I'm playing against mohg now on a low level character that gets 80% of the lifebar deleted by most attacks and it is making me really wonder about the encounter design of this game. I really don't get where the game wants you to go as a player. The attack patterns randomly punish. Is it supposed to be just instinctual gameplay with a large pool of health so you can survive getting fucked over
by a bullshit attack?

Mogh has one of the most comprehensive movesets on the game, with just a few extensions and delays to catch up instinct players. Just keep close to him t avoid the bloodpools and you can eventually beat the fight.

Thats not how these games work. You can just dodge with skill acquired earlier in the game or in the previous games, and first try any boss.

I know you can get to him early but he's supposed to be fought around when you fight Malenia or at Farum Azula. You might have been mislead by this game feeling and looking like dark souls where it wasn't that difficult to push above your weight, but this is by far the most punishing game for anyone trying to do SL1 run since ds2 dlcs, the scaling is absolutely brutal, towards later areas you are basically REQUIRED to have 40+ vig.

If you're doing a challenge run, just keep trying. You'll do it eventually, I've done it at SL1. Yeah it's not fun.
If you just want his gear early, use Tyche and bleed, respecc to a one shot glass canon comet azur build or something like that.
If you're just struggling normally, come back when you are level 130. Also don't forget to level vig. It's not an option anymore, it's a tax. Softcap is 60 but often 50 is enough.

Believe it or not Fromsoftware design philosophy is that the player keeps making progress in every way possible
They don’t intend for you to never level up, or to stop at some self imposed “meta level” (looking at you pvpfags)
You’re supposed to be just as strong if not stronger than this hiv positive blood slinging mutant which does indeed include having a large health pool to tank his bullshit
Fromdrones are just addled and don’t understand why systems like soul memory were included to prevent retarded ideas like low level play throughs and meta kneecapping but here we are

I remember i fought him right after doing Vaare quest (offline) with Eleonora's blade. I really liked him, one of the best bosses in ER, no bullshit one-shots, stable camera, big arena, but at the same time he's strong and hard. Him and Plasidusax are the best bosses in ER in my opinion.

I'd say Mohg is a pretty fair boss. You can dodge and strafe most of his attacks, only thing you have to watch out for is the blood.
Running into him in the sewers was probably my favorite experience in Elden Ring. A completely optional huge area that leads to a secret area that has a whole-ass boss with an incredible design and theme. It's slightly less special now knowing that he's just a copy of the first phase of the actual Mohg fight, but it was very cool at the time.

Same here I even used the damned scarab for the latter 1/3rd of the game. Bosses only give maybe a level or two once you hit 130+ and there just aren't that many once you get passed the capital. You had to have grinded or something.

Malenia gives around 600k runes, and to level up from 200 to 201 you need 300k runes.

    -Easy chugs
    -Op spells

Properly learning the fight is entirely a matter of pointless and timewasting trial & error, and unless you're a neet autist you can't afford that

I actually agree with you OP. Elden Ring has the worst damage values of any souls game by far. Every boss halfway through the game just flat out does too much damage, it’s not an interesting or engaging challenge to raise your VIT. And honestly it would be fine if they also weren’t by far the hardest bosses in fromsoft games, their move sets are so bat shit insane at times it makes you wonder how exactly Fromsoft intended the average player to beat the game if not for the copious amount of “ez mode” shit that’s in the games.

It falls somewhere in between pretty easy and a brutal unfun challenge and that sweet spot I think the other games found is so rare in Elden Ring. It’s still one of my favorite games ever made but balance is probably my biggest issue.

A couple days ago I rewatched my Mohg kill and was reminded how he's definitely the most fun I've had with a Souls boss. I also enjoyed how he made me change my setup a bit (had to switch from my darkflame weapon to holy, had to cast fire resistance miracle) since it highlights the RPG part of the action RPG.

Oh, i remember i've killed sewers Mogh with blackflame orb, and only after i looked up his 80% fire resistance. % DoT is supergood in ER.
