[IMPORTANT] Elden Ring Emergency Meeting

Hi Ganker
The DLC is coming soon, and I very much look forward to the discussions that follow. However we need to establish some ground rules first.
We all know that getting to the ending cutscene doesn't automatically count as beating the game.
There are those of us who used magic, bleed, frost, ashes, and summons. These people have played a completely different game, and their opinions and experiences have no bearing on what the game actually is, and should be swiftly ignored and thrown in the trash.
So, in order for us to all have the true experience, and be on level-ground when talking about the fights. What are the most important things to avoid?
Let's discuss, and come to a consensus on what's allowed, and what's not, during our time with the DLC.

Frick off, OP made a good thread with valid questions.

      >things to avoid
I am of the opinion that everything is valid except summons or ashes. All bosses must be faught alone. After that there are simply additional levels of respect owed to the players who engage with less and less of the games mechanics, culminating finally in the level 1 wretch who beats the game with an unleveled club.

Fair point. But I'd argue that things like having over 50 vigor or more is a bit cheesy. So I'm keeping mine at 40.
Also, thoughts on Maliketh's black blade, or the incantations that have the same effect? It's kind of busted.

No one can argue that magic is a method for cowards and weaklings. I contend however that it looks cool, and I feel like a fricking badass when I make a ghostlfame explosion or throw some lightening. This greatly enhances my enjoyment, and I do not just hang back and lob projectiles anyway.

I too have a vigor at 40. But I also am a dex enjoyer and find strength chuds who just max out poise are unrefined neanderthalls. Heavy armor and maxing poise deserves more shit talking. Learn to roll with the timing like a propper souls platyer.

I tried to do a magic build, and out of my 6 playthroughs, that was the only one I dropped. It was extremely boring, despite looking cool. Maybe the DLC spells could make it more fun.
Also, heavy armor and poise aside, is using shields a cop-out? I feel like with this game, some situations call for rolling, some for jumping, and others are best countered with a block. So personally, I'm keeping my small shield just in case.

You can block well with just your weapon if its a greatsword or heavier, with exceptions against twinblades and scythes and whatnot.

                >yet they were critical of the difficulty being too extreme despite this, would their opinion be counted?
No, because part of this genre of gaming is to git gud, all of us sucked at some point, being impatient and resorting to summoning is not a valid excuse.
I will make an exception for disabled people. Like if you were born with no fingers. Or if you're an amputee. But most people aren't.
                >and that the level meta does not account for this because it was culturally decided in large part by youtubers
This is mostly for PvP. PvE has no meta. Especially with Elden Ring, since if you're the kind of player that explores every nook and cranny, you'll be a much higher level than straight shooters. You should be fine anyway. I think the DLC has power scaling for your level.

Yeah my bad. But to actually respond to you. shields are better in this case because they can both block and parry. 2-hand blocking is situational.

                Anonymous

Shields are better for the ashes they can use, yeah, but generally guard counters are better in 2h form which gives a reason for them to exist for the chunky weapons.

                sorry, meant for

Not him but if a player did use methods you deem disqualifying, yet they were critical of the difficulty being too extreme despite this, would their opinion be counted? I did not resort to summons or ashes but I feel the game becomes a complete slog in the last third and that more health or damage is needed to prevent trial and error gameplay, and that the level meta does not account for this because it was culturally decided in large part by youtubers. Personally I think I'm just gonna go ahead and level up in the dlc because I already crossed the line while SL was still up in the air.

Well I'm not just talking about resorting to summoning. Some take issue with vigor or certain playstyles.

I dislike summoning because the ai is clearly not designed for it, and I dislike much of Elden Ring because despite this ai shortcoming, the stats of enemies are over tuned because summoning is expected. The game is fighting against itself.

Sure, PvE has no meta, but then you have to choose between PvP or PvE characters rather than being able to engage in both. Ideally the PvP meta would reflect an expected level reached from playing the game naturally, but this is rarely the case in ER.

We all need to use weapons from the DLC. So if you mean this is the only weapon we can use upon entry, then I see no issue.

Most important thing to avoid is playing online. Messages, while fun, can ruin the experience by telling you about traps

Absolutely. My first playthrough was offline, and I have zero regrets. This also makes it easy to find developer messages or bloodstains.

I don't care what you do in your game. But when you're talking to me about which bosses were easy, and how many attempts a boss took you. Your opinion is tainted by enabling easy mode. Obviously the person who summons a copy of themselves, and spams bleed/frost beat the boss in less than 10 tries. If they didn't, they should kill themselves.

Yeah. The beam now costs a lot more stamina to use, and the mana tear has a really short duration.
