>introduction to faction is a guy unavoidably coming up to you on the street in broad daylight asking if you like to steal things

>introduction to faction is a guy unavoidably coming up to you on the street in broad daylight asking if you like to steal things
>even if you completely fail the first quest they still let you in
>no penalty for indiscriminately killing whatsoever
>most quests are basically Fighter's Guild mercenary work
>only time you are ever required to actually steal something to complete the questline is the very first quest
>entire guild is both Maven Black-Briar and Nocturnal's b***h and is forced to further their goals
>Nightingale oath means you'll be a ghost in the shitty vault forever (no Sovngarde for you buddy lmao)
>got the voice of Garrett for the antagonist but wasted it on moronic writing
Legitimately the worst faction questline Bethesda has ever created, what the frick were they thinking? Oblivion's Thieves Guild wasn't a masterpiece or anything but it already figured out 85% of the problems the Skyrim one has.

There should have been an option to join Mjoll and eradicate these c**ts.

Entering Riften was when I knew this game would be complete shit.
      >guard at the gate tries to shake you down
      >after entering, you're ten feet from Mjoll who'll complain about how the thieves' guild are ruining Riften, also implicating Maven Black-Briar
      >ten feet further is Maul, shaking you down again, this time explicitly for the thieves' guild
      >another ten feet and you run into Brynjolf, openly trying to recruit you
A far cry from having to chase rumors and befriend hobos, just to be granted a provisional audience with a low-ranking fence to prove your thieving skills and be promoted to doing basic field work until you prove profitable and make your way up to the actual story of the guild.

I expected some fricking thievery, not crawling through the same generic draugr and dwemer dungeons I've been crawling through for literally every other questline in the entire game, because Skyrim has exactly one thing for the player to do.

    >”You don’t understand! You must sell your soul to this demon or else we stand no chance against Mercer!”
    >”I understand that you are a formidable fighter, but Mercer is a nightingale. He is something you’ve never had to deal with before”
    >”What’s that? You killed Alduin? I don’t even know who that is but clearly a jobber compared to Mercer”
    >”We’re running out of time! So I’m just gonna softlock this quest until you do what I say.”
My headcanon is that Akatosh owns the dragonborn’s soul by default and it doesn’t matter what kind of pacts you make, he will still send you to Sovngarde when you die

honestly the tg and companions stories only make sense if they're the first two factions you pick.

the game would be a lot more interesting if you were locked into 1-2 factions per playthrough and their quests actively intersected against each other. the big problem with Bethesda games is everything happens in a vacuum.

honestly long dedicated guild questlines are probably going away in the next game for that reason.
Probably something like a reputation system with loads of smaller groups will take its place to make it more sandboxy.

With the quest expansion it's decent but sarthaal needs to be reworked to be entirely puzzle focused until the end at least. Also orthaan's quest needs to be replaced with bartering with a deadra for his release because a generic fort dungeon doesn't fit like at all for a school quest.

The rest is fine as is for a conclusion at least.

              >tells you you will win

TES6 is actually all of the daedric princes fighting over this one badass super warrior/mages soul and the main quest is about either killing the daedra with the help of the divines to end the war or joining one of them to overpower the others and end the war

yeah, Nocturnal will have to deal with literally every other daedric prince I've dealt with first

I'm replaying skyrim currently, yeah thieves guild is awful.
Overall most quest design in the game is terribe
    >arrive in new town
    >recieve a quest that sends you all across the map before you even get to know the locals
Many such cases, my questlog is clogged and I don't even rememeber accepting some of them or who the characters mentioned are.

Doesn’t help that nobody wants to actually teach you magic unless you are level 90 in the respective skill

        Anonymous

We're not comparing this to other TES. Right? Since the others don't do much "teaching" either

          Anonymous

They don't teach you things outright but you are forced to actually reach different milestones in the skills related to the factions like mages guild in Morrowind which means you are likely going to use their services to learn and craft spells at the very least.

Doesn't being part of the mages guild give you access to their trainers and spell vendors.

      >Hold, "mage", and listen well... Know that you have set in motion a chain of quests that can be paused. Judgment has not been passed, as you had no way of knowing. Judgment will not be passed on your actions to come, and how you deal with the dangers ahead of you for it is a linear questline with one outcome. This warning is passed to you because Todd believes in you. You, "mage", and you alone, have the potential to prevent quest incompletion. Take great care, and know that Todd is always watching.

In hindsight, that just makes sneaking through Snow Veil Sanctum during Speaking With Silence even worse, with Mercer tripping all the traps and picking fights with the local draugr.
I even left him behind getting shouted around the room once.

        >the one with the painted trolls
enter cell, talk to guy, kill or avoid 5 trolls, loot body, talk to guy, exit cell, quest complete. yeah interesting premise but it's over way too fast.
        >whodunnit
I'll give you that, this quest and its many permutations are actually pretty great. Emil did have his moments.
        >the one with the stolen painting
meh, it was way too easy to figure out who the culprit was, only good thing about this quest is it lets you burglarize the castle with impunity as long as you're on it.

Dark Brotherhood has the best quests in Oblivion and Skyrim. Morag Tong was rather bland in comparison, you just walked up to the mark and insulted them till they attacked you.
