It depends on the setting
Nah, that's the Paladin.
exactly.
A most acceptable human male fighter is ugly, the Charisma being a dump stat.
>A most acceptable human male fighter is ugly,
Projection
man that movie is so close to being exceptional but it just kinda doesn't get all the way there
- This movie IS exceoptional
yeah. I still like it and rewatch it every once in a great while. It's got some outstanding scenes, and it's just gorgeous to look at. But the whole, I'm with you, it doesn't quite make it. the achilles / hector segments are amazing, but they sacrifice a lot to keep it front and center. in particular Paris and Agamemnon end up being really one-dimensional because most of their story beats get cut, and Odysseus gets the short end too.
We had a long discussion on one of the threads here a while back about how you'd basically want to cherry-pick all the best stuff from that movie and splice it with the best ideas from the (also flawed) shitflix show from a couple years back. since they managed to make it so the flaws of one line up almost perfectly with the virtues of the other.
so you're saying you put a lot of points into charisma at the cost of your fighting ability?
Cha=/=Physical Attractiveness
See pic related for example
Also here's a song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=16y1AkoZkmQ
Why wouldn't the literal descendant of a God be charismatic? This is why D&D sucks at archetype representation.
the difference is the kids of a gods have way more stat points than regular human characters. achilles had already maxed all his physical attributes so he just started throwing points in to charisma for the hell of it.
Okay but have you considered most mythological characters are generally implied to have some kind of divine origin (whether through blood or a destiny foretold by God) and that D&D is the one being subversive by making you play generic bumfrick swordgay who's whole personality literally involves swinging a sword and nothing else.
I mean, sure? but if you play a mythic setting like that and everybody is demigods, the usual approach is to assume the PCs are awesome at everything by default (by mortal standards), including CHA, and then build on top of that to set them apart from eachother. Often not just with stats but with feats or abilities that allow them to do truly ridiculous things within certain constraints that feature their "thing".
You'd only really make a demigod worse than a mortal at something if being bad at that was part of his character. Like a hephaestus type might take a blow to CHA as an explicit weakness, in exchange for a buff somewhere else.
No, I'm saying I roll all 16+s for my stats, so my Fighter doesn't have to make those sort of compromises.
Guy was a demi-god, I think he doesn't have normal stat distribution.
I always imagined HMF types as kind of Hoghschool Jock-type people
yfw D&Dcels really defend a game where the archetype of the handsome stalwart champion is suppose to be an ugly incel so he doesn't end up undermining essential combat stats just so the less MAD Wizard can cuck him.
Aren't paladins all virgins though?
If the tenants of their religious beliefs and/or order demand it.
It amuses me to imagine a Paladin of some noted bawd deity who is turbo chaste and dresses very conservatively, and their power is proportional to their virginity.
That is how they get their bawd goddess' attention. She is a cherryboy hunter and likes them very ripe and hard to get.
Only if their code demands it
Mine didn't so he gave a few women the divine dicking, which at one point led to a half hour debate on whether having sex with an evil aligned person makes a paladin fall
>whether having sex with an evil aligned person makes a paladin fall
I guess it's just like eating together with evil aligned person if you count sex as neutral act. But it might more evil action depending on circumstances. How did this happen?
It’s not just about whether the act is good or evil, though. Paladins also traditionally aren’t allowed to knowingly associate with evil at all.
Well, what we agreed on was that it's perfectly ok if the paladin didn't know she was evil at the time, which he didn't because she just seemed like a normal bard and I'm not in the habit of spamming detect evil when attractive women come on to me
>half hour debate on whether having sex with an evil aligned person makes a paladin fall
I'd argue it depends on the circumstances. How tragic is that evil aligned person's backstory and how much of it does the paladin know about? I think a paladin should be able to "associate" with evil if he/she thinks the character in question has legitimate grievances and with the right guidance could stop being evil. So long as you don't just encourage their bad behaviour or go so deep in denial about the fact they might be iredeemable, you should be allowed to cooperate. And at that point, I feel like the possibility of love (or at least awkward one night stands) are pretty much just a matter of whether the chemistry is right. Could even lead to some tragikino if the paladin thinks he's leading her down the righteous path, but then either it turns out it was just manipulation and he got fooled into helping or the evil character then fails at the last moment and falls back into temptation.
Paladin with an Evil waifu is an absolute kino story. I'm playing it right now in a game with a wonderful DM. I don't know where it'll lead, but the journey is a blast.
Well, please tell us more about your character and his evil gf
Well, since you asked so nicely. I have posted about this before in another thread, but not the whole story, I think.
>My character: Human Noble Paladin of Devotion, from a powerful family but low enough in the line of succession that he's set to inherit nothing, was sent to a Knightly order to make something of himself and not potentially cause trouble for his eldest brother because he was a strong and charismatic lad who could conceivably gather support to contest the succession.
>The waifu: Half-elf Urchin Bard, her family died when she was little, she has no one else in the world and grew up in the streets, doing what she needed to survive. Stunningly beautiful, she fell in with a bad crowd who taught her how to be a bard so she could prove useful to them.
They met in a high-class tavern, fell in love, learned about each other and exchanged engagement gifts. My paladin's family would never accept someone like her as a bride and the mafia would never let such a useful pawn go so they decided to elope. She had some things to take care of first so they set up an appointment. When my paladin went there, he found her dead and covered in blood and he set off on an adventure, chasing leads to bring her killer to justice and find the money to resurrect her.
What he didn't know at the time is that the leader of the mafia was a vampire and instead of letting that pawn go, he personally turned her into one as well. She has since been corrupted by undeath and is now wholly Evil and kinda reveling in her newfound power even as she scoffs at being even less free than she was, but she still loves her fiance and is trying to help him from the shadows as much as she can. My Paladin aims to become strong enough to kill her master, who is a lieutenant of the big bad, free her, find a way to cure her vampirism and live happily ever after after beating the big bad.
Unlike the other anon who posted about a vampire waifu in this thread, I will not accept her turning into dust. Either my paladin will find a way to save her and have a bunch of quarter-elf children with her, or he will join her in undeath and be with her forever, or at least until a bunch of do-gooders come to kill the evil vampire couple. I have already prepared a backup character for that eventuality.
My DM really is wonderful. All I said when he was preparing the campaign was that I wanted for my paladin's backstory to be "human noble, fell in love with someone he shouldn't have, she died, he's now looking for her killer and for resurrection money." The rest was all him.
By all means I hope you find a happy ending, but IMO curable vampirism is a no-go. The only proper ending for a vampire love story is tragedy and death. That's what being a goth is all about after all...
I second the request to know more. At least say what she is
No. Paladins have to give of themselves in all aspects to push back the darkness.
>"Enough of this nonsense! I don't need anyone!" hissed the vampire through quivering lips. "I need nothing, nothing but blood!"
>"Scarlet... Not even the centuries could drown the soul I see within you..." the young paladin looked at her with his blue eyes, his blonde locks framing his beautiful face. "Give me your hand. I'll pull you out of the raging sea."
>"You will destroy me," she wept. "I know."
>"I will save you, if you wish to be saved."
>The vampire quietly reached her pale hand to him, and interlocked her fingers with his...
>"Oh, Benedict..."
Ah, I love this shit. Then she has a crisis when she can no longer bear the thirst and he tells her, "here, drink of my body" and offers his neck to her. And every seven days or so they do this again. But eventually she sees that she's slowly killing him, so there's a scene where he's lying in bed, near death, and sitting next to him on the bed she tells him how she'd saved her in the end. She watches the sunrise out of the open window, and you see her smiling at him while ash slowly flakes away from her face, and she kisses him on the lips and as she light fills the room she lies down next to him, and they both die together in a loving embrace
cringe
Based. I literally cannot stop liking evil women
So you just like all women, then?
we're talking about fantasy settings anon. it's a place where good women exist
My mistake, then. But suspension of disbelief can only go so far.
why is monster girl a thing? All women irl are monsters already.
the monster is on the outside
that's why coplaying anime girls are shit
Heh
I'd watch that movie.
>How to tell nogames
>For some reason think Paladins are Christian monks.
What's a paladin?
A MISERABLE PILE OF BLESSINGS
The order goes:
>#1: Male human fighter
>#2: Gruff dwarf sidekick
>#3: Cheerful elf (girl)friend
>#4: (Everything else)
I'd watch a show based on this
That's just Vermintide
Then go watch it.
RoLW is so fricking DnD that even the gold dragons have whiskers.
Awesome.
The entire story was based off a DnD campaign. And if you ever thinking of fapping to Deedlit, remember, she was played by a man...
Eww
>remember, she was played by a man...
Doesn't matter, I'm not fapping to the man.
I can see the logic in this. lot's of sexy fictional character were conceived by men
#5 charming half elf bard-rogue hybrid
I think rogues deserve more credit as a class. They can't deadlift a giant but it still takes a lot of muscle to backflip up a cliff
Can't beat the classics
This image oozes SOUL. But I always wanted to know, why did they decide to give Deedlit those ears? Originally I mean.
>Very first episode involves the fighter and the boss monster swinging at each other for 5 minutes straight unable to break each others' AC
Yeah it was accurate
yes, every great hero in history and fiction has been a Male Fighter
Baldwin IV
That's because humans lived in pre-industrial societies for the longest time, with not much to do
Are you saying their can’t be heroes in post-industrial societies?
How about the older, somewhat handsome, human male fighter?
Still probably very well accepted by fantasy society.
You've saved your image as "Man with a stick", yet you believe Shou is a Fighter. Confusing.
He fights with a stick.
Sadly people still need to eat, drink and optionally not die from cold or heat, also someone needs to make those swords, cuirasses and clothes for young handsome fighters. So no Bob, pick up your plough and carry on tilling, you're at peak social acceptance already.
Young, beautiful elven sorceress.
Some people don’t like elves though
Their loss
This is the most socially acceptable love interest for young, handsome human male fighters.
truu
No.
excess young, military-age fighting men are dangerous and destabilizing on most societies. The most acceptable thing would be a farmer.
Only if they are unemployed.
Young, handsome human male fighter, yes, but also of noble blood, like a prince. That's what a waifur deserves, no less.
And by noble blood I also imply pure of heart, not just a title. Fantasy nobility, not IRL nobility. I love faitytales so much. Tolkien was right about everything
No.
A young, SPANISH, human, male fighter is the most socially acceptable thing in the world.
Here is my schizo conspiracy as to why there is this general vibe tendency of having all this boilerplate fantasy shit going on and it's due to the waning influence of not only the US but also the west in general and as such they want more standard stories to come out during times of crisis. Like think about it, you don't want to think about the media you consume when you have shit to do and all that shit. It seems like an insult when you have like a job and shit and the tv show or the game you're playing wants to make a point about something. So you get angry and mad that they don't cater to this base impulse inside of you, the sweet relief of escaping, the closeness of being connected to the collective subconsciousness as liberalism robs people of their connection to the fruits of the labor.
That's not schizo, its just a fact.
Makes sense to me
Only if they're also white, heterosexual, neurotypical, able-bodied and cisgendered.
>able-bodied
how can you be a fighter and not be able-bodied
>he doesn't know about combat wheelchairs
that was a wild ride
So a functional person?
An ideal form, wish you checked any of these boxes though. Better luck next time Pablo 🙂
There's always a compulsion for me to make characters young, especially if the campaign is starting at 1. It just feels sad to go
>This is Fighter. He's 54 years old, gruff, and has been a man at arms since he was old enough to hold a stick. He's level 1
>he's level one because he's been retired for 20 years and got rusty
>now leveling up makes sense because it's not spontaneously learning new shit, just remembering what he used to do
I did it this way, the theme was "one last run" and "i'm too old for this shit"
>and has been a man at arms since he was old enough to hold a stick. He's level 1
So don't make his backstory that of a lifelong man at arms. Just a common civilian picking up a weapon for any reason, like a clerk getting fed up with his mundane life and wanting to adventure.
Or a bloke in debt steals some gear to pawn off but then gets mistaken for a thug for hire and after an easy gig decides to make his living as a sellsword (pay for a few lessons from some veterans at the local pub to have some foundation and off you go, get involved in your first adventure. More excitement than you expected but it gets you hooked, and now you have some new mates too.)
I have made a character who was a veteran paladin who used to be a local hero but lost his faith in good over the decades, and at the time of starting the game he was just going through the motions and on the verge of falling.
İn ad&d, PCs start at 15+1d4 years old. İn wfrp, it's 15+1d10 iirc. İ use this every campaign İ run. İt's wholesome watching teenage PCs learn to adventure, fall in love, raise families and have lifelong friendships. İt also really makes them wanna be good and heroic
I also enjoy playing young characters
Depends on his dick size.
And the genre of anime we are in
Grizzled and ugly human male fighters are at least 30% more kino
This is true. But would they be more accepted by society than a handsome young man?
Yes, because 100% of the human armed forces will consist of them. You know, like in real life
