he's a boomer it's an accurate depiction
Old man attempting to use modern slang is the oldest joke in the book. I'm not sure what you find particularly offensive about it.
Zoomies always get offended at old farts trying to talk slang. Why do you think it's something else?
What does cheugy mean?
in italian is funnier he asks what does "chill" means and for a long period it was a meme
IT MEANS YOU'RE CRINGE BRO
Old-fashioned, outdated
t. 30 year old boomer who only knows this word because my zoomer coworker told me about it
Zoomers aren't the ones getting offended, it's aging millennials who are now coming to terms with the fact that they are the out of touch old guys
Clive confirmed cringe millennial.
Nah, it's zoomers pretending they're "old".
It could be much worse, believe me. At least you can understand what he says
Most of these are words. Dragon Quest IV was a lot worse about phonetic accents.
>he really doesn't understand what the guy meant by this
>Amerimutt reading comprehension
You don't need to know french to understand that he is reminiscing about the good old days and someone that was most likely a romantic interest to him you fag.
>Him
I assumed the dude in the cape was the one talking you chud.
Unlike you I don't play fag games.
>Mme de Beauvoire
>Froggot knows nothing about his own language.
As expected.
How embarrassing, there's so much telling you that wasn't the case and you still thought it. You must be very special anon.
Not even the worst example in that game.
>giraffe instead of gaff
that's fucking hilarious and you're fucking stupid
It can always be worse.
Oi, I don’t know ‘bout ya, but it seems like yer exaggertain’ things t’me. Japanese accents of certain characters get lost in translation, the localizers ain’t got choice but c’mpensate make ‘em speak in an exaggerated dialect.
If I can't tell what the fuck the character is trying to say then it's a bad translation.
If I'm going to be confused either way I might as well get a dictionary and read the original.
So how would you localize different japanese dialects like tosa-ben, osaka-ben, kagoshima-ben and the like? Just straight english with no frills?
>If I can't tell what the fuck the character is trying to say
Certified Amerimutt moment
I bet if some European said they couldn’t understand the cousinfucker from Texas you’d call them retarded
Some fanfic writers go too far with Applejack where she becomes completely unintelligible.
If someone tried to write an American accent by doing shit like
>I wen' to th' store 'n I got some wadder
I would complain about that being annoying to read too, even if it's phonetically accurate
This. I know one translator who translates Kansai dialect as Ukrainian. I'm not even Slav, I have no idea that they're speaking, WTF.
What if there's a scene where one character speaks in a thick accent, and another says "I can't understand you, your accent is too thick"? Do you completely rewrite the scene to remove that line?
The Dragon Quest characters don't talk in thick accents in the original nip, it's something the localizer made up.
Chrono Trigger had a thing where Frog (a heroic swordsman questing to defeat the Dark Lord) speaks in a Shakespearean accent used by no other character in the Middle Ages. In flashbacks it's shown that he used to talk normally until his best friend (the kingdom's greatest knight) was killed by the Dark Lord in front of him while he was powerless to do anything.
Frog's accent was completely made up by the localisers, but fans generally like it because it plays into Frog trying incredibly hard to take up his friend's mantle as the perfect knight.
ENTER
But… that makes sense? Two expressions of surprise following one another and you son of a bitch.
Have you even played DR2? Sonia is a rich weeb from middle of nowhere Europe who just moved to Japan. She's intimately familiar with old and obscure Japanese culture but constantly misuses slang and is pretty oblivious to the guys making innuendos at her. That's the joke. That's why she's localized to speak English awkwardly and misuse slang.
Dragon Quest's localizations are kino
They're fucking cancer and the only people that like them are retarded zoomers that had never heard of the series before they started getting localized like this.
The official translation of Adventure of Dai is all over the place. Sometimes they use the DQ games' localised names for things, and sometimes they use the original Japanese names. Usually the latter is for things that Dai invented and only appeared in the games later. Which sometimes leads to disjointed conversations when you have a line like
>This attack channels the power of a Gigadein spell into my sword, so I call it Giga Break
and Giga Break keeps its name but Gigadein is localised to "Kazap"
And there's still some oddness when Dai-original concepts that have JP-language names. Like with the augmented "Chouma Seibutsu" warriors ("supermagical/superdemonic organisms", fan-translated as "Hyper Demons") becoming "Superior Beings".
The Pokemon DP Adventure translation was like that too, with "Jun" instead of Barry and "Hansom" instead of Looker because the characters didn't have official English names yet at the time.
Written/voice-acted frog speak as handled by the west is a special kind of shit. Witcher 3's Not-France DLC made me want to kill myself.
>t. frog
ANY non-frog speaking frog pisses frogs off though, without even getting into vidya frogs.
gay trips
Better than the NoA chudhouse shit we gotten for decades
Don’t care, that just makes Hassel even cuter. Shame Game Freak is sorta learning how to write characters as their gameplay systems fall apart
>yfw
I'm sorry I'm a boomer. What the fuck is fleek selfie spot?
get outta here you old sack of shit
move over for the cool kids!
Show me that it wasn't some hip slang in Japanese instead of just complaining.
They've been doing this shit since the 3DS and the advent of global releases, and every time it's already dated by the time the game comes out
Waste of fucking trips. The characters say shit like this in the other languages too, including Japanese.
I love Mean Girls.
This is literally the modern equivalent of old people going
>"Let's break it down radically, my jive homies!"
Nothing changed, except you are old.
He told me that the 10 Wonders of Paldea were not that wonderful.
team snowbae is so fleek that i literally cant even
