VR is dirt cheap now, it's just a failed gimmick .

Why does nobody ever say that flight simulators are a failed gimmick?
          Or Racing wheels?
          Or rhythm games?
Why is it only VR games which are considered a "gimmick" because they are niche?

            I don't entirely blame them.
Over-hyping things can do incredible damage to its reputation for a long time.
Blame Zuckerturd and influencer parasites for pretending everything was in place for everyone, casual or enthusiast, to get into this and find their purchase easily worthwhile right away.

It's pretty good but I disagree with the idea of it being the killer app for VR, I personally found Boneworks to be better.
But if you already have everything you may as well try it.

It's the best pure vr game currently. Even has some cool community mods worth checking out

Yeah, I played it on a worse gpu than that. As says it is the best VR game in existence and has tons of custom maps and mods.

in a general sense, yeah, like for most people this its the most enjoyable overall
but many people will enjoy other games far more

I cannot possible imagine how anyone could play that game without instantly crashing into a tree.
Unless it's like autopilot steering where the game sucks you back into the road?

No magnets, you just do it. After narrowly dodging a crash, the feeling of almost turning into a pancake is fun.

you learn the car and the track. its easy
when you drive a car well it feels like its driving itself. its effortless.
downshifting before entering a turn lets the steering wheel loosen up and increases grip of the car because the tires are ready to decelerate if needed instead of wanting to keep moving and causing front slip and understeer. then you can hit the gas through the turn, maybe drift a little, pull the handbrake to drift more if you want. its really fricking easy. feels like you are weightless and flying

You don't need to learn the track in Rally

the callouts arent always what you expect, sometimes the turn is sharper than the fricking number the guy tells me i swear, and sometimes its difficult to picture everything he says before its too late

if you want to get the best lap time and really push the car to its limit you want to know the track

Should be fine with link cable and cranking the video bitrate to high levels like 300mbps @ h264
Though personally I found alyx bland, it's still a good experience if you're a casual vr gayget. If you've already got your VR legs, then play HL2VR mod. It has much more gameplay mechanics to offer than alyx.

It also doesn't feel like Half-Life: Alyx, which is the main problem.
There is one undeniable commonality between "First Person" and "VR First Person", and it is that they share a very similar camera position.
Aside from that, they are designed so differently that a proper game in either camp just doesn't translate to the other with a simple port job, amateur or pro.

    It's not even debatable.
It's so far above the competition in sheer production quality and tasteful design, that it's like a looking glass to an optimistic 5+ years into the future, if developers with serious talent and budgets got into this market.
Kind of a double-edged sword in that sense. It is bafflingly well made, but you may not see anything else like that for a while.

Can someone tell me about smooth-locomotion vs teleportation? All these kiddos on steam forums are telling me that teleportation is for babies and last-gen, yet, when I play FPS loco I feel sick immediately

      Anonymous

teleportation is the best if you are prone to motion sickness. fps loco feels like Im constantly falling, but i get used to it after a while. It like my brain is sending signals to the rest of my body that I am walking a tight rope 10 stories up. Again, you get used to it after about 5 minutes, but those 5 minutes are jarring.

Teleportation is for VR newbs that haven't gotten their VR legs yet/ get motion sickness after a while you start to get used to it and then smooth locomotion is a lot more natural.

Try out the game Shattered Lights, anon
It's a no teleport no movement game where you need a 3 x 3 meter play area to play
It is pretty revolutionary locomotion wise and it is 100% free

well yeah of course you're gonna get sick
for me personally I powered through it and took short 20min breaks whenever it go unbearable
I really wanted to play HL2VR to the end after I got my quest 2. Turns out it took me 3 days total to get around the "sea sickness". Not sure how many hours exactly but you can bet your ass I had my headset on almost the entire weekend.
So yeah, you'll get used to it.

To what degree? Because for me I had this weight at the bottom of my stomach and it didn't go away for a long time but it didn't really stop me from playing.
I'm talking sick where your head is spinning and you can't take it anymore and you need to sit down and remove the headset.

I played it on a pretty solid 80 FPS with a 1070 a while back, 3060 should be more than enough.
Don't max out the resolution in the oculus settings though, the "native" Quest 2 resolution is 5408 x 2736, which is even too much for my 3080TI in a lot of games.

huh, does the quest suck that much? i used the valve index with a 1660 super and it ran fine

it's pretty much the only VR 'must play' i would say exists right now, but i would only recommend it to people who already have a VR setup because buying VR for one game is moronic, much like consoles
