If you like the French press style, try v60 for a lighter flavour or aeropress for a slightly lower backend extraction. Especially fruity flavours get a very pleasant boost from those.

      Anonymous

I aeropress mine. What's your comparison with using a v60 if you have both? I use darker roasts.

        Anonymous

V60 works wonders for an afternoon coffee. While I enjoy it most with a classic Ethiopian flavour profile, the effect is best seen with the more "muddy" origins of South America, or the mildly overroasted styles of Congo or Kenya (not the old style harrar type but the newer Kenyan import beans).
It has an excellent light extraction, so fat and sweet flavours become a lot more dominant, while the toasting tones get more discrete. If you gave complicated dark roasts where the roast hides the chocolate or caramel it can be quite nice, though primarily it helps lift up flavours such as fruit, berry, or flower. I would not recommend it for roasts focused on smokey or burnt flavours.

What does a drip machine even do? I am espresso-anon.
Dripper itself is very simple so what does the machine do?

It just heats water and drips it into a filter that's filled with coffee grounds that sits over the carafe (the thing the coffee goes into; also known as a coffee pot).

I mean anon we're talking about like a simple Mr. Coffee machine or some other benign shit. It's dead simple to use and make large quantities of coffee. If you want really good coffee look into pour over, espresso, and french press preperation methods. But like 90% of coffee drinkers I know just make it in a coffee machine.

Oh, you know anon, that's a fair point. I like learning about coffee across the world and apparently the drip machines we use in America are not as common. They make okay-decent-ish coffee in large quanitities in my opinion. I guess your country probably prefers espresso or maybe a moka pot?

Moka pots are also pretty simple anon, if you want to learn you could look it up. I used to drink moka pot coffee a lot and it makes way better coffee than drip machines; they just require more effort. Drip machines are simple. All you do is flip a switch and walk away

Go to a grocery store and get a plastic filter holder and a pack of Mellita filters. You can grind your own beans or just buy preground coffee, put 1.5 scoops per cup of water into the filter, boil water in a kettle and pour it over the grounds, trying to break up any dry spots - if you need multiple pours just make sure to reboil the water each time.

When I was in Japan I was in Shizuoka for one of the rugby WC games and the next weekend they were having some town festival so my buddy and I visited it. There was a small market and everyone wanted to give the only two gaijins free samples and this man was selling tea right.

I tasted his green tea, black tea, brown tea and what the frick else, he had it all. He wanted to know which one was best of course and he really wanted me to like the black tea which was some of the worst I can remember tasting. I would drink earl gray over that. I said it was not good, he laughed and showed me a newspaper clipping and a framed diploma- that blend was his personal one and had won that year's provincial tea competition or something. My japanese is very spotty and his English was terrible.

He gave me one packet for free, I bought five more packets and gave them away when I got back home. I still have a handful packets of his green tea though, it was great. I'm saving one forever as a souvenir.

Coffee isn't fuel by any definition, its more of a temporary boost about 10 minutes or so with an immediate crash afterward that can last 30 minutes erasing any gains you have made. Energy drinks are worst, sure the boost lasts longer but the crash is twice as bad

What's the point of grounding coffee and coffee dripping machine? I just mix nescafé with water and milk and call it a day

i got an aeropress a few months ago and making coffee in it has turned into one of my favorite parts of the day
shit sucks because i'd love to drink more than 2 cups a day without having an early heart attack or something. flavors are absolutely incredible and that's without even doing any of the really autistic barista shit

I got one too, it adds a nice little ritual to making the coffee doesn't it?

had been using a french press so the ritual wasn't new but pistons always make things more fun. know i sound like a frickin shill but shooting out the puck of grounds is just satisfying too

I like my aeropress but by the time I finally managed to come up with a method of getting a consistent cup I realized that the best I ever got out of it was mediocre compared to a pourover or french press with more work for less coffee.
With a french press I grind up X amount of beans, pour some boiling water in, then let it sit for 6-10 minutes and I get a strong, consistent cup. With the aeropress I need to use a timer every time so it doesn't over or under extract because the timreframe is so small.

never had pourover but if it's a body and fullness issue have you ever tried an inverted brew or one of the drip recipes where you pour the water on your grounds 2-3 times? just curious because i don't have a lot of good other frames of reference when it comes to what counts for 'good' coffee
but yeah i can imagine micromanaging the timer being pretty ass if youre not already wearing a watch or something

I haven't tried the inverted way, I might check it out but body is typically the sticking point of a good cup to me. Sometimes I purposefully let my chemex over extract at the end of the brew to reintroduce some of the bitterness to the basin of coffee without it being overbearing because it gets diluted. I don't mind a light coffee but sometimes my aeropress comes out too light and it loses all subtlety and just comes out tasting like "coffee".

give it a shot sometime if you ever feeling like fricking around with it, inverted is simpler imo and the recipe that comes with the aeropress is pretty watery and tea-like. there was some autistic recipe youtube shat out for me that seems to have vanished completely which also gave more body for mediums-darks. the recipe was something like 13-16 g of grounds into the press, 60g hot water into the mug, 50g into the press, wait 5s, 50g into the press again, bloom ~1:15, stir 15 times, 60g into the press again, press slow. it sounds moronic but it werks on my machine

Coffee is only good if you have the time to grind and actually brew every cup
    I don't
I drink normal to shitty coffee and energy drinks when I actually want to stay awake for a long time.
And coffee makes me want to piss and shit, energy drinks only piss.

I have a simple coffee brewer at home and I often put a pinch (more of a light dusting to be honest) of cinnamon and cocoa powder in the coffee grounds before I start the machine.

You can use both or either and it tastes fricking fantastic. You will have to experiment and find out how much of either you need to get the perfect taste but I guarantee that you won't regret trying it. It is obviously going to depend on your water and what grounds you use but give it a try.

Jumping in here to say its really weird coming to the US and seeing just about everywhere from upmarket restaurants to hotel rooms using drip coffee machines. In Australia you simply cannot find cafes or restaurants without seeing a giant professional espresso machine unless you're in bumfrick nowhere.

Guess I should clarify that my machine is one like

It just heats water and drips it into a filter that's filled with coffee grounds that sits over the carafe (the thing the coffee goes into; also known as a coffee pot).

I mean anon we're talking about like a simple Mr. Coffee machine or some other benign shit. It's dead simple to use and make large quantities of coffee. If you want really good coffee look into pour over, espresso, and french press preperation methods. But like 90% of coffee drinkers I know just make it in a coffee machine.

. It didn't even cross my mind that there are other kinds. You have those huge machines in places that churn out liquid tons of coffee each day but even cafés and restaurants use larger drip machines. At work we have two that can brew 2 liters and they simply get refilled a couple of times a day.

Would baking cocoa work for this?

        Anonymous

Yeah, it's what I use. I've got 100% cocoa powder for baking, I've not tried with anything else. If you are only making a single cup or two you use very little. If you use too much it's not going to taste very good so start on the low end.

Sry for late reply but how many teaspoons would you use for like a smaller batch of like 4 cups of coffee?

            Anonymous

Not teaspoons, a pinch or less than a pinch. Just put your fingers down there, pinch and release, then dust off what's left on your fingers on top of the coffee grounds. Like I said just a light dusting.
