. It's purpose is to keep shit from hitting the fan.

I never understood the elitism surrounding high parses anyway. First of all, only a small percentage of players are even clearing rhe harder fights to begin with so you're already comparing rhe top 20ish percent of players to each other as is, and then crut variance is so wild on a lot of jobs getting what people consider a "good" parse is down to dice rolls anyway in a lot of cases. Personally as long as you're able to clear the content without being xomplete dead weight (as in causing multiple wipes, no clearing 15-20 seconds slower is not being dead weight) I don't really give a frick.

Like the most difficult thing about DRG's rotation is fitting all the buffs within the GCD. Which I'm sure is the main part of DRG's rework. so anyone is excited for beastmaster?

      Anonymous

I'll need to actually see what it does before I get excited. In fact I need to also see what beasts it can "master", because I'll be legitimately upset if the only things you will be able to rein in are basic field mobs, especially if it's only certain really boring choices. If I see a Beastmaster walking around with a Hatomoto or an Omicron on a leash, I'll not only resub for a full year, but I'll make sure to fill out my Pokedex as a priority before anything else.

after what they did with BLU?

contrary to popular belief, there is not a very large cadre of people that believe BLU was done dirty

          Anonymous

patch 6.45 was probably the smallest BLU update and only included one interesting spell, there's still no mount from completing SB or ShB savage raids, still no access to ultimates, just to name a few issues.

            Anonymous

still surprised they didn't let blu get Limit Break from Seat of Sacrifice, would've been the perfect time and then there would've been zero problems with ult blu

              Anonymous

Issue being they can't retool BLU's DPS to fulfill anything but DPS because it is earmarked as a caster DPS job

Aetheric Mimicry doesn't change your actual typing, it gives you a stance. You're still a Caster DPS.

Yeah, and they could have made the Limit Break spell that BLUs learned have a different effect based on your mimicry.

                >the Limit Break spell that BLUs learned have a different effect based on your mimicry.
That implies tying the use of a spell to the party's LB gauge and not actually using the LB gauge directly through the skill that already interfaces with it. That approach sounds pretty inane.

              Anonymous

Problem is you can't complete SoS without using a LB, so you have an impossible situation if LB comes from SoS.
I know you can rez cheese it, but SE would never make that kind of trick an actual requirement.

            Anonymous

            >still no access to ultimates
They'll never allow it because most ultimates have LB checks, and would be impossible.

Yeah. Shame there was no enemy in Shadowbringers that BLUs could have learned Limit Break from.
