Old man attempting to use modern slang is the oldest joke in the book. I'm not sure what you find particularly offensive about it.

Zoomers aren't the ones getting offended, it's aging millennials who are now coming to terms with the fact that they are the out of touch old guys

Oi, I don’t know ‘bout ya, but it seems like yer exaggertain’ things t’me. Japanese accents of certain characters get lost in translation, the localizers ain’t got choice but c’mpensate make ‘em speak in an exaggerated dialect.

If I can't tell what the frick the character is trying to say then it's a bad translation.
If I'm going to be confused either way I might as well get a dictionary and read the original.

What if there's a scene where one character speaks in a thick accent, and another says "I can't understand you, your accent is too thick"? Do you completely rewrite the scene to remove that line?

        Anonymous

The Dragon Quest characters don't talk in thick accents in the original nip, it's something the localizer made up.

Chrono Trigger had a thing where Frog (a heroic swordsman questing to defeat the Dark Lord) speaks in a Shakespearean accent used by no other character in the Middle Ages. In flashbacks it's shown that he used to talk normally until his best friend (the kingdom's greatest knight) was killed by the Dark Lord in front of him while he was powerless to do anything.

Frog's accent was completely made up by the localisers, but fans generally like it because it plays into Frog trying incredibly hard to take up his friend's mantle as the perfect knight.

Have you even played DR2? Sonia is a rich weeb from middle of nowhere Europe who just moved to Japan. She's intimately familiar with old and obscure Japanese culture but constantly misuses slang and is pretty oblivious to the guys making innuendos at her. That's the joke. That's why she's localized to speak English awkwardly and misuse slang.

They're fricking cancer and the only people that like them are moronic zoomers that had never heard of the series before they started getting localized like this.

The official translation of Adventure of Dai is all over the place. Sometimes they use the DQ games' localised names for things, and sometimes they use the original Japanese names. Usually the latter is for things that Dai invented and only appeared in the games later. Which sometimes leads to disjointed conversations when you have a line like
        >This attack channels the power of a Gigadein spell into my sword, so I call it Giga Break
and Giga Break keeps its name but Gigadein is localised to "Kazap"

And there's still some oddness when Dai-original concepts that have JP-language names. Like with the augmented "Chouma Seibutsu" warriors ("supermagical/superdemonic organisms", fan-translated as "Hyper Demons") becoming "Superior Beings".

The Pokemon DP Adventure translation was like that too, with "Jun" instead of Barry and "Hansom" instead of Looker because the characters didn't have official English names yet at the time.
