8gb is the bare minimum but it's slowly being upped due to poor optimization by game devs. Don't buy anything lower than 8gb but if you can, get something with 12 or 16gb instead
Not ideal but fine for 1080p. You're much better off getting a 12gb one if you're planning long term. But if you're doing a budget 3rd world build and get a screaming deal on an 8gb one then go for it.
There are already games that exceed 8GB at 1440p. I believe in the next few years we'll see some games go over the 8GB limit even at 1080p. So it depends on how long you plan to use the same GPU at that same resolution and what kind of games you'd like to play.
not sure if joking but anyway while ps4 didnt have a very strong gpu, it did benefit from havibg a shared memory of 8gb which enabled it to use high resolution textures that most entry gpus couldn't match back then. so it had a nice amount of vram to use but in raw performance it was nowhere close to a 970. a GTX 760 with 4gb would be pretty close to ps4 performance.

ps5 usually matches the 8gb vram comparable options on pc
i dont even know why people would put textures that high on 1080p. Why bother if your low resolution output makes the high res textures look low res anyway?
It's not just ppi, bigger screensizes help with showing more detail too along with the ppi increase. Phones have like 300 ppi but you cant see any close up detail because the screen is like 6 inches.
Size has nothing to do with it lol. Because the closer you are bigger it seems. It's relative. What matters is can you see individual pixels or not. And if your monitor is "running out of pixels" which 1440p has 15% more relative to the size.
It only matters if you play latest AAA games. Those games can only be ran fluently on 4090 cards or you have to wait a year before they're optimized for anything else.
You can’t even max out 1080p games today, let alone tomorrow. Also you can get GPUs with higher amounts of VRAM for the same price, namely the old RX 6000 cards. Of course, if you have a brand bias, the 4060 can still upscale 720p in the future.
I bought a 3060ti last year for my first non-toaster pc, it seemed like a sweet spot in terms of performance because it out performed basically every other 8gb card, was essentially the exact same as a 3070, and to get more memory youd have to more than double the price of the card or go all the way back to something like a 1080ti that performs worse and is only better in that one narrow way, and thats exactly what its been so far, I play on 1080p and just max everything and theres been 0 issues, vr games included. The only situation I've found where my 8gb didn't seem like it quite was enough is vr mods of older games and skyrim modding.
>>rtx 3060
I've found this at good price on Amazon but to ship it in my country I have to pay some 70 euros so I won't buy it but I liked it because it's a 12gb
Yet I've seen the 6600 and 6650 being described as better running games even if without ray tracing, and this with 8gb.
Can someone explain?
My RTX 2070 is an old GPU but honestly the biggest wall I run into is VRAM. I can turn textures down, sure, but the VRAM limit is what needs stuff tweaked first before things for actual GPU usage.
With that in mind, it's fucking insane to me that 8 GB possibly still exists. 12 GB should be what the low end XX50 series has and the XX60 should be 16 GB or more.
Not OP but I'm in the same boat, I'm looking to upgrade from a 1660 Super but don't want to spend too much. I was looking at the Asus Dual 4060 8gb, it's $300. I only play in 1080p but my current rig can't even run Ratchet & Clank. Should I just get a PS5? I don't want to spend $900 on just a gpu.
i find it funny how Ganker simultaneously says they don't play newer games because it's all goyslop, but at the same time they caution against getting 8gb cards because it isn't future proof
To play 1080p is ok,
8gb is the bare minimum but it's slowly being upped due to poor optimization by game devs. Don't buy anything lower than 8gb but if you can, get something with 12 or 16gb instead
it's okay for 1080p
See if you can find a cheap 6700XT/6750XT
You can get an A770 for $290 or a 6700XT for about that same price

TLOU
Not because it was demanding, it was poorly optimized.
There was one is all I was saying. After all the PS4 was basically a 970
yeah no. more like a 760 4gb.
What about ps5 does it reach 16gb?

970 is well over double the speed of the PS4.
games that ran at 25-30fps on PS4 ran at 60fps with higher settings on the 970.
video games anon
remake 4 eats 11 gigs in 1080p on max with 6gb textures, no rt
i dont even know why people would put textures that high on 1080p. Why bother if your low resolution output makes the high res textures look low res anyway?
You can still notice it if you put your characters face against the wall and zoom in but yeah overall its kind of pointless at 1080p
You can still tell. The ppi increase from 24 1080p to 27 1440p is only just 15%.

sometimes textures below high just mean potato shit. take nogwarts and tlou as an example
no it doesn't
t. played it at 1800p/90fps on a 3080 10gb, only when played at 2160p + RT the vram would fill up
hogwarts already does it.
terrible
why not just get the 3060 12 gb? basically same performance more vram

Do you think OP is ever going to tell us what he intends to play using an 8gb-vram GPU, at what resolution and on which settings?
most anons seeking help in /pcbg/ don't even do that. they just go
>should i buy a 4060 or a 6700?
>also what cpu?
There is no objective answer.
Do you want to play the latest biggest games and have them look their best? No it isn't enough.
Do you just want to play video games and get high fps in more competitive titles? It's very much enough.
get a cheap 6650xt now and upgrade to 5070 in 2025
12GB is minimum for 1080p.
>8gb
Yeah if you are okay with 720p occasionally
>mfw 8gb card on 1440p
Fortunately for me, I'm not into the latest AAA shitshow games, so no issues
I'd wait. even FC6 high res textures require a 12gb gpu just to play, and that's now almost 2 years old
Why'd you even fucking play, much less pirate or God forbid [P] [A] [Y] for trannycry6?

at 1440p 60fps I have zero problems with my 3060ti. Whatever you do don't listen to any mouthbreather that talks about ultra graphics
I have one and it works great
What's better?
>6650 hell hound or fighter
>rtx 3060
>>rtx 3060

second hand 2080ti

If you are sticking with 1080p then yeah it’s fine
It's okay for low settings 720p
have a nice day
If anon said dlss quality you'd be praising it.

Those two fan 4060 are fucking nasty. My flatmate got one and had to return it. It was so fucking NOISY, like holy shit.

Need at least 12Gb for modern gayms. Go for 4070 and 2K
That's what I'm going for (I already bought everything) but now I keep seeing people say 4070 is bad for 1440p and I kinda wanna off myself.
It's alright but its basically a 3080 with 2gb more vram for the same price 3 years later, and worse at 4k for some reason.
should I get a 4070 ti or a 4080? is the extra several hundred worth it for the 16 GB?
