Most seem to like 1 more and 2 is a Quake game only in name.
It's a completely different game and they slapped the Quake name on it last minute.
It's good tho.
>is Quake 2 also good
It's got some new features that didn't improve the game all that much and honestly belonged in a much slower game. And the enemy design is much worse. Also its the blandest of 90s FPS scifi rather than whatever the fuck was going on in Q1. Ultimately you're trading brown castle for orange fortress.
Reminds me of Doom 3 in that it took features from much slower story-focused FPSes and crammed them into what should have been a pure action FPS and kinda ended up being less good than it should have been and without any of the charm of the previous game.
No, it doesn't. And variety is not what's important. Function is. The enemies in Quake 1 all serve unique purposes and the strongest of them are major threats that need to be addressed immediately. Q2 has nothing like that. All enemies are just bland targets you shoot at. None of them dictate player behavior the way a shambler or vore does.
>when the real music kicks in for the expansions
the what now?
thought the expansion music was pretty trash
the atmosphere reznor's tracks create in the main game is just amazing
just wish he did more track but I realize it's because of CDs having limited space
Quake 2 is a lot of fun. The weapons you start out with are kind of crappy but once you start expanding your arsenal the game really picks up. A lot of people didn't like the level design because it was too nonlinear and confusing, but the remake adds a compass item for when you get lost.
Quake 2 is very good, but a LOT different from Quake. The original is slower and a bit too easy with non linear levels and backtracking, the remaster adds new enemy behaviors that makes it more of a challenge.
Quake 2 is great, the single player is good and the multiplayer.
But Quake 3 has the best multiplayer and almost no real single player.
Quake 4 then has a decent single player campaign that kinda continues on from Quake 2, and it has decent multiplayer.
A series that is am must play for any lover of fps genre.
Return to castle Woflenstain is the single player Quake 3 in a way.
Call of duty 1 and 2 as well.
You dont gain anything from playing Quakelive and Quakewatch.
Well in Quakewatch you can bump into Rapha or cypher and get destroyed by the best players that ever played the Quake, and arguably the highest skilled pro players in history of video games.
I mean you can bump into them if your rating is high.
Quake 2 is carried by the soundtrack, I'm not kidding. The multiplayer back in the day was undefeatable but not it's only the soundtrack. Bring back my jailbreak and action quake servers before you say otherwise bitches you know I'm right.
The Quake series is just what id Software called all their FPSes in the late 90s. The games are otherwise unrelated to each other, so they play and look very different.
That and the average JRPG take on scifi fantasy was more intertwined sci-fi with a fantasy twist. The other games, it's more like two different buildings on the same street. More contrast less intermingling.
Quake 2 is great but doesn't have that gothic atmosphere
Go for the new expansion, it's worth

Quake 2 doesn't have Trent Reznor iirc, so I will never play it.
Quake 2 is great, but goes much harder on the sci-fi aspect. if you enjoyed Quake, you'll dig quake 2, plus the multiplayer is kino as fuck.

lol no way. Quake 2 has much better enemy variety.

Quake 2 has much worse level design. Feels like a completely different game.
Both remasters are pretty good. Honestly Quake 1 starts to get good when the real music kicks in for the expansions.

Install Arcane Dimensions. It even works with remaster.
remaster is a butchered shitheap of a port. use ironwail.
Ironwail is shit cause I don't know about it.

The compass saves Quake 2. Backtracking is fine, but not with that style of level design.

Quake 2 is good, but it's ground zero for (brown and gray military shooter).

>but now it's only the soundtrack
unfortunate mistake but still the truth
I liked quake 2 more just for the funner weapons, soundtrack and because i like the strogg enemies

Quake 2 remaster is good.
Get this mod https://www.nexusmods.com/quake2/mods/13
Where's the mod to get air control and nonshit movement back?
>dark medieval fantasy lovecraft also there's sci-fi but only in the first level of every episode
I fucking love how insane quake 1's aesthetic is, I want more games that go for something completely nonsensical.
It's wonderful. Like the vidya version of a concept album.
Sci fi and fantasy mixing was pretty common in older rpgs like Ultima, Might and Magic, and even Wizardry.
also Phantasy Star
That and the average JRPG take on scifi fantasy was more intertwined sci-fi with a fantasy twist. The other games, it's more like two different buildings on the same street. More contrast less intermingling.
Nice Norn farm.
Q2 is tonally different and the weapons lack impact compared to the first and 3, I enjoyed it though.
no, 1>2. Theres better boomer shooters than q2.
bruh lissen lil bro be like yo this here a hero shooter ya heard like it aint bussin bro never played team fortress xD skull emoji fire fire fire fire
