Probably the most aggressive and brutal horror game I've ever played. It really makes you feel like the game wants you dead. I say power through it, OP. It might click with you. It took a bit for me.

chapter 4 if you dont like by that part, you just dont like it

I'm at the part where you fight the guy with a safe for a head, how far in am I and does it change at all from here? I do like RE4 but RE4 in Silent Hill corridors/darkness isn't my thing so far.

basically all of chapter 3 but I will admit the main one in my head was actually the cabin fight from the second game

Theres no one part that sticks out, just a series of small segments throughout the game like when Joseph is trying to get the door open, but these segments can be made easy with stuff like shock arrow or the flash bang one where you can knife 5 guys in a row, I blew up like 10 of them at once with a grenade in that segment it was glorious, the room was covered in body parts and gore

Playing RE44 on Hardcore is giving me TEW vibes and I love it, just did the Bridge section after you get the rifle it was glorious, had to stay on the move or Id get fricked up, went in the house and had to kick the door down right as a dynamite went off outside it and Leon exploded in a cloud of blood mist

It's the complete opposite of a movie game you drooling moron. Probably the reason both you and OP couldn't get into it.

The game is a blast on Akumu, basically RE4 but improved in every way.

              I absolutely love RE4 and I absolutely love EW1/2.
whether one or the other is better comes down to subjective taste.
I still prefer my description of EW the most objectively accurate

it gets pretty good within the first 3 hours, if you're not liking it, it's not for you.

If that silent hill was one of the western ones, sure accurate description.

All that proves is you never beat TEW. Now frick off shitter. And if you claim to be a fan of RE4 but played anything but the GCN original, you can also frick off.

                I'm

I know I powered through until a very late game boss that was just a chore to fight. I managed to take him down but by then I couldn't stand to play this shit anymore.

With better level design and bosses (the plot/setting is also quite lame) I really do think it could have been a strong 7 even 8/10 but its just too bad.

Of course I didn't beat something that wasn't good after playing 90% of the game. That's moronic.
                >RE4 but played anything but the GCN original
Yes and I beat it many times on pro and seethed when it got ported to PS2 with extra content. This experience is why I knew EW1 was garbage.

Well Idk what you didn't like, because it's a major refinement on the gameplay, aesthetic, and challenge of RE4. The only complaint I could maybe see is that each chapter feels very distinct in terms of gameplay style, but that's something I actually like, pretty rare in today's games where the whole thing is homogenized slop. It's really a game that excels on the hardest difficulties (also rare today)

oh yeah also the giant open ended chapter (I think it's 3?) kinda baits you into thinking it's very much a stealth game, when that's really the only chapter that's like that and stealth is hardly used past that point lmao. But honestly I love the different gameplay styles of the chapters; chapter 3 is great, but I would not want the whole game like that. Each chapter has its own distinctive flair, its own learning curve, and gameplay goals.

                I think that's actually chapter 2.
chapter 3 is the more action oriented square shaped village map with a shit ton of enemies and the chainsaw guy comes after you AGAIN. I could be wrong though

I definitely disagree on the aesthetic. There nothing memorable about any of the enemies or evironments and the "crazy dream world" setting sucks ass.
The gameplay also never felt right. Having to play around consumables and lame ass upgrades like "you can sprint more" was such a step back from upgrades in re4 purely being a matter of what cool gun you want to throw money at. The bosses also sucked and the game had an unfortunate amount of western jank.

Any one or two of these things I can forgive but all together just made it "shitty re4" for me.

                >nothing memorable about any of the enemies

All of the upgrades in TEW are purely optional. The game is balanced around none even on Akumu, but they do make an impact and are satisfying and fun to experiment with. If you're on lower than Akumu crying about fricking upgrades, you just need to stfu and get good, that simple.

The dream setting really just lets them crank it up to 11 with crazy fricked up environments and really just go wild with setpieces (actual interesting gameplay setpieces, not walkie talkie cinematic setpieces) and different enemy designs and aesthetics. It just feels like one giant fricking fever dream, and it saves you the bullshit of having to have some contrived story reason for why you are doing these things, because no one gives a shit about the plot in a game like this.

Wow I can hold +1 pointy sticks. Fun.

I won't argue about the aesthetic though since its just a matter of taste in an action game. Have just always thought "bro we're in the mind of the MENTALLY ILL" is so cringe lol.

Quite literally, he possessed the kid he was after and walked away scott free. No repercussions for his crimes and was never mentioned nor pursued after the first game. Granted the fact he's still out there and that teaser at the end of the second is a setup for a potential third game if they ever do it.

what I enjoy about TEW is its high concentration of 'scary' setpieces. re4 was like 85% styling on ganados, and 15% intimidating encounters like garrador/dr.salvador/U3. TEW is more like 60-40. It's a really stupid, trash game in a lot of ways but I won't ever get tired of the buildup to an intimidating monster.

First game is just okay. Wants to be RE4 but doesn't even come close in any category. The story isn't that fleshed out and the "twist" isn't done that well.

The sequel is actually vastly improved and feels like it isn't leaning heavily on other past games of the same genre; it comes into its own as an action-horror title. Not perfect but I definitely enjoyed it enough that I would want to do another playthrough in the future.
